Russ, ArcREST/disable_sync_service.py at master · Esri/ArcREST · GitHub don't appear to be working any more, but your solution does. Did the July 2015 AGOL update invalidate ArcREST/samples at master · Esri/ArcREST · GitHub ?

There are no tools, python or other, that include this functionality. Are you saying that the functionality exists, is possible to access, but not documented? ArcGIS Ideas doesn't seem like an effective way to communicate customer enhancement requests to ESRI: the ratio of ideas implemented, versus ideas requested, is miserably low, wouldn't you agree?

And just to point out, the very simple report you get from the organization statistics page is NOT what I'm looking for. All that give you is a simple graph, the same thing as the Usage button in the item details. We are looking to access the raw usage data for manipulation in Excel. I can do this with ArcGIS Server, why not with AGOL?

See Witch Magic, Snake Oil Medicine, and Spatial Index Tuning . If you're using the default spatial index that comes with making a new FC via arc catalog, that is most certainly the main cause of your bottle neck. This is assuming that you're using the version of GIS that defaults to the Geometry storage type.

Hacking ArcSDE describes some of the cool things you can to with georgraphy, and the little to no modification required to do the same things in geometry. The MSDN documentation on the Geometry and Geography functions is pretty basic, if you're willing to roll up your sleeves on SQL coding you can do some pretty advanced spatial logic, all outside of the SDE stack but transparent to users.

With "Metadata" enabled in AGOL and more than 250 characters in ArcGIS Metadata, publishing fails. Steps to reproduce: Create some ArcGIS metadata on a feature class with lots of ridiculous "tags" or "keywords" like so: Add the FC to a map, and publish to an AGOL Organization where the "Metadata" tool has been enabled. Publishing fails, as it should, as there are more than 250 characters in the "TAGS" AGOL element. This also occurs when over writing an existing hosted FS, but with an extra it will allow you to finish publishing but then your SD FS Item Definition is corrupt. No obvious warning is given. Work-around: Don't have more than 250 characters in your FGDC or AGOL metedata element within your desktop version of the feature class metadata. For organizations that emphasize FGDC metadata with lots of keywords, this might require some re-tooling of your metadata strategy. For example, if you're used to using a lot of metadata thesarus's, such as place name themes, particularly those that are sourced from the USGS Topographic Map Names Data Base or U.S. Department of Commerce, 1995, Countries, dependencies, areas of special sovereignty, and their principal administrative divisions, Federal Information Processing Standard 10-4,): Washington, D.C., National Institute of Standards and Technology, you're probably going to hit the 250 character limit. The new metadata tool in AGOL is great Bling!, but just beware that you might have to revisit some of your desktop metadata automation workflows.

And just to show I'm not "The Whiner", Kudos to the new Metadata Tool! Just turned it on, and any plans I had for the rest of the week are now re-arranged to upload XML metdata into AGOL! Way Cool AGOL Team!

"Some changes are not allowed - e.g. updating the lastEditDate, field type (these were never supported even earlier)" is incorrect, even after the update, double-quoting the editdatefield was and is required for the json edit to post, which is why I'm dubious that editing other field attributes and turning off sync "was never supported", as I'm pretty positive I was able to perform those two tasks before the update.

That answer assumes that replica's exist. Assuming the replicas have been synced or removed, why can't you disable sync? There are many scenarios where I want to disable sync: I'm making changes to some other app or consumption of the data, or changing the SD, perhaps reposting the data with a new field. I want to turn sync off so some rogue user isn't creating a replica while I'm updating that service. I just recently went through an exercise where I had to query for, and de-register, many replicas on many hosted FS's, and it was a huge PITA. And I'm pretty sure I've been able to disable sync in the past after removing all of the replicas. For example, I can't delete and re-upload a SD if there are replica's out there. Makes sense, as the owner of my own data, I should be able to disable syncing.

By double-quoting the editdata, I am able to change field alias', but not nullability. From http://blogs.esri.com/esri/arcgis/files/2014/10/How-to-Update-Hosted-Feature-Service-Schemas1.pdf , the chapter Field Properties, it appears that changing the null value is possible, and WAS possible yesterday, not today after the update...

That's incorrect: Per Updating Hosted Feature Services in ArcGIS Online | ArcGIS Blog and ESRI tech support, double-quoting the last edit date is required for the json edit to post. Not doing so results in the following error: { "error" : { "code" : 400, "message" : "Unable to update feature service layer definition.", "details" : [ "Invalid definition for 'LastEditDate'." ] } }

I just noticed this as well, and it's breaking an application. As recently as yesterday I was able to uncheck this. Attempts to edit this via the admin URL are also unsuccessful. Didn't see disabling this as part of the new release posted last night. What’s New in ArcGIS Online (July 2015) | ArcGIS Blog

And not all of the changes were good ones. Seems like administrative editing of a service via the REST admin URL has been disabled, didn't see that listed in the new changes? How to reproduce: Go to https://services1.arcgis.com/some org code/ArcGIS/rest/admin/services/YOUR_SERVICE/FeatureServer/0/updateDefinition?token=SOME TOKEN Double-quote the edit date Change something about the schema: ...and then observe how nothing was changed:

From an AGOL hosted feature service, there is the very neat "Usage" tool. How does one access this programatically, e.g via python or the REST API? This is some very useful data, but having to visit a large number of service definition pages, individually, is not very effective. We'd like to be able to query and report of service useage statistics for all hosted feature services within the organization. We do NOT consider "Number of Times Viewed" a very reliable counter, as that is not capturing hits to the service that are originating from other apps, such as web map or geojson query.
