What exactly are you trying to do? Are you trying to register your application on ArcGIS Marketplace? You only need to register your application if you want to list it in the Marketplace. Otherwise, just ignore it. Access to your application is managed by how you share it (everyone, with your organization, or with specific groups). If you are trying to create an application, for example, to sell it on the ArcGIS platform through the Marketplace, then you need to know about the specifics of registering it, and a redirect URI is needed. Have you ever visited a website that allows you to login with your facebook account, for example, to add a comment? When you sign in with your facebook username, you are granting the application (web, mobile) access to your facebook information. So instead of creating a specific sign in for the application, you can use your facebook information. The same workflow exists for applications you create and want to list on the Marketplace. For example, say you've written an application that displays web maps (like the Esri mobile apps). In order for your application to display a user's web map, that user would need to sign in to the ArcGIS Online platform. By signing in, the user is granting your application access to his information, in this case his web maps. Then your application can display them. The redirect URI is kind of the channel through which ArcGIS Online passes information back to your application and grants access to the user's information. For example, your application needs to know if the user was able to successfully sign in to ArcGIS Online. And if they successfully do so, ArcGIS Online gives your app a token, or a key to unlock the user's information. Your app uses this token, for example, to access the user's web maps. Sounds like those layers reference services. Are they hosted on ArcGIS Online or on your own ArcGIS Server? The basic problem is that the server is not responding in a timely manner and the application times out. Thanks, Mike ... View more

Lars, Are seeing the error message you reference? What kind of custom symbols do you have? Here's a topic that describes what types of symbols are supported in feature services: http://resources.arcgis.com/en/help/main/10.2/index.html#/Authoring_feature_services/0154000003nt000000/ Most symbol types can be used with a feature service; however, in some cases, the symbols may be downgraded. For line layers, simple line symbols are supported. If other symbols are used, the feature service converts them to a simple line symbol that best represents the original symbol. For example, a cartographic line symbol in the map document may be drawn as a simple solid line in a feature service client. If a line symbol is complex or has multiple layers, the feature service downgrades the line to best represent the original line symbol. For polygon layers, simple fill and picture fill symbols are supported. If other symbols are used, the feature service downgrades them to simple fill symbols. For multilayer fill symbols, the feature service only considers the top layer. Also, a fill symbol's outline symbol has the same level of support as described for line layers above. For point layers, simple marker and picture marker symbols are supported. If other symbols are used, the feature service downgrades them to picture marker symbols. Multilayer marker symbols are also downgraded to picture marker symbols where the layers are merged into a single layer. What version of ArcGIS Server? Later versions automatically enable CORS, but I think 10.0 doesn't What version of Internet Explorer? It must support CORS Editing of public feature services is supported with ArcGIS Server 10. Editing of secured public feature services is supported withArcGIS Server 10 SP1. Here's information on credits as of today. On the anniversary of your subscription, you will receive your annual allotment of credits. Unused credits are not retained. Any purchased credits expire 2 years from date of purchase so long as subscription is active. You are correct. For some reason, I was looking at the TOPO basemap... No, you can't add the oceans basemap to arcmap then add your data over it and publish it out. Basemap layers can't be published as part of services.  The only way to do this would be to write code using the API. Web maps do support multi-layer basemaps, as described here: http://resources.arcgis.com/en/help/arcgis-rest-api/#/baseMap/02r30000003w000000/ I'm no programmer, but you could author a web map that used the oceans basemap, then programmatically modify the basemap section to include a reference to your service. What you see in the oceans basemap is part of it and can't be separated out. It's a tiled service, meaning the basemap is a collection of precreated tiled images, like this one. http://services.arcgisonline.com/ArcGIS/rest/services/World_Topo_Map/MapServer/tile/12/1742/1135?blankTile=false Everything you see is part of the tiled image. While you could add your data over the tiled data to create a basemap, there is no way to create basemaps with more than one layer from the user interface of ArcGIS Online.
