Currently, you can't upload data and add it to the web map. The only layers that can be added are services running on ArcGIS Server. If you have a limited set of points that you could enter manually over the map, you can do so. From the map: 1. Click Add 2. Click Create Editable layer. 3. You can now add points. We are working on allowing you to display different data types, such as shapefiles and CSV files over the map. Pricing has yet to be determined. Thanks, Mike

Just FYI... We pass this feedback on to our data providers and wait for them to incorporate the change. Once the data provider makes the change it is usually 6 months to a year before it works its way into our online maps. Thanks, Mike

The Find option in the map viewer filters its results to only show you items that can be added as a layer to the map (services). The general search of ArcGIS.com shows you all items. Hope this helps, Mike

Everything you upload can be shared. Many people share files that are downloaded and viewed with another client (like ArcMap). But only map services running on ArcGIS Server can be displayed over the ArcGIS.com map viewer. We are working on enhancing our system to allow you to upload and display your data over the map. Behind the scenes, we'd be creating a service out of your data. This will be a premium feature. Thanks, Mike

The option to display a single field attribute does not display the field name. It is meant for text that stands alone, like a description. To do what you want, you can choose the option to display a list of field attributes, but then only select on field attribute value to display. Click the button named "Configure attributes" to choose which attributes you want to display. Thanks, Mike

This is probably the issue... Your GIS Server doesn't seem to be publicly available. I am unable to view the services in your map. The reason it works for you is because you are working inside your company's firewall, and thus, you have access to the server. That's why it works from a web browser when viewing the map. When you attempt to view the map from the phone, the phone has the same problem I do that over the cell network, your internal GIS server is not available. Hope this helps, Mike

I am able to configure popups on your map. What browser and version are you using? You are accessing the context menu on the Results sub-layer inside the service, right? You say the options are missing from the menu, so you might be clicking on the wrong layer. You have to click the sub-layer inside the service. Thanks, Mike

Can you share the URL to the service you're having problems with? Just to be clear, you can view the service fine when looking at the map in ArcGIS.com map viewer, but not when you view the map on the iPhone App? Or are you trying to look at it on the phone through the safari browser on the phone? Thanks, Mike

Ted, We fixed our back end server to provide a new option to upload asynchronously. This option is utilized when uploading from ArcGIS.com. However, as I recall from your previous post on this issue, you were uploading from ArcGIS Desktop. Are you using the GP tool? Or writing your own scripts? Previously, you said you were using the arcpy.SharePackage method. Unfortunately, I know nothing about python... I'm guessing this method may need to change? Please tell me what you're doing... Thanks, Mike

The workaround is what I described in the earlier post. Essentially, he needed to use the world topo basemap that has a higher level of detail. Thanks, Mike

I don't know. You might check out the samples in the API references. One site that I do know about is an application called Boston Solar. This app lets you click on a building to determine solar potential. I assume that behind the scenes, it must be doing some calculations. It's build with the ArcGIS API for Flex... http://gis.cityofboston.gov/solarboston/ hope this helps, Mike

Here's what you can do without doing any programming... When looking at the map in ArcGIS.com, click Share on the menu bar. This allows you to do two things that may work. One, you can choose to embed the map in your own web page. However, there is no ability to turn layers on or off when embedded in this fashion. Two, you can make a web application that you deploy to your own web site. There are several templates to choose from, some that let you turn on/off layers. Here's what you can do with some programming. You can modify the template you downloaded in option 2 above, and edit the application (all files are included) to do exactly what you want. The templates are build (primarily) with the ArcGIS API for JavaScript. We also have ArcGIS API for Flex and the ArcGIS API for Silverlight. All of the APIs (I believe) can read in a map you create in ArcGIS.com. You then can write your application from scratch, but leverage the map authoring abilities in ArcGIS.com Hope this helps, Mike

Just open your web map in ArcGIS Explorer Online to add text over the map (Explorer Online currently supports this, but no the map viewer in ArcGIS.com; we're working on it.) I don't know about whether you can add text over the image with photoshop; hopefully Sarah will reply. Thanks, Mike
