I'm not sure what's happening. I can display the layer in Firefox version 5. The fact that you can also view the layer in IE makes me think there may be some configuration issue with Firefox on your computer. Can you use Firefox from another computer to access the layer? Do you have any proxy setting that could be hindering things? Mike

No there is no exporting of data from the map. If your gps device can output a GPX file you can import this file directly as a layer on the map from the Add menu. Mike

I took a quick look at your site and it seems to me that you could probably do some of your maps for now and embed them in your website without having a subscription. So instead of PDF versions, they could be live versions, with popups that display attributes. ArcGIS Online supports adding small (less than 1000 features) shapefiles, CSVs and GPX files to the map. Then you can easily embed it. Check out this map I put on a blog. http://mikesarcgismaps.blogspot.com/2011/07/washington-map.html So you could embed maps right now in your website. Mike

Sorry, there is no way that I can think of to convert the lines to a different type. How did you get the data? Did you manually enter the trails? If they're from a GPS device, you can import the data (GPX file). Mike

So here's the technical reason... Map notes layers are symbolized based on feature templates. So if you add a feature as a type "Line" and provide a title and description, it's still a line and thus gets shown in the legend as a line, even though you may have overridden the symbology for a particular line. So what you need to do is create your own feature templates based on your features. In Explorer Online, when you go to change the symbol of the line, you'll see a button called "Create Feature Template" that will allow you to define your own feature types. These will then appear in the legend and you can remove the other feature templates, like the basic line. Admittedly, this workflow is not the best. Instead of doing the above, you might consider importing your features from other data sources. For the number of features you have, you might be better served by importing a shapefile, CSV file or GPX file. Then you can symbolize according to type. Hope this helps, Mike

Can you add your zip file as an attachment to a reply. It can't be more that 2MB as an attachment here. However, that should be fine, as ArcGIS Online only supports zipped up shapefiles of around 1MB. Thanks, Mike

The ArcGIS Online services will be accessible from the JavaScript, Flex and Silverlight APIs. Initially, only tiled map services and feature services will be available. Also, some functionally will not be initially available against these services. What will your application do? What functionality do you plan to support? Thanks, Mike

A zipped shapefile of roughly 1MB is about as large as you can go. Another way to think about this is that you can add roughly 1000 features. If you are adding a polygon shapefile, you may consider generalizing it if you have a lot of vertices. Thanks, Mike

The size limit of a shapefile is roughly 1MB zipped. This help topic contains additional information. http://help.arcgis.com/en/arcgisonline/help/index.html#/Adding_features_from_a_file/010q00000060000000/ Basically, you're limited to 1000 features or so. These features are being drawn by the client (browser) so if you have more the browser really can't handle it. Mike

Do you mean an editable layer within your map? Or are you accessing an ArcGIS Server Feature Service? If it's the former, the answer is no, regardless of whether you're signed in or not. While they can add a feature to the map, they won't be able to save the map because it's your map. The can save their own copy of it with their edit, but that's not what you're looking for. Thanks, Mike

GIF Images are not supported by Microsoft Silverlight, which ArcGIS Explorer Online is built with. I'd suggest using a different image format like png. I'm not sure why you're not seeing the REST images in Explorer Online and the iOS. Here's a URL that I'm using that works. The format I'm using is PNG and I assume you're using the &f=image option...I can't tell from your attachment. http://services.arcgisonline.com/ArcGIS/rest/services/Specialty/World_Navigation_Charts/MapServer/export?bbox=-25183752.0516242%2C-25183752.0516242%2C25183752.0516242%2C25183752.0516242&bboxSR=&layers=&layerdefs=&size=&imageSR=&format=png&transparent=false&dpi=&time=&layerTimeOptions=&f=image If your server is behind a firewall, that could be a problem. You might need a client access policy file for Explorer Online, but I'm not sure. http://help.arcgis.com/en/arcgisexplorer/help/index.html#//01560000004p000000.htm Hope this helps, Mike

The time frame is to release in conjunction with ArcGIS 10.1, which is scheduled for Q1 2012. As far as pricing, that's not finalized. However, considering you can get 2GB worth of storage for free now, I don't think you'll have any issue with disk storage space. Hope this helps, Mike

As far as uploading shapefiles, the size is limited by what the browser can display. Generally, less than 750 features. This is, however, impacted by the number of vertices your lines/polygons contain. You can consider generalizing your data before uploading it. The planned time frame for release is in conjunction with ArcGIS 10.1, so first quarter 2012. That is our target. Unfortunately, pricing has not been finalized. I'd suggest contact your distributor for more information. Thanks, Mike
