ArcGIS.com doesn't support adding layers with a query expression. The map in ArcGIS.com also doesn't currently support defining a query on a layer. However, our Silverlight based application, ArcGIS Explorer Online, will allow you to define such a query (called a filter) and apply it to a layer in the web map. Subsequently, the ArcGIS.com map viewer will respect this layer filter when opening the web map. When I've seen problems like this in the past, it's typically a proxy issue. Here's some info from a recent exchange one of our developers had with another person having similar problems... I think this is a proxy issue. The proxy would need to be on the applications web server.  The proxy url is set in index.html, look for the proxyurl option.  The proxy isn't always used - but there are some situations when its needed. Another issue you might run into is that the identity manager expects the app to be running using https since you are working with secure items. If its not run over https then you might see the log-in dialog appear but it won't successfully log you in. If you are working with only public web maps and services then the templates should work - its only going to be an issue when you are working with non-public maps. Unfortunately, the website will not be updated in the near term, so this problem will persist. This isn't as clear-cut a problem as I originally thought. I was having problems with my account. Popup configurations were pretty much working for me when I use another account I have. Is your service public? Can you post the URL here? Maybe it's something specific to your service. As I mentioned before, are you sure you saved the popup configuration (clicking the button at the bottom of the panel once you make changes)? The menu button to save back to the service item will be grayed out if you didn't. It's possible that the popup properties are getting saved to the service, but they're getting overridden by the current web map that contains it. You don't actually need to save a web map to author the popup properties for a service. Find the service in My Content and open it. You can then modify the popup properties and save them back to the item, then just discard the web map. Here's what I suggest. Directly open the service in a new map and see what how the popup properties are configured. This will rule out the possibility that your existing web map is overriding what's set on the service. If they look correct, then all is good. If not, you can correct it and save the changes back to the service item. You can then go to your existing web map and remove the layer pointing to the service and add it back again. Basically, your web map is too big for IE to handle. Your web map is 8MB in size.  Shapefiles, CSVs and GPX files added to the map are all drawn by the browser. You are running into limitations of the IE browser's ability to draw features. IE 7 and 8 are not able to handle the number of features in this map. The only solution is to generalize the data even more than ArcGIS Online can do. If you have ArcGIS Desktop, you can generalize your data more so that it can be viewed. Another solution is to host the data on ArcGIS Server. Here's a help topic that addresses this as well. http://help.arcgis.com/en/arcgisonline/help/#/About_adding_data_layers/010q0000009v000000/ The important section on web map size is this: Large amounts of data in a layer or the map may affect the performance of the map. For example, you may lose the map you are working on if you navigate away from the map viewer when the web map is too big for your browser to cache (generally, bigger than 2.5 MB, except with IE7 [64 KB] and IE8 [530 KB]). This looks like the internal URL to your server, which you can't see outside of your organization. You need to find out if your server is externally accessible. Typically the URL would have your domain in it, like this: "http://services.arcgisonline.com/ArcGIS/rest/services/ESRI_Imagery_World_2D/MapServer" ArcGIS Online won't be able to see any internal servers. Your map and feature services can access SDE data from ArcGIS Server. Essentially, ArcGIS Server sits between your web server and your database server. Can you provide the REST endpoint of your map service? I'm guessing that it's not publicly accessible and thus, ArcGIS Online can't see it. A simple test would be to take the URL and see if you can see it outside your organization, for example from home when not connected to your organization. Thanks, Mike ... View more
