No, you can't really do that at this point. In the future, we do plan to allow setting scale visibility on all layers, except the basemap. So it would be possible to emulate this, where the second basemap effectively covers up the first basemap. Mike

After doing some more testing, this appears to be a problem specifically with Explorer Online. Is that your experience? I have found that I seem to always be able to edit the popup configuration in the ArcGIS.com map viewer. However, If I edit in Explorer Online, the changes I make to my popup don't seem to get saved to the service, nor can I save the web map. I am, however, able to edit the web map in the ArcGIS.com map viewer and save the properties back to the service without problem. Previously, you mentioned the Save Item Properties was grayed out. It will be grayed out if there is nothing to save. Are you sure you clicked the Save Popup button when you were configuring your popup? Thanks, Mike

I believe I can reproduce your problem. It appears that configuring the popup from Explorer Online somehow corrupts the web map. We'll need to investigate more. In the mean time, I have found no issue with simply editing the popup within the arcgis.com map viewer. You may need to create a new web map, as I suspect it's the web map that is corrupt somehow... Thanks, Mike

ArcGIS Online is not an option for hosting your images. You will need to use some other photograph storing site. Essentially, you need a URL to your image that you'll reference in a field of your shapefile. This will allow you to display the image in a popup window when you click on a feature on the map (I assume this is your goal). Check out this post for some tips on configuring the popup window to display your image. http://forums.arcgis.com/threads/52504-Configure-pop-up-for-individual-features?p=179544&viewfull=1#post179544 Thanks, Mike

After a quick search, here are some datasets I found... These are "layer packages" which can be downloaded and opened in ArcGIS Desktop. You could then export them to shapefiles to overlay on the map in arcgis online. http://www.arcgis.com/home/item.html?id=3864c63872d84aec91933618e3815dd2 http://www.arcgis.com/home/item.html?id=d86e32ea12a64727b9e94d6f820123a2 There may be other datasets available too. I simply searched for "world countries" Hope this helps, Mike

Brian, I'm not sure what's going on. I can save the popup on my map back to a service without problem. In Chrome, can you open the developer tools? Get to the point where you want to save the popup properties back to the service item. Then click the Wrench>Tools>Developer Tools in Chrome. Then go ahead and attempt to save the properties. In the developer tools window, lower left corner, you might see a red circle with an X in it. Double click this to see the errors. Then tell me what you see. Thanks, Mike

All data is currently hosted in the US. We have heard some people ask for hosting within specific countries for similar reasons but there are no plans to do this at this time. Perhaps ArcGIS Server or ArcGIS Portal may be options for you. Thanks, Mike

Are you using a "free" account or are you using an account associated with the beta version of ArcGIS Online for Organizations? First, I'd suggest clearing your browser cache aggressively, meaning completely clear cookies, temporary files, offline content. Some browsers allow you to specify a time period for clearing. Make sure you specify everything. Thanks, Mike

Matt, Your zip file doesn't contain a shapefile, it contains an ArcMap map document (MXD). That's why it doesn't work. Are you adding shapefiles to your map document as layers? Just zip these files up. A shapefile is actually composed of several files on disk, with extensions like .shp, .prj... Thanks, Mike

You can't currently add "files" as layers from My Content, only services (maybe CSVs, I can't remember). Definitely, you can go to the Add menu on the map and choose add layer from web or add layer from file and browse to the layer you want to add... Hope this helps. Mike

Can you post the embed code of your map here? Embedding should use the current visible extent of the map when you generate the embed code. Thanks Mike

The ArcGIS.com map viewer sends a query to the service to retrieve the attributes of the clicked feature. In your case, I'm seeing this error: "Unable to perform query. Please check your parameters." In searching the forums, this appears to be a bug with ArcGIS Server 9.3.1. The last post in this thread seems to suggest a work around. Another option is to upgrade your server to the latest version. http://forums.arcgis.com/threads/7634-Querying-a-Joined-Table Querying a Joined Table Ran across this thread with the same issue I was having with the Javascript API - appears to be an issue with using MSD files and using joins from a data tables that is in a different locations than the feature class. My .mxd works, but when I tried to use an .msd file I started getting this error. Switched back to using an .mxd. I'm on 9.3.1 still, so this may be resolved with 10. Anyone know? The error is described here: http://support.esri.com/en/bugs/nimbus/TklNMDQ1MjU5 However, if you can reconfigure your service to make popup work, popups don't currently support displaying attributes from related tables. Hope this helps, Mike

I'm not familiar with DNR, but it seems like you are not ending up with a valid shapefile. You might try looking at this post. http://forums.arcgis.com/threads/18078-Coverting-from-KML-to-Shapefile Thanks, Mike
