... since I've already selected "Any" for both types. I am using the Triangulation radio button to take advantage of the constraints in my .lasd file. Is the parenthetical that says ''no caching" throwing me off? Any help in the process is appreciated as this will eventually be published as a service in ImageServer. ... Greg, On our practices with LAS standard 1.1 or higher, those data are usually pre-processed, in particular, noise removal, which is very critical for reliable analysis of LAS data later on. Secondly, separate /different MDs from individual catalog (class) are created, saying, bare DEM MD, buildings?? MD, etc; And eventually, cache, when needed? It seems that works fine in ArcGIS 10.2? ++++++++++ Just like ??effective?? noise removal, if LAS data is not compatible with LAS standard 1.1 or higher, the third-party package may be highly required, such as TerraScan or Leica Cyclone, before MD creation. For LAS standard, pls refer to http://www.asprs.org/Committee-General/LASer-LAS-File-Format-Exchange-Activities.html

... I have been able to clip the images and mosaic them together with no problem. The issue comes when trying to export the dataset to a single image, currently a tiff, so that the other application can use it for clipping. The issue is that the exported image displays as all black but it has RGB values when you use the info tool to click around the image. It also has the issue of not maintain the true extent of the entire state. ... This is done using 10.1. Bern, Pls refer to the discussion first at http://forums.arcgis.com/threads/85826-Exporting-rasters-as-a-batch-in-ArcMap?p=303823&viewfull=1#post303823 Secondly, advisable to use 10.2 onto MD (more stable than 10.1, on the export functions). Also ensure that 'noData' is NON (not 256) and the exported format is in IMG. (TIFF can be produced from IMG.)

I can open the Pleiades raster in XML format in Arc, but it only partially draws the layer. So Arc, sort of recognizes it. I can also open it easily in ENVI, but in none of the formats I save it in does Arc recognize the geospatial data. It seems sort of ridiculous to have to go through the process of defining the spatial reference information when it is in the ancillary XML file (and ENVI recognizes it). ... If ENVI is available to you, it is good idea to directly use it for orthorectificaon. Just make sure that GCP (ground control points) should be collected and combined into the workflow in ENVI 5.0 SP3. (In fact, it should be optional, i.e., with/without GCP). ++++++++ With 10.2, we can drag-drop DIM images into ArcMap without problem (see the attachment). However, ArcGIS 10.2 might have bugs to smoothly load/orthorectify Pleiades DIMAP images into MD (SPOT6 DIMAP/ SPOT 5 DIMAP neither), at least, in most scenarios. I believe, it is challenging to deal with DIMAP images from Astrium in ArcGIS 10.x?

It is good to try the raster function template from the layer's symbology at http://resources.arcgis.com/en/help/main/10.2/index.html#//009t0000024q000000, if the color correction tool/algorithms do not work well. ++++++++++++ Generally, it is challenging ??practically?? to color balance 'massive' historical images in MD with Color Correction tool in ArcGIS 10.x ? If the third-party remote sensing packages like ERDAS ER Mapper are available, it will help effectively pre-process color among multiple images, before adding into MD.

... We've modeled 80 historical buildings using SketchUp 2013 Pro as a part of the graduate level course that I'm teaching. We tried to import them as Collada file into correct location in ArcScene but unfortunately failed and all textures were lost I searched ESRI forums with the hope of finding a simple and straightforward solution to import SketchUp models into ArcScene. Apparently, this issue is not new and same kind of questions have been posted before and different techniques were suggested . I read them all one by one. We're using ArcGIS 10.2 and ScketchUp 2013 Pro. I'm wondering what is the best practice(s) to import SketchUP models. ... Pls try the following steps for ??small size?? of SketchUp files: 1. Export /save as the previous version (like 😎 within SketchUp 2013; and then 2. Use ??KML to Layer?? in ArcGIS 10.1/10.2 to import; or 3. Use CityEngine 2012.1 (if available) to import Both works well for small projects of SKP, which will maintain the textures in multipatch. However, keep in mind that all multipatch after converting should be visualized well in ArcGlobe (not ArcScene, mostly). Secondly, when the file size of SKP or Collarda becomes larger, CityEngine is only solution to this kind of conversion ?

I just got some digitalglobe data that I would like to orthorectify. ... however, the data I received is in DIMAP format so the RPC files are in xml. ... Pls attach the metadata/RPC files (.xml or .txt), and the snapshot of the data folder structure as well. It looks me that your data are SPOT 5 (DIMAP), which should come from ??Astrium??. For more on DIMAP, link to http://www2.astrium-geo.com/files/pmedia/public/r455_9_formatdimap_eng_sept2010.pdf . With DigitalGlobe, data should be referred to QuickBird/ WorldView (RPB) or GeoEye/ IKONOS (RPC) , which was merged into the DigitalGlobe on January 2013. ++++ For ortho rectification on SPOT 5 DIMAP, advisable to try ArcGIS 10.2 and see if it meets your needs. Personally, it is still challenging to 'properly' handle SPOT 5 DIMAP images within ArcGIS 10.x, including 10.2.

Hi, Xander, Obviously, you are more expertise on ESRI products. Very happy to listen to your comments and advices on any practical 3D /analysis questions related to ArcGIS Explorer. Firstly, pls look at the post at http://forums.arcgis.com/threads/91914-any-updates-with-??USGS-Flood-Path-Project??-with-ArcGIS-Explorer . Have any ideas how effectively to simulate flooding in ArcGIS Explore? Secondly, can you share any experiences on the question at http://forums.arcgis.com/threads/91760-3D-surface-area-calculation-from-DEM?p=334951&viewfull=1#post334951 ? Thx in advance LARRY

... Is there anyway that i can create breaklines for these water bodies ? Do I have to individually digitize each of the water bodies ? Is there any other way that i can eliminate the error of water bodies not having heights? ... Sam, Ideas as alternative solutions to get water boundary: If a very-high-resolution raster image with NIR band covering AOI (saying, satellite image like 0.6-m QUICKBIRD/0.5-m GeoEye or 0.25-m airphoto) available to you, it would help automatically ??extract?? boundary of water bodies (lakes, reservoir, etc.), which usually can be done simply via ??Threshholding?? and then conversion into polygons. Besides, on LAS format standard 1.1 or higher, Lidar cloud points can be classified into a number of categories including ??water??. If you don??t see this water catalog in LAS files, you still have a chance to ask LAS data provider to re-classify by their LiDAR package (saying, TerraScan). ++++++++ Note, Extracting the boundary of water /trees from raster image is much easier than other features (buildings, roads, etc). Generally, users need not use advanced classification algorithms like object-oriented feature extraction. ... model subsurface geology using boreholes--though I'm also combining surface outcrops as well (in the form of high-density elevation points overlaid with geology). I've noticed a number of my TINs do not fully "fill out" the soft clip polygons I use for them. They may reach only part of the polygon edge and not the full extent. ... Warren, Just share ideas, not solution. What we are doing with boreholes for TIN creation usually includes ??interpolation?? first, which would help us to model the realistic surface /subsurface (i.e., ??softer and more natural??). In fact, the ??covariance / Kriging?? processes mostly become more important, when dealing with the ??top/bottom?? points of the geological formations /ore bodies along 'sparse' bores. As you mentioned, high-density elevation points (LiDAR cloud points ?) are also available. That would help to evaluate the ??new?? dataset of surface TIN, to check if ??proper?? interpolation used ... If sounds true to your case, pls refer to Geostatistics for the details

... If you look at the Help on "Raster to Polygon (Conversion)" it states that the "raster field" (the field used to assign values from the cells in the input raster to the polygons in the output dataset) can only be integer or string. Your AWS is double and this will not work as you experienced. What I don't know is why one would want to convert the raster data to vector (polygons) if the "Lookup (Spatial Analyst)" tool will give you a raster with the AWS values. The help states that the "Lookup field" (the field containing the desired values for the new raster) can be numeric or string type. It is easy to merge raster together using the "Mosaic To New Raster (Data Management)" tool.... Always learning new, it is really good. Thanks, Xander, You would be right via using the "Mosaic To New Raster (Data Management)" tool, if to merge (many) rasters? It would be also very nice by ??Lookup (Spatial Analyst)??, if the question is ??how to classify raster on the attribute ??AWS?? Regards, +++++++++++ However, the question looks to me: how to ??merge?? the categorical cells in ??single?? raster, which is based on the attribute 'aws0150wta'. In fact, for ??categorical?? raster, there is an effective way to convert to vector, no matter if it is integer or double. On the Help Documentation 'Raster to Polygon', not sure why it give users like that. Maybe, we should be cautious, when reading the Help Documentation ? Pls see the attachments..

Thanks a lot for your reply. I tried it. But it seems not working. Because in the step 1, I click Raste to Polygon, and fill the raster (MuRaster_10m), I found there in no 'aws0150wta' in the 'Field(optional)'. I have added the aws0150wta in attribution. So I am not allowed to export raster with the attribution 'aws0150wta'. Please see attach Tianyi, I see the issue. Pls select the raster (joined with the attribute 'aws0150wta'); export raster directly by Export in ArcMap, which will create a raster with the attribute ??aws0150wta??. Pls refer to http://resources.arcgis.com/en/help/main/10.1/index.html#//009t00000063000000 Again, with categorical vector layer, it would be easy for you to merge. So, advisable to convert into vector and then dissolve on the attribute ??aws0150wta??. Pls communicate via the Private Message, when more needed.

Hallo, I dont know if i am correct under this topic but I try. I have to work with Mike21, a hydrodynamic Flow Modelling Programm. In an Manual is described that i have to convert my ESRI Raster to .dfs2 Mike Format. So i have to use ArcMap and import my .xyz Data and get the ESRI Raster Format. In the internet i found several solutions, but they dont work. I got my data from official Office. The DGM1 is in the .xyz Format. Each of the files are about 121 MB in size. In addition there is one .csv File added. ... Excel dont work because there are to many points ... ! 3Dto feature Class dont work ...mmaybe ive done something wrong. .. ! This tool found in this Forum. Should be the correct one but i dont know why it doesnt work. http://arcscripts.esri.com/details.asp?dbid=12876 How can I import the .xyz Files in ARCMAP? ... DPLGIS, Pls it is best to request ESRI ASCII directly from that official office (very often to offer), and then use the Grd2Mike tool.
* dfs2 file, which can be easily generated from bathymetry data which given in ASCII format (.asc) by using the Grd2Mike tool in the MikeZero Toolbox (MZToolbox > GIS > Grd2Mike)
Or use the GP tools called 'ASCII 3D to Feature Class' and then 'Feature Class Z to ASCII'...
