Thanks Chris! I had been trying that as a work around but I didn't realize that you had to create a new plan for each new traverse.

"Load Traverse from file" crashes ArcMap every time! This is an add-in called Parcel Fabric Utilities and can be found with the Tax Parcel Editing Template for 10. Although I found a report of this issue in the blog: http://blogs.esri.com/dev/blogs/localgovernment/archive/2010/07/28/parcel-editor-add_2d00_in-enhances-parcel-management-in-arcgis-10.aspx I have not been able to find a solution. I have logged the incident with tech support. So far I have recreated the normal.mxt, Esri folder in my user profile, and the registry key. I will post update when I have one.

Got another one here: Go to the Plan Directory and try to "Delete Plan." Nothing happens here that I can tell. Same experience with Delete and Unjoin!?!? Anyone?

I have the same issue where you can't nail down a traverse to a "starting point" and that ArcMap places things arbitrarily based on the current extent. ESRI is supposed to include a fix in the next release.

I'm not exactly sure what you are asking, but I'll see if I can't help you clarify your question. Both ObjectID and GlobalID are unique identifiers; that is, you can have one and only one feature with that number or GUID. Also, in my experience, there is no consistency as to how new numbers are assigned or kept. I haven't noticed anything with regards to length or direction that "predict" a certain value. Hope that helps!

Here I'm creating a new parcel in a new plan. I've included the details for line construction as well as the join details in case I'm missing something. See the "First Glance" sort of looks okay but I notice the 2 new line points. I'm okay with the one to the southeast, but can't figure out why there's another one on the boundary here. So I zoom in. Notice the sliver in "Detailed Look." The team at ESRI said they are currently looking at a fix for the next release where you can reshape some edges to match up with your new survey. At 9.3 we used topology editing tools for this. I started this post because no one seems to share my concern, so I'm just wondering how they manage to edit without said slivers & gaps!

Perhaps. There are many reasons why things fail to draw in ArcMap. I'll name a few and see if anything rings a bell. -if your data is being sent across a network and it has a hiccup or goes down. -if you label from a joined table and the table is missing from the mxd or missing its data source. -if you have a table joined and it is missing its data source. You may try recreating the GDB and featuredataset. Create a blank poly featureclass and import the fields and spatial reference from the shapefile to ensure nothing gets lost from the SHP to the GDB FC. Then use the simple object loader in Catalog to load the data (right-click the FC>load). You'll be able to see the errors if anything fails. Verify that you have same number of features in both the SHP & GDB FC. Then load to topology and make sure you edit it a new mxd. Sometimes it may just be a matter of a corrupt mxd. Are you using 10? Let me know if that helps.

If you open ArcMap and at the top it says "[name of map document] - ArcMap - ArcView" you have an ArcView License. You cannot create or edit GDB topology with this. It must say ArcEditor or ArcInfo in place of ArcView. Also the feature class must be in a feature dataset. IE it can't be stand-alone. One more thing you may want to consider is "Must not have gaps" depending on the continuity of the data. If it is continuous you will only have one gap around the outside boundary of the feature class. That's great if you only have one, but where you find overlaps, you typically find gaps!

Nick, that's a good question! Perhaps we should start another post! Just to name a few, I saw the one about the "breakline" tool not being enabled when it should. I can't replicate it but I've seen it. Another thing that seems to be inconsistent is "Load traverse file" tool from the Parcel Utilities Add-In. It works a few times and then it crashes ArcMap every time and I have to reboot my machine. I would be hard pressed to guess it's the computer. It's brand new and has never had any ArcGIS products installed on it. I've been working on the fabric not long after it's release. We've still got some testing to go before we implement. I'm currently waiting for some service packs or a new release to "stabilize" it. It looks like you've gotten your feet wet a bit. I'm interested in hearing your thoughts. PS I went ahead and created a new post: http://forums.arcgis.com/threads/27224-Inconsistencies-Odd-behavior-in-the-parcel-fabric?p=90255#post90255

Hey all, I am starting this thread as a means to get feedback from other Fabric users. I really only have one machine to commit to testing so it will be beneficial to see if these things occur in other environments with different datasets. I'll start with some behavior I've encountered with the technique that allows you to planarize lines in the Lines Details dialog. Steps are as follows: 1. You COGO a few calls and then the survey description says with a stream so many feet--without any actual calls for the stream. 2. You see the stream on the orthophotography, so you reach for the line string tool. 3. Heads up digitize the stream and overshoot it. 4. Hit the planarize button (still inside the Line details dialog) to "intersect" existing line and ensure closure. 5. And it "flattens" the line so that you basically only have 2 points on that line. 6. Workaround: (WIERD) hit undo and it actually planarizes the line!! 7. Then you can "build." PS I have everything to SP1.

Any ideas on how to manage this or what the best workflow for this would be? I realize you can add the fabric to a topology, but it shouldn't be necessary. I would like hear about what others are doing. Thanks in advance!:D

Nick, Are you getting the same error message as the first post? How did you migrate/load your parcel fabric to SDE? Was there a topology invloved? If so, is there a chance that it was validated on the default after you created the version below? That may cause a lock on all of the parcels. Since your testing, you may try dropping the verison and then recreating it from a "clean" default version.

In response to: "2) I know I can turn labels on and off by layer. What I want to do is configure the annotation layer to display dimensions that are tied to parcels." First, the question is are you referring to annotation or labels?....totally different. Second, sounds like you are referring to labels and in that case you would define different label classes and then use a query to define what is in the class you want to label (ie lots or parcels). Then, you can toggle on and off what you want depending on the definitions in your label class.
