Why are you interested in knowing how attachments are stored as BLOBs? Would you by any chance have files (e.g. images) stored in BLOB fields in a non-GIS database that you would like to access in GIS without having to save these files again in a GIS database in a BLOB field to eliminate data duplication? ... For the .sde file for the database connection, is anyone trying to create this on the fly where a parameter of the connection might be changing such as the instance (e.g. sde:oracle10g:"SID" to sde:oracle11g:"SID")? I am trying to perform this operation at v10.2 and it is taking between 29-35 seconds for the .sde file to be written to disk.  This same operation took a split second at v10.0.  This is a problem because I have over 200,000 sde connections to change in 10s of thousands of mxds and lyr files. ... What version of ArcGIS Server are you using? Will you be using compact or exploded cache (I would recommend compact)? Do you have a development environment where you can build this cache while your production dynamic mapservice is still running?  If so, I would then copy the compact cache to the location where you need it in the production environment as this should be faster than creating the cache?  Once the copy is complete I would change the mapservice from dynamic to cached. ... Is this a public URL whose REST endpoint I can browse to to see the properties of the mapservice? Is this a mapservice showing windturbines as point locations?  Do you have a scale dependency set on the layer? Can you see the wind turbines at a mapscale where you seem unable to get the pop-ups to appear? ... View more
