Is the GIS Analyst trying to configure the mapservice to have feature access capability that allows editing of data thru the service?  If so, you might need to provide Edit and Create privileges for this user either with their existing connection or leave the existing read-only connection in place and create a new SDE connection for this user with edit privileges that you would then register with server. ... You should have a separate Server Manager for Image Server role compared to your standard ArcGIS Server role. You would have your web adaptor setup to differentiate the 2 server environments. In my environment I have https://"DNS Alias"/server/manager for standard services I have https://"DNS Alias"/image/manager.  You might also be able to use machine name https://"Machine name:6443/argis/manager" to access your Image Server manager.  Port might be 7443 if that does not work. The web adaptor is setup to know how to route the REST service calls to the appropriate server. When you get access to your Image Server Manager, you can then register the UNC path to raw imagery and overviews and then the error messages would hopefully go away. ... View more

Are you using mapped network drive letter or unc paths when saving the imagery and subsequent overviews?  A mapped network drive would work for the RMD, but only unc paths are supported for imagery services. ... View more
