Kia Ora LocalMaps Community!

As promised, LocalMaps 2.3.1 is now available - please contact your Eagle Account Manager to learn more about how to get this applied to your LocalMaps Site.

In this release we have focused primarily on quality fixes, addressing some minor bugs and enhancing the quality of the Product. For full details on what has been addressed in 2.3.1 check out our 2.3.1 Patch Release Notes. We have also made some cool changes to the Report table design process - hopefully making things a bit more intuitive and easy to set up!

In addition to this, we have been working hard to provide you more information, Admin FAQ's, User FAQ's and Best practise recommendations to make the most out of your LocalMaps site. These cover various aspects of Web GIS Publishing such as Optimizing Webmaps, Tips for Publishing Services, Optimising for Fast Printing, Optimizing Reporting and a Data decision tree.

Also note that we intend for this to be the last version until v3.0 - the next generation of LocalMaps which will be released in 2021.

Contact your Account manager today for more information!

Happy Friday everyone!

….And what a happy Friday it is! LocalMaps 2.3 is out now!

So hopefully most folk read what's coming in Julian's sneak preview blog LocalMaps 2.3 & Beyond - so really this post is just to let you all know you can now get your hands on the latest version and crack into those new features.

So to recap and remind folks of what's new....

NEW Conditional Reporting

    • Admins can now combine a series reports into one “Conditional Report”. When the user runs this, depending on what layers their property intersects with only the applicable reports will be pulled into the output.
    • e.g. Hazards Reporting: If a Property intersects with a flood layer, include a detailed report with text/map/image elements about the risk. If a parcel does not intersect, do not include the element but include other reports.

Reporting Enhancements

    • Generate reports as a Word document
    • Generate reports based on a buffered area
    • Include Inline maps

    • Include XY’s
    • New rich text editor for text elements
    • New table element editor to provide more flexibility of table appearance
    • New conditional text element
    • New report button to generate reports within viewer pop-ups

Draw / Measure Enhancements: Users can now export drawings as GPX and KMZ

Search Enhancements: Users can tick on or off what searches to use from the drop-down. They can also preview a search result by hovering over the suggested result to zoom to the location before. These can be disabled by administrators if needed.

Feature Queries: You can now build feature queries off a hosted feature tables.

Want to get onto Version 2.3? Contact your Eagle Account Manager for more information.

If you have any comments, questions or suggestions, please feel free to leave a comment below, or please contactlocalmapssupport@eagle.co.nz.

Kia ora LocalMaps Community!

We hope you had a safe and pleasant long weekend – despite Saturday's result... So to help raise your spirits, we have some exciting announcements to share with you of what’s in store for LocalMaps for the next 12 months.

First announcement!

LocalMaps version 2.3 is almost here and is set to be released on Wednesday 20th November.

Here are the Top 5 New Features Coming to 2.3:

  • NEW Conditional Reporting
    • If a parcel intersects with a flood layer, include a text/map/image element with information about the risk. If a parcel does not intersect, do not include the element.
  • LM Reporting Enhancements
    • Generate reports as a Word document
    • Generate reports based on a buffered area
    • New rich text editor for text elements (e.g. bring in formatted text and images)
    • New table element editor to provide more flexibility of table appearance
    • New conditional text element
    • New report button to generate reports within viewer pop-ups
  • Hosted Feature Table support for Feature Queries
  • Export drawings and features as GPX and KML files
  • Search Enhancements (e.g. User has the ability to tick on and off which searches to run within the viewer)

A list of bug fixes and minor enhancements will be included in the Full Release Notes in confluence post-release.

Second Announcement!

A new direction for LocalMaps…

With new advancements coming to the Esri platform next year, including the take-off of Javascript 4.X, we are in the process of shaping the future of LocalMaps. And we wish to announce that version 2.3 will be the last iteration of LocalMaps as you know it.

But not to fear – we are not stopping the development or support of LocalMaps. Instead, we are looking to super-charge the platform and hopefully give you a better service, more regular updates, and ultimately a better product.

And with that, we are proud to announce that LocalMaps version 3.0 is scheduled for release at the end of 2020.

LocalMaps 3.0 will look to be a re-architected, modular solution, with a revitalised UI/UX - extending your maps further than ever before - but we won’t be spoiling all the surprises just yet. We will however, be in touch in the near future with more details, and to ask for your valuable input on how we can meet and exceed your expectations.

If you have any comments, questions or suggestions, please feel free to leave a comment below, or please contact localmapssupport@eagle.co.nz.

LocalMap’s 2.2 is out! This release brings in some great new features and enhancements including all new RAMM Integrations capabilities. We have also taken the time to address some pesky bugs lurking around! Have a read below for some of our Top new features in 2.2.

See Confluence for Full 2.2 Release Notes

RAMM Integration

Perhaps one of the most anticipated features of 2.2 is the powerful new RAMM Integration module. This capability offers administrators the ability to create RAMM hosted feature layers that sit in your ArcGIS Online or Portal for ArcGIS Organisation.

By simply inputting an existing RAMM Service URL you have the option to then define specific attributes to pull through and change alias fields to make a more readable output for users. You can then synchronize your layer to bring in any adds, deletes or updates on a scheduled basis.

Although the RAMM Layer is created through LocalMaps, its usage can go well beyond just the LocalMaps application. Accessible to the entire ArcGIS Platform, the RAMM layer then be consumed in any web map, in ArcGIS Pro or in web applications like this Operations Dashboard of RAMM forward works data and projects.

For more info on RAMM see here

RAMM Dashboard

Note: RAMM Integration is a paid for LocalMaps Premium Module. Please inquire with your account manager for pricing or email sales@eagle.co.nz for more information.

Viewer

We have brought in some great enhancements to the LocalMaps Viewer and widgets such as…

NEW Print Preview Window:

Know exactly what you are getting when you generate a print now with the Print preview window.

Print Preview Window

Note: this feature requires a Print Layout URL set in the admin configuration.

Draw / Measure Enhancements:

Continuous draw mode & Buffer drawing

We love to hear your feedback on the LocalMaps tools! We had a number of folk request these two enhancements to the Draw / Measure tool. Enjoy a new uninterrupted drawing experience if you need to use the same tool in succession. The continuous drawing mode saves you having to actively turn on the draw tool each time you need to add a new graphic!  Optionally, you can now also add a set buffer distance to your graphics. We have also really focused on addressing some niggly usability bugs in this version too – we hope you like the results!

Draw / Measure

Widgets updated to latest Esri version

  • Layer List

Administration

RAMM Integration was obviously a large feature added to the Administration tools in 2.2 but there are plenty more enhancements to look out for!

Maps & Apps

  • Each map can have a specific group set for the Add Data widget.
  • Enable a disclaimer (splash screen) per map.
  • When assigned Feature queries, you can now reorder how they appear in the popup panel.
  • Feature queries can be added to multiple layers.

Feature Queries

  • Build hyperlinks to add to your feature queries.
  • Build your own Direct SQL queries in Feature queries.

Reports

  • When adding a Map to a report, you can now set this to use a fixed scale.
  • Reporting now supports vector basemaps.

Searches

  • Search against multiple fields in a layer or database.
  • Define number of suggestions returned from a search.
  • Configure the popup that is returned when a search is complete. This can be either pulling in the popup that has been set in the webmap or by building a custom popup (BETA feature).
  • Order searches alphabetically.

Settings

  • Ability to define the Item types filtered into the gallery – make anything from Operations Dashboards to Insights pages to PDF documents accessible to users of your Gallery.

See release notes for more new features & resolved issues in the Administration Tools.

As always, let us know what you think about Version 2.2 and what we could bring into future releases. Add your suggestions and ideas up here on Geonet or get in touch with the LocalMaps Team – Lauren McArtney (lxm@eagle.co.nz) and Grant Carroll (gsc@eagle.co.nz).

The day has come team - LocalMaps 2.1 is here! Chock full of some great new features, even more administration capabilities and lots of helpful UI enhancements, this release is one you won’t want to miss! Check out below for some key updates (This blog builds on a pre-release update from Grant).

Just a note that this is not full list - just our favourite picks for you. Check out the full release notes in our NEW  Documentation System! Read more on the new guides below.

GALLERY

Restricted Content

For Organisations wanting to use LocalMaps as a central destination for all content, that is, accessing both general content as well as secure content – you can now do just that. With Version 2.1, members of your organisation can log in and see the maps shared with the organisation but also content that is applicable to just them.

Link to a Category

Want to send a link to the LocalMaps Gallery but focused on one category of Maps? You now can by appending

?c=CATEGORYNAME to the gallery URL.

VIEWER

We have brought in some great enhancements to existing widgets in Version 2.1 as well as introducing a couple of new widgets to look out for!

NEW Popup Panel

For those of you that have taken full advantage of LocalMaps Feature Queries we know that sometimes there is a lot to squeeze into one popup - which is why in 2.1 you now have the option to use the popup side panel. Now all your great feature queries are easy to view and scroll through and if you have any attached images, these can be viewed directly in the panel (rather than opening a new window).

NEW Mailing List

The Mailing widget (otherwise known as the out-of-the-box Public Notification widget) is a new feature in LocalMaps that allows users to identify a collection of properties and create mailing labels, or a structured text file of owners and occupants. This type of workflow might be useful for planning and zoning departments, but it can be used by any organization looking to notify property owners or occupants of a formal action being taken.

Mailing List Widget

Draw / Measure

You spoke, and we listened! Thanks to some great feedback on Geonet we have resigned the Draw / Measure tool to provide a much more intuitive user experience. In Version 2.1 you now have a simple step through process with collapsible sections for Measure details, Appearance and Drawings. You can now also export any drawing as GeoJSON.

Draw / Measure

Elevation Profile

The 2.1 Elevation Profile widget has been enhanced so you can now choose to either draw a line or select a line to use to generate a profile.

Elevation Profile

Save

You can now log into LocalMaps from within the Viewer itself. Log in using your ArcGIS Named User, or (if enabled) Facebook or Google credentials. From here, you can Save maps with a different map extent, layers visible or graphics drawn. This can then be kept private or shared with another person.

Workflow 5 Integration

Organisations using the Geocortex Workflow 5 by Latitude Geographics now have the option to run those same Workflows from within the LocalMaps Viewer. Geocortex Workflow 5 is a solution offering that provides an easy way to automate business processes.

See release notes for more new features & resolved issues in the Viewer.

ADMINISTRATION

The LocalMaps administration tools have had some great enhancements brought in as well as a few new pages!

NEW IoT Layers

Previously called Hilltop, this section allows you to pull in a display live data from a variety of Sensor API's for monitoring environmental data. IoT layers can include sites or collections from a Sensor Observation Service and/or Hilltop and can be set to periodically return the latest measurements. When you first create an IoT layer, LocalMaps adds it as a new item directly into your ArcGIS  or Portal contents. You can then view and query in your webmaps and web applications – like this dashboard containing an IoT layer on Flow data across NZ.

IoT Dashboard

Updates and Enhancements:

Datasources

  • ArcGIS Services: In Version 2,1 we now support indexing of secure services from ArcGIS , ArcGIS Enterprise or a standalone ArcGIS server. These can then be used throughout the rest of LocalMaps Administration configuration in searches, reports, feature queries etc.
  • Database Datasources: You can now connect directly to your SQL Server, MySQL, PostGres and Oracle Database tables or stored procedures. These can be used in the same method as above throughout the configuration of LocalMaps.
  • NEW IoT Sources: This section (previously called Hilltop) lets you connect directly to a variety of Sensor API's for monitoring environmental data. Within Version 2.1 we support both Sensor Observation Services (SOS) that can return WaterML2 and also services from Hilltop Server.

Gallery

  • UI changes to combine about text and styles into one page.
  • New HTML Editor for the About Text section.

Maps & Apps

  • Set a map to be a Feature Map from the LocalMaps Administration page now (instead of going into ArcGIS  or Portal for ArcGIS and adding a tag).
  • Widget icons have been converted to fonts to allow administrators to set the colour of widget icons.
  • For Organisations on ArcGIS 10.6.1 who are looking to use ArcGIS Enterprise Sites but still want to have the functionality contained in the LocalMaps Viewers, you can create a group to use in the Gallery card when building an Enterprise Site.

Settings

  • Ability to set the default Map sort for the Gallery
  • Enable the Popup Side Panel – this is universal across your LocalMaps Viewers.
  • Set text for Splash screen widget.

See release notes for more new features & resolved issues in the Administration Tools.

DOCUMENTATION

NEW Administration and User Guides

As we bring even more functionality into LocalMaps, we recognize that there is quite a lot of take in – and a PDF document just won’t cut it anymore. So, we have created brand new Administration and User Guides for easier access to LocalMaps Documentation.

User Guide

To make things easier for your users this guide outlines each widget with step by step instructions on how to use it. Even better, each widget help page is accessible just by clicking on the help icon in the widget header. Check it out here.

Administration Guide

Packed with step by step instructions, tips and examples this guide is a go to for all things configuration related! Check it out here.

Hi All

LocalMaps 2.1 is due for release in a couple of weeks and I thought it would be a good time to highlight some of the new features that we have added in to LocalMaps.

Accessing Non public maps and apps.

One of the most requested features, if you login to LocalMaps with your ArcGIS Online or Portal account, then you will see not only the public content shared to LocalMaps, but you can also see content that has been shared with you that is not public. This allows for a good seperation of content and lets you leverage the Gallery and Viewer to surface content to different departments or users outside of your organisation. As always this all driven by Portal\AGOL, so users will only see the content that has been explicitly shared with them.

Popup side panel.

We now have the option to move the pop up information to a side panel, this can help declutter you map and provide a better user experience for users. Its also much better for displaying content from feature queries. Also, if your feature query selects a geometry, this will be highlighted as you scroll through the returned items.

Redesigned draw tool.

We have tweaked the workflow and design of the draw/measure tool to hopefully make it much more intuitive to use. Thanks to feedback from the community we have hopefully got a solution that works a lot better (thanks Andre!!).

Postgres and MySQL support for feature queries.

We now have support for Postgres and MySQL Databases as datasources for feature queries. This can be a real bonus for users of MAGIQ, allowing you to consume and display property related information directly within the popup, with out have to write complex views or overnight processes.

Attachments direct in popup.

If your feature has attachments, we can now show them directly within the popup, these saves users from having to click a link to view and image, instead they can scroll through any attached image or document, direct within the popup.

This is just a few highlights and we have over 40 enhancements coming in the next release and we will be publishing release notes so that you can find out all the new features.

Stay tuned for more updates.

Cheers

Grant

In LocalMaps Version 2.0 we introduced the ability to generate reports using feature actions in the report layer popups

Now, having this functionality in the LocalMaps Viewer is pretty cool (I mean who doesn’t love a good feature action) but did you know you can also leverage this reporting capability in other custom Web Applications, configurable templates or even Storymaps.

Here's how -

1. First create your LocalMaps Report as per usual.

2. Open the webmap in ArcGIS Online or Portal that contains your Report Layer.

3. Click on the Report layer ellipsis> Configure popup > configure a custom attribute display

4. Add a new link to your custom popup. Enter the URL to the LocalMaps Report using the following syntax -<Server>/<Gallery>/Report/< Report name>/{OBJECTID}

e.g. https://s3-aws.demos.eaglegis.co.nz/LocalMapsGallery/Report/Land%20Use%20Report/{OBJECTID}

5. Set your link and save the popup configuration.

6. Click on the popup to test the report runs.

7. Save the webmap.

Now you should be good to go generating reports in your own Web Applications! Want to see a demo? Check out this simple Reporting Web App

Keep any eye out on Geonet for more LocalMaps tips & tricks coming soon!

Cheers,

Wait’s over team, LocalMaps 2.0 is now available.

As our major release for the year, 2.0 is filled to the brim with new features, greater administration capabilities and various UI enhancements. Scroll down to see some of the key updates and keep an eye out here for our new 2.0 video guides coming soon.

NOTE: the below is an overview of key features in this release. See the Version 2.0 full release notes and Functionality matrix for more detail.

LocalMaps Viewer

With Version 2.0 we have enhanced several of the existing widgets, brought in the Add Data widget and in some cases updated widgets with Esri’s OOTB tools. As Local Maps is closely aligned with Web AppBuilder this means that as Esri release new versions of these widgets, we can just plug them into LocalMaps.

Widget updates

Select

Updated to Esri’s OOTB Select tool however, administrators can now additionally enable Advanced Select tools for selection by attribute and / or feature.

Draw / Measure

Leveraging the best of both tools, LocalMaps has combined the OOTB Esri Draw and Measure widgets into one powerful tool. Users now have interactive measurements shown whilst tracing line/shape, the option to include bearing measurements, a fixed radius and line segment lengths.

Zoom to Point
Capture and convert coordinates – NZTM, NZMG, WGS84

Switch Map

Filter map to switch to using tags or titles.

Basemap & Share widgets

Updated to Esri OOTB.

NEW - Add data

Add data from an ArcGIS online group, file or URL

NEW - Widget Help

Users can now see step by step how to use a widget in LocalMaps by clicking the info icon located in the top right of the widget header.

LocalMaps Theme for Web AppBuilder

This release now includes a new LocalMaps Custom theme for Web AppBuilder for ArcGIS. This gives organizations the flexibility to build their own Web Apps, bring in specific widgets outside of the core LocalMaps widgets while maintaining the consistent styling of the LocalMaps viewer.

The LocalMaps theme will be available to download from the LocalMaps Community Page along with instructions on how to build your own Web AppBuilder.

Administration

The LocalMaps administration tools continue to grow giving you even greater flexibility when configuring your LocalMaps site. Below are some of the key new tools and enhancements.

NEW sections:

Hilltop

Hilltop software is used in New Zealand by regional councils, electricity companies and consulting engineers for storing and analyzing environmental data. The Hilltop section in LocalMaps allows you to pull data from Hilltop Server and create a new hosted feature layer to view and query in your webmaps and web applications.

When you first create a Hilltop layer, LocalMaps also creates a new folder in your ArcGIS Online or Portal Organization called “Hilltop”. Any new Hilltop layers you create through the LocalMaps administration page will be indexed here. These can then be added to a webmap and subsequent Web Application.

Feature Queries

A brand-new addition to LocalMaps are Feature Queries. Feature Queries give you the ability to view additional information about a property that doesn’t exist on the layer itself. Essentially, you are creating a related record on the fly and then displaying this information in a layer’s popup.

For example, in the below image a feature query has been configured to display the number of wells that intersect with this parcel. If there are multiple wells, you can scroll through and view the attribution by clicking the arrow button. If there are no wells that intersect this parcel, the popup will show only the parcel attributes as set up in the webmap.

Analytics

This section lets you quickly and simply see how people are using LocalMaps, what maps are most popular, what widgets are most popular and who are your heavy users.

Contents analytics provides administrators with insight into what maps are being loaded, how many times they have been viewed and when as well as what widgets are being used.

The User analytics tab delves deeper into who is logging into LocalMaps and when along with what maps they are viewing most regularly.

Updates and Enhancements:

Reporting

  • Dynamic text reports. Dynamic text reports allow you to use placeholders with specific syntax that the LocalMaps reporting engine understands. When a report is then generated, LocalMaps will replace your placeholders with real values and give you a nice printable document back.

Datasources

  • Add SQL or Oracle Databases
  • Add Hilltop Servers

Maps & Apps (Previously Maps tab)

  • Web apps can now be feature maps too
  • Click on Map thumbnail to launch viewer directly from Admin
  • Assign a Widget to open on map launch
  • Order how widgets appear in the map toolbar
  • Set map to be default e.g. the viewer URL will go to this
  • Enable the Advanced Select Widget

Get Version 2.0 now!

Now we know there is a lot to take in in this release so make sure to check out the new Administration and User “How-to” videos coming soon as well as the release notes and updated documentation – all available right here on Geonet. It was great to see many of our LocalMaps Users at the New Zealand Esri User Conference last week! For those you who made it to the Local Government Special Interest Group, it was especially beneficial to hear your thoughts on LocalMaps 1.1 and discuss the development roadmap going forward with version 2.0 coming out later this year.

As a follow up to this, below is an outline some of the main improvements in LocalMaps 1.1 that were shown at conference. These include greater reporting capabilities, new Save Map and Draw Widgets as well as several bug fixes and enhancements to existing widgets. We also gave a bit of a sneak peek into what is coming in 2.0 - scroll down to check out what to expect!

Our development is driven from you so if you do have any ideas, please feel free to pop them up here on Geonet!

---- What’s New in 1.1 ----

Reporting

There have been a number of improvements to the Report tool and administration. Now in the admin tools administrators can easily view, edit and create advanced reports. By simply selecting a feature in the LocalMaps Viewer, users can then generate a PDF document containing multiple maps, tables and related information. Key new features:

  • Build multi-page reports from a single input feature
  • Include multiple maps and map layouts
  • Add maps, tables and text statements based on a selected feature and linked tables.
  • Move, order and reposition elements in the report
  • Configure buffers and other spatial features
  • Select from predefined templates or upload you own to ArcGIS Server to use.

If you would like to test this and any of the other new tools below, please site head to the LocalMaps for Local Government demo page  (To test the reporting, launch the Land Use map from the gallery. You can then select a parcel and hit the “Generate Report” Button.)

Example of reporting administration

Save Map

Save edits and selections made to any map with the new Save Widget. Saved maps can then be shared with others through a url. This functionality is currently only available in LocalMaps using Portal for ArcGIS (Coming to ArcGIS Online build in August)

Draw / Measure

The LM draw / measure widget has been updated to include more options to edit vertices, move, resize, delete and measure drawn shapes.

Enhanced Select

Improvements to the Select tool include adding a buffer radius on the map when a selection is made. We have also addressed various bug fixes.

Zoom to point

Capture co-ordinates using the zoom to point widget rather than using the co-ordinates widget itself.

Training and Support

We also have a new LocalMaps Administration Training course. Designed for administrators, this one-day instructor lead workshop teaches how to successfully manage a LocalMaps install in parallel with customers ArcGIS Online subscription account and Enterprise GIS installation. More info here.

---- LocalMaps 2.0 - What's coming ----

We have several new developments we have included in LocalMaps 2.0 (release due Nov 2017). These include-

  • Social logins

Sign into LocalMaps using your ArcGIS Online or Portal for ArcGIS, Facebook, Google or Datacom. More providers       to come.

  • UX/UI Enhancements

The LocalMaps administration page has have various UI/UX enhancements including new drag and drop functionality, formatting fields in for your reports, ordering fields in your reports, adding in default searches and the ability to have separate logos for your gallery and viewer

    • Analytics

You will now have the ability to see how maps and widget are being used within LocalMaps. We are capturing when a map is loaded and also when a widget is loaded as well. For those users who have logged in, we will also capture this information too. This lets you quickly and simply see how people are using LocalMaps, what maps are most popular, what widgets are most popular and who are your heavy users.

      • Hilltop integration

Most regional councils in New Zealand are running Hilltop Server, this is a server that provides environmental information out to the internet. With the Hilltop integration and associated widget, you can start to surface this information through your Portal and ArcGIS Online. The widget lets you interrogate the data return data for given time periods and even allows users to export sample data to CSV, or save images of the graphs within the widget.

    • LocalMaps Web AppBuilder Theme

Have a consistent look and feel across all your content in LocalMaps – webmaps and webapps! We will be releasing a new LocalMaps Theme that can be used with your other Web Apps built with Web AppBuilder (Developers Edition)

Future LM development’s is heavily based on feedback from you - the LM Community. This Geonet page is a core part of this so that you can pitch ideas, feedback and start LM community discussions. Its also a great place to check out what others are saying and vote on those too. Ideas with the highest votes will be first in the development pipeline!

Stay tuned for more updates to come - 2.0 is just around the corner!
