Model Builder and Network Analyst

Is there function I can use to calculate distance based on the road network from point A to point B within a model?

Have you looked at the Network Analyst toolbox in ArcToolbox?  The Make Route Layer gp tool is what you're going to want to use.  This will create a route layer that you can export to a feature class and add a field to calculate length.
