The International Statistical Institute (ISI) and Esri are once again partnering together to host the 2025 Spatial Thinking Student Competition. If you are a full-time student enrolled in a college or University and love to use ArcGIS StoryMaps, this competition is for you!
The 2025 Spatial Thinking Student Competition is more than just a contest—it’s an exciting opportunity for students to showcase their creativity, critical thinking, and research skills. Designed to promote innovative research and foster a deeper understanding of spatial thinking, the competition encourages students to explore new ideas, challenge themselves intellectually, and contribute meaningful insights to the field.
We invite all students to take part, push their boundaries, and be part of a community that values discovery and forward thinking. Competition categories can be about geography, urban planning, social issues, economy, or crime. This competition is a platform to help you let your curiosity grow.
Registration is open and the submission deadline is September 15th, 2025. The winner will be announced on October 9th, 2025. Interested in knowing more about contest rules and terms of agreement click here.
Once you register all applicant entries will be submitted to an international panel for review. Subscriptions to ArcGIS software will be made available to use in the contest for the duration of the contest. Login access will be given to use once entered the contest.
They will also provide a Storyteller’s Toolkit; this will include everything you need from rich data sets to cutting-edge GIS technology. In the end the winner is eligible to receive a one-year student membership to ISI or a one-year ArcGIS Personal Use License. Winners will be announced at the ISI world Statistics Congress held October 5th-9th in the Hague Netherlands. (Applicants do not need to be present to win) Some examples from our past winners can be found here. Best of luck!
