Hello,

I have done the upgrading from ArcSde 9.3 to arcSde 10 thanks to
http://help.arcgis.com/en/arcgisserver/10.0/help/arcgis_server_dotnet_help/index.html#/Preparing_to_...

and

http://help.arcgis.com/en/arcgisserver/10.0/help/arcgis_server_dotnet_help/index.html#/Upgrading_an_...

The last step of upgrading with the tool in ArcGis Desktop has succeeded .

After I create an SDE service: OK but I can't start it
"Error starting esri_sde service (1053)
Could not start ArcSDE -- Check Network, $SDEHOME disk, DBMS settings end dbinit.sde"

I checked the SDEHOME, dbinit.sde :ok

ArcSde and ORacle 11g are on the same server (Windows server 2008) with ArcGisServer 10.

Which step did I miss ?
Thank you for your help.

Hi LAFOSSE,

How did you create the sde service? It might be worth double-checking the C:\Windows\System32\drivers\etc\services file to make sure it has the correct name and port of your arcsde service...

Hi,

Thanks for your response.

I created the service with the command sdeservice -o create...

I have also checked that the files services (in windows repertory) and services.sde are OK.

You have upgraded your geodatabase but did you also upgrade the ArcSDE service installation?  The binary files may still be at version 9.3 but your geodatabase is at version 10.0.

Preparing to upgrade a geodatabase in Oracle (See steps 12 to 14)
http://help.arcgis.com/en/arcgisdesktop/10.0/help/index.html#//002n000000p0000000

Check your giomgr and esri_sde log files in %SDEHOME%\etc folder for further details as to why the service is not starting.

Since your ArcSDE service and Oracle database are on the same machine, you would need 'set ORACLE_SID=sid' in your dbinit file.

My error was caused by I have installed ArcSDE 64 bit because (my server is in 64 bits) but I used ORacle 11G client in 32 bits.
