Our field worker crews are working with windows 10 tablets (MS Surface). Therefore we urgently need the new field maps running on windows (10) platform.

Update (August/03/2022) - As my post is nearly one year old: Is it in sight that there will be a fieldmaps solution for Windows OS? Any timetable?

Thanks in advance!

@SarahSaint-Ruth

Thanks for reopening my thread!

As Microsoft  announced to depricate support for WSA in early 2025, we face the same problem as at the beginning of my thread  3 years ago. Furthermore WSA never was an alternative for our authority because of security reasons and reasons of IT operations.

This problem still prevents us from using Esri mobile apps in a wide range of applications, means more hardware and therefore costs! Our budget department will not go along with this.

Will Esri be dealing with this new situation?

I originally created a new idea, but it was marked as closed as it was considered a duplicate with this idea. Below are my comments from my idea.

With the sudden and abrupt end of support with the Amazon AppStore on Windows 11, users will no longer have access to Field Maps on Windows 11 devices.

Considering that other Esri COTS apps have Windows 11 support, it just makes sense that Field Maps would also have Windows 11 support. It doesn't make sense that Esri's flagship data collection app (Survey123) has Windows 11 support, yet their flagship GIS data visualization app (Field Maps) does not, especially considering they are often integrated together using URL launch links.

Furthermore, the predecessor apps to Field Maps (Collector and Explorer) both had Windows support, and Esri's official guidance (Collector Deprecation Notice) on how to migrate off of Collector encouraged users to use Field Maps on Windows 11 and now we're suddenly told "we have no intention to build a Windows 11 version of ArcGIS Field Maps" per this post (Windows Support as Amazon Store is End of Life) despite telling their users to migrate to Field Maps on Windows 11. This entire situation is incredibly frustrating to say the least.

I am guessing here, but I believe the intention is for Experience Builder to offer the solution to this issue.

Todd,

Experience Builder absolutely does NOT offer the solution for us. Field Maps provides workflows for disconnected environments, whether it's using the sync capabilities in a feature service or downloadable MMPKs. Experience Builder does not provide us with this capability.

Why should we have to create, maintain and train on two apps for every project? Staff love Field Maps, it should have been released for natively for Windows right away. We don't need an experience for editing, we just need to use the same great field editing app on a desktop.

This is a very poor standard adopted by ESRI.

Ending Collector without continuing on Field Maps will essentially shutdown a service used by windows field users.

Anyone at Esri, any update on this?

ToddHalvorson

I found this today.  FM for Win11 scheduled to be deprecated in March 2025.  Available on the Amazon Store.  I have not tested it.

One trend I am seeing is some newer controls software is being developed for Android or IOS.

@ToddHalvorson.

The deprecation is what I was asking for an update on.

- Is there an update on the alternative to WSA?

- What does the roadmap look like?
