How to return to the Site from the Portal

I've built a Site where I present the content of the Portal. This Portal is mainly used to consume web maps in Field Maps. The users accessing the web maps in a browser will quickly end up in the Portal and Map Viewer, but from there they can't get back to the Site.

How is this supposed to work? Sooner or later a user of the Site will end up in the Portal. I need an easy way to show them how to get back.

I know that you can open the web maps in tabs, but that should not be the solution here. I want to be able to add a heading among Home Gallery Scene Map to the Site. Or make Home the Home button for the Site as well.

I appreciate any idea how to solve this issue.

I use a Site as well to direct people into maps and apps. I set up a shared organizational theme with our logo, and from there, added a clickable link to the logo. In my case, it links to our organization's main website, but you could easily point it to your Hub Site or any other page you'd like users to return to.

Thanks Laura for your suggestion. According to the information about Shared theme it only works for ArcGIS Configurable Apps, Web AppBuilder and Enterprise Sites. I need the linked logo to be visible in the standard Portal interface, preferably somewhere in the banner in the picture. Have you been able to show your logo in that menu banner?

Gotcha — no, I haven’t tried that. I’m not even sure if that’s a possible route to take. Personally, I just have users open apps directly so I can control the headers within the apps and direct them back to where I need.

Unfortunately the content of the Portal is mainly used in Field Maps which means that most content is just plain web maps. Viewing web maps in a web browser, accessed from the Site, means the user is transfered to the "old" Portal interface.  I would love to make more apps, but as for now web maps is what is used. That's why I would really appreciate the possibility to add something to the Portal's main menu.

Thanks for taking your time to answer my question Laura!

I don't think what you are wanting exists. You're not able to customize Portal's banner to add your own URLs. Since you are using or linking to Portal's built-in web map viewer from your own site, you are essentially entering Portal's "ecosystem" and are therefore limited to what you can do that's not already built-in (such as doing anything outside of Portal's "ecosystem").

Since you're trying to do something outside of Portal's "ecosystem", you will most likely need to develop your own web map viewer that you can integrate into your site that can be fully customized to meet your needs. This way, your users would never even need to enter Portal's site to begin with. They would always stay on your site and you wouldn't have to worry about them finding their way back to Portal's site.
