Disable Geometry Edits in Collector

How do I disable geometry edits in ArcGIS Online using a AGOL hosted feature service?  I would still like to be able to add, edit new related records and feature attributes,  (Using Collector) but make sure field staff are not accidentally  moving points after selecting a feature. It seems like this is a common issue, just not sure this is possible unless the feature service is hosted on ArcGIS Server, which allows geometry edits to be disabled. Is an update in the works?

When you're publishing the service, under the 'Capabilities' -> 'Feature Access' -> 'Properties' section, there is a check box to enable/disable geometry updates.

This should work.

Hi Mitch,

That option appears to be available when publishing to ArcGIS Server, but not when publishing to ArcGIS Online. Am I missing something? Thanks for your response.

Is this option in AGOL the one you want to set after publishing? ('Only update feature attributes')

That option disables geometry edits, but also disables the ability to add new related records, which in our case is what we are doing.

Have a look at this:

http://doc.arcgis.com/en/arcgis-online/share-maps/manage-hosted-layers.htm#ESRI_SECTION1_FFEC2231559...

"Further control of edits for layers

...

To allow the public or groups with a large number of users to see the layer but still allow a small group of people edit it, a default administrator in your organization can create a group that is configured to allow editing of all contents. Add or invite organization members to this group who you want to edit items. All items shared to this group can be updated by group members, including hosted feature layers that do not have editing enabled."

I hope this helps.

Did you find an answer to this ?

If you are only interested in having them add/update/delete inspection records, you could disable editing for the parent feature layer in the web map.  This will prevent field workers from updating the feature attributes or geometry.

Currently there's no way to configure both attribute only-update for the feature and still support adding new inspection (related) records.

Doug has this issue been fix yet. I am looking to the same. I want to disable editing for geometry however I want to be able to add related records.

I am also looking for a fix to this issue. Need to add related records, but not move or alter points.
