Compass calibration

We are slowly deploying the new collector app to all of our crews. One of the crews is having a sporadic issue where the iPad will require compass calibration. It doesn't happen every day, but he said on days it does occur, that it happens often. The internal GPS is turned on, but he manually drops the points anyway. 

We have 2 other crews that use an external GPS with the newer version of collector and they haven't had a problem. 

I've uninstalled/reinstalled the app on his device, with the same results. Just trying to figure out if this is something triggered by the app, or if we have an issue with the iPad itself.

I am having the same issue as mentioned above with one of our teams.

Did you ever figure out what the issue was or a work around?

Will turning off the iPad Compass Calibration fix this without causing other issues?
