I would also be interested in hearing if there is a way to do this as well? Zach: Have you ever tried putting the print service into Asynchronous Execution mode as mentioned above by Jon? Have you tested the print service in an app only used by yourself and seen the same issue?  Maybe if it is a public facing app, many users are trying to print at the same time. Can you use a Save As for Template files like you can for aprx files?  This operation can reduce the size of aprx files as I believe it cleans up the file of excess unused items that build up over time unbeknownst to the user, but not sure if this same operation can be done on a template. Robert: Is the scale bar in the map or in the layout?  I know I had similar issues with a custom print widget and I had to change properties of the Scale Bar layout element.  I would try adjusting the width of the Scale Bar layout element and see if that provides some improvement. I believe I also tried adjusting the Divisions and Subdivisions in the Properties tab, but I don't think those adjustments helped me but something else to try. ... View more
