Sounds like you may not have the right extensions enabled. In the "Advanced Options" window, tab over to "Extensions" and check the boxes next to the ones you want. I tested this by turning off the JPEG and JPEG2000 extensions, and then searching for raster layers with those formats. They don't show up, though. Hope this helps.

Hi, Denise: I've attached a .zip file for the schema that is giving me the error. The feature class contains a number of fields, many of which have domains (but no subtypes). It doesn't seem like a lot, but then again, how many is too many? Incidentally, I I checked the schema out to AXF format, rather than shapefiles. On the mobile device I was installing it on the main memory rather than SD card. Don't think there are any other programs running in the background, at least none that I'm starting manually. My ArcPad Today plugin only contains the default shortcut to ArcPad. The only extensions turned on are JPEG and JPEG2000. As for the Windows Mobile OS, the Mesas are running version 6.5 and the Archer version 6.1. Suppose I could upgrade the Archer to 6.5, but that's also having trouble on the Mesas. And I have no idea where/how to check on the GPS firmware for either of these devices. Am checking with my ESRI folks here to see if we are current in our ArcPad maintenance. If so, will submit a support request. But wanted to get you these answers and attachment without further delay. Thanks in advance, Doug

I'm running ArcPad 10.0 R4 on both a Juniper Mesa (Windows Mobile 6.5) and Juniper Archer (Windows Mobile 6.1). My map has a single point feature class, and I've checked out the schema only. When I load the map in ArcPad, I get an "Out of Memory" error. I've turned off all the extensions, and the error still occurs. When I jump out of ArcPad back to the home screen, ArcPad Today tells me that I have 83.17 MB of program memory free. So how can I be "out of memory?" Any ideas what is causing this error, and/or how to fix it?

An alternate way to size and align controls is to look at their X, Y, Width, and Height values and model your other controls on these values. In addition to matching their size and horizontal placement, you can easily keep their vertical spacing between controls the same. If you're managing a lot of controls, I'd also suggest toggling from "Tree View" to "Source View" and editing those values in bulk.

Hi, Jason: Here is the code I am using to do a similar thing. The user records initial conditions as attributes for a point feature. Then they begin capturing vertices for a line feature. This code gets the starting values from the point feature and uses them to fill in the values for the line feature. Hope this helps.

Does anyone know how to toggle the visibility of the tracklog from within a script? When my application starts, it asks the user if they want to enable the GPS. If the response is yes, it issues the commands:
application.executecommand("gpsenable") application.executecommand("gpstracklog")
By default, when the GPS tracklog is started, it is made visible. I'd rather have it collected in the background, but cannot figure out how to reference the tracklog layer to set its visibility to false. I've tried a variety of permutations of the following statement, none of which work:
Set objTrackLogLayer = Map.Layers("Tracklog.shp") objTrackLogLayer.visible = "False"
Thanks in advance, D. I've written some scripts that use Application.ExecuteCommand to program commands like "gpsstream" and "clearselected." But for some reason, the commands don't actually execute. I can go to the actual ArcPad tools for these commands and run them that way, but I'd really like to minimize user input and run them programmatically. Anybody have any idea why this happens?

I did come up with a workaround for this problem. It involves using a point feature that has the same fields and domains as the line feature. It also uses the same custom form as the line feature. The applet has a custom tool that creates a point feature where you record the initial conditions. The you begin capturing vertices for the line feature. When you have completed the geometry for the line and the editform opens, it uses a recordset object to read the starting values from the last record in the point feature, and fills in the corresponding fields in the editform for the line feature. Will post the code under ArcScripts when I've finished adding a few more features to the application.

I'm trying to develop a wildlife survey application for use in small skiffs. I have two data layers: 1) point features for wildlife sightings; and 2) line features for survey tracks. I'd like to use the "capture vertices" tool to record the survey tracks, but it seems like you can only enter attribute information at the completion of each line feature. What I'd really like to do is show the editform and enter attribute data at the start of the line (start time, observers, environmental conditions, etc.) and show it again at the end of the line to record end time and enter comments. I have chased this one around for two days now, and have gotten nowhere. Any suggestions? Doug B. U.S. Fish & Wildlife Service Anchorage, AK

I've been working on an aerial survey application, and was able to get out for a test flight last week. In order to help orient the observer to the real world, it seems like enabling automatic map rotation would be a good feature. However, when ArcPad automatically pans to keep the aircraft location on screen, it occasionally changes the map scale (and it always zooms out). I've been unable to find any documentation on this feature, so it's not clear how to control it. Does anyone have any experience or insights on this? Thanks in advance, Doug

that the form should be closed first, before deleting the feature. But it was easy to move the ExecuteCommand statement in front of the form close statement. Unfortunately, that doesn't work, either.

I've created a button on an editform to delete the selected feature. Here's the code that is called when the button is clicked: Sub DeleteSighting Dim objSightingsLayer Dim objSelectedLayer Set objSelectedLayer = Map.SelectionLayer if objSelectedLayer is Nothing then msgBox("No feature is selected!") exit Sub else Set objSightingsLayer = map.layers("Sightings") objSightingsLayer.Forms("EditForm").Close Application.ExecuteCommand("featuredelete") end if End Sub When I click the button, the form closes, and the ArcPad dialog box asks me if I want to delete the selected feature. However, when I say "yes," the feature is not deleted, and it becomes unselected. If I select the feature and then use the "Delete Feature" command from the drawing tools menu, the feature is deleted as expected. Any idea why the "delete feature" command doesn't work from my edit form?

Is there any way to create a new, external .txt file from ArcPad? I notice that the File Object has all kinds of methods, except "Create." But it does have a "Delete" method, and also a "CreateDirectory" method. Is this just another ESRI oversight, or am I missing something here? NEVER MIND! I just found out that our IT folks have removed our access to create files in the root folder, which is why the file cannot be created.
