I am having trouble editing suddenly. I am trying to move a polygon from one spot to another. When I select the polygon and click the Move edit tool, the polygon appears offset from the original location. When I move where I want and click save, it then is offset from where I wanted it to be located. Hopefully the pictures below help explain what I mean. I tried restarting ArcGIS Pro and also my computer. Still doing it. After I click "Move"

Thank you Mapper7775, Say I have two Trimble DA2 units, but it they are shared among say 5-6 different staff. We have the two Basic Desktop licenses. Do the other 3-4 staff each need a separate Mobile User License? Or can I get like a shared license or something? They only each would use the DA2 on occasion. So I just don't want to spend $385 apiece for something a person may only use like once. Have others run into this? Is there a license type that can just travel with the GPS somehow regardless of who is using it? Cheers, Justin

I am completely clueless about integration between the two apps. It may be necessary, but I feel overwhelmed and under prepared just considering the idea. Are there some good education resources, how to videos, or anything like that you can give me as a starting point? Cheers, Justin

Thanks. Good to know Field Maps might do the trick. That is what I am most used to myself, but I have not done a lot of form design. I just load the web map and edit data as I go. I'll have to learn how to do it. Cheers, Justin

I have been asked to setup our GIS field setup to collect data for archaeology purposes. The people in the field want to be able to skip paper forms in the field and instead complete the information from our GIS/GPS setup. I am not sure what the best solution is and was hoping for feedback from others. Do you think creating forms in ESRI Field Maps would work best? Or would using Survey123 work best? Any archaeology people out there with insights since I have not really seen what data they collect? I think they have forms that show a soil profile, which is not straight text, so not sure how to best enter that type of data? Cheers, Justin

This may seem like a simple question, but I have two ArcGIS desktop basic licenses for our small business. In the past, it has just been myself and one other environmental person that used our Trimble DA2 combined with Field Maps for data collection in the field. For us, we use it for wetland delineation to collect wetland and stream locations along with other features like underground utility markers and photos. We have archaeologists as well, but the use so far has been for one of us current users to run the Trimble Catalyst 1 on-demand subscription to locate Soil Test Pit (STP) locations in the field. I have a request now for archaeologists without a GIS license currently to be able to use the Trimble DA2 and Field Maps in the field to locate additional STPs that we did not mark initially. So they need a license since I don't want to hand over my username and password to them. They don't need to make maps, just collect data. There appears to be like 4 different license types and it appears they are to be paired somehow. I am not sure what we need to get for our needs. They appear to be similar use cases. Any insights?

Hi Everyone, I am trying to do a Viewshed analysis for an electric transmission line in Monroe County, PA. I have a DEM raster that I found on PASDA, but I cannot find a DSM with vegetation and structure elevations to use with it for a complete Viewshed analysis. Does anyone know where I can get both a DSM and a DTM/DEM for use in this analysis? Or I could create both if I have raw .LAS file if anyone knows where I can find that? Cheers, Justin Johnston

Hi everyone, Our small environmental company has in the past had all GIS done by just myself. I saved files in OneDrive and although that had some issues, it worked for just me. I just hired a new Environmental staff person who is now the 2nd GIS person in our org. We need to collaborate on mapping now and she opened the first map that was on my Sharepoint site and got an error about files being deleted. I realize ArcGIS will just not work on Sharepoint like that, but I don't know what procedures we should be using instead. I understand we could move our feature classes into ArcGIS Online, but I don't know the best workflows and such to make that work correctly. Can someone give me some clues? Is there a training, presentation, video, manual, or something you can point me to? Also, we are not to a point where we would be able to justify a Enterprise or a local server with VPN access and such. Cheers, Justin

Mistake. I just renewed my ArcGIS Desktop Basic license (you can use ArcMap or ArcGIS Pro with that license) and 3D Analyst extension. Adding a second license for a new employee as well. Just need to get in touch with a sales rep because it requires a quote so they can add your license to your org since it connects to ArcGIS Online. You can’t just buy the license in the online store yourself. Cheers, Justin

I am having the same troubles on my Field Map that I created for wetland delineation. Allow editing and Sync is on for all layers. The online version of the webmap works just fine, but the offline map area version doesn't allow editing. If I create Offline Areas in my iPhone, those are editable. Cannot seem to make it work with the Designer App.

Never mind. I was trying to share as a feature layer and needed to share as tile. Worked now. Was able to share clips as hosted tile/feature layers. Then was able to enable sync. Then was able to turn on offline maps for use in Field Maps. cheers, Justin

I tried to do that, but can't publish it. I get error 00102: <value> does not contain a required layer type for <value> when analyzing.

Hi Everyone, I am trying to create a Field Map to take offline in to collect wetland data. I wanted to have the SSURGO Hydric Soils layer and USA wetlands layer, both hosted by ESRI to be shown on the Field Map in offline mode. Those particular layers had to be removed in order to enable offline mode because they are not sync enabled. I don't need to be able to edit them or anything, I just want them to be visible like a basemap sort of thing. That way a delineator can see on their phone that they are in an area of mapped hydric soils, which helps fill out their data form. I can see them if I don't enable offline mode for the web map, but sometimes staff don't have a cell signal in the field so offline viewing is needed. Cheers, Justin

You would right click the feature class labeled that you want to be able to drag the labels, and “Convert to Annotation”. Note that you need to convert annotation to the scale of the map you are making. Annotation doesn’t scale like labels do. You can only move and edit the annotation using the “Annotation” edit tool. Although the “Move” tool will move the annotation, it won’t behave the way you expect. I do suggest playing with Feature Weights and Position of labels before resorting to annotation. Cheers, Justin

As others noted, convert the labels to annotation. Note some quirks that will then frustrate you will be resizing the labels and editing them/moving them. When converting to annotation, make sure you know what scale your map will be so that you convert to Annotation at that scale. If you zoom in/out on annotation, it will get larger/smaller rather than maintaining the same font size like labels do. When editing annotation, including moving it, the only edit tool you should use is the "Annotation". If you use the "Move" tool on annotation with a callout line, the line will move along with the annotation rather than maintaining the anchor on the feature it is labeling. To move the text with the callout line staying put, you need to use "Annotation". Similarly, trying to edit text using anything but the Annotation tool, will be frustrating. Also, before resorting to Annotation, you might want to first play around with positioning and using "Feature Weight" to prevent labels being overtop what you don't want them to be on top of. Cheers, Justin
