Hello, Where can I get more information on application sign-in which is mentioned as one pattern for authentication. I'm assuming this means all our SAP users wouldn't need ArcGIS online accounts? Thanks! JB

Ok ... thanks. I didn't know if the import of the JSON did some voodoo and thus editing that file wasn't really allowed. I bumped up on this ... http://forums.arcgis.com/threads/45341-Local-MapServices-not-displaying-in-ArcGIS-for-iOS-after-VPN-dropped-once ... and didn't know if my JSON meddling might have been the issue. All I did was change a true to false so don't think it was my edit. JB

Hello, I followed the below link to store a mobile map definition on our local ArcGIS Server instead of in ArcGIS Online: http://help.arcgis.com/en/arcgismobile/10.0/apis/iphone/AppGuide/Maps.pdf After importing I wanted to make a slight change (visibility of one of the layers to false) so found the JSON definition here: C:\inetpub\wwwroot\ArcGIS\Mobile\ItemsRoot\c9cb0745276e4c35b082eb4acf7ab6b2\MyCoolMap Is it ok to edit this JSON? If not is there any way to change a map once it's 'added' to the MobileWeb folder? Thanks! Jess

Yeah ... I did give that a go but just pointing to a map from the public Esri gallery. No luck. I haven't tried creating a new map using the aforementioned link just because it takes a while ... that's probably the next step though? A couple other things that I did (about the same time the VPN failed) I should maybe mention ... 1) I designed the map in ArcGIS.com, then followed the doc to get the JSON which I then stored local. I then went back and deleted that map from ArcGIS.com. 2) I also decided to change the visibility of a layer so found the JSON here and changed a bool: C:\inetpub\wwwroot\ArcGIS\Mobile\ItemsRoot\632d56c5feb84f55a477f190d835abbf\Item Is this file not to be edited? Thanks! Jess

Hello, I'm working with a utility that is interested in exposing their secure MapServices to smartphones/tablets and initially we are testing this using the ArcGIS application for iOS. I followed the below to host the map description on the local ArcGIS server so that users don't need to login to ArcGIS.com to have access to configured apps. http://help.arcgis.com/en/arcgismobi...Guide/Maps.pdf The workflow was this: 1) connect to wifi 2) VPN using Cisco AnyConnect 3) Open ArcGIS app and point to local server 4) Open map (map using Esri Bing basemap and two local MapServices) This worked at first; however, once my VPN session was dropped the layers no longer appear on the map once I get the connections set up properly again. Is there some type of cache that might need to be cleared (besides the Safari cache which I tried) that would perhaps persist a 'broken' layer and prevent the layer from showing once properly connected again? Thanks, Jess (*This was also posted in general ArcGIS Online forum)

Hello, - I'm using feature linked annotation that has been manually placed. - The linked field in the feature class is an integer which is updated every couple minutes - I only want to show the annotation if the value of the integer is > 0. My issue is that whatever mechanism I've tried (setting value to 'null' in table, setting query expression to only show anno when value > 0, other ...) whenever the anno is not shown, then a valid value comes in the anno is re-created at the default location and the manually placed location is lost. How do I 'filter' anno without loosing it's location when it's not displayed? The only workaround I can see is using a string field instead (and setting value of anno to " ") .... but that would be lots of re-work for other reasons so is a last resort. Thanks! JB

Hello, I'm hoping to put together a python script that reads xml files and creates new points in an existing feature class. The xml has the point data in lat / long (NAD83); however, the target feature class is NAD27 state plane oregon north. Am I correct in saying that there isn't really a way to re-project individual point geometries ... and that I'd need to create a featureset (or feature class, this is 9.3) in memory to call the project tool, then read possibly append that point data to the target fc? Thanks in advance, JB

Hello, Newbie GP question: I'm attempting to calculate the total footage of all polyline features found within a polygon. Some of the polylines extend behind the polygons edge, I don't want to calculate any footage that goes beyond the polygon. 1) Am I correct in saying gp.SelectByLocation wouldn't work for the above scenario? (Because there isn't a way to clip the polyine's at the polygon boundary) 2) IF I have to clip_analyis to get proper footage, am I going down the right path of using a scratch workspace and storing the clip as a shapefile? I don't need to persist the clip result, I just need to loop through the result and get the footages. In testing the clip is redokulously slow going this route ... Thanks in advance! Jess

Sorry ... replying to the forum on different machine with internet access and retyping by hand. It is spelled correctly: import arcgisscripting gp = arcgisscripting.create(9.3) envs = gp.ListEnvironments() I've been able to call tools (RasterToPolygon, AddField, SearchCursor) ... it just seems like anything related to the environment or workspace isn't available ....

Thanks for your time. I tried with the correct syntax and still get the error ... import arcgisscripting gp = arcgisspcripting.create(9.3) envs = gp.ListEnvironments("workspace") yields: AttributeError: Object: Tool or environment <ListEnvironments> not found. This all works on other machines, just not on my Windows7 machine. Only thing that I've found (that's suspicious) is if I right click on ArcToolbox to get to the GP settings the form is blank.

Hello, I was wondering if anybody else has experienced this. I'm unable to simply set the workspace (or scratchworkspace). The error I get (in PythonWin/Idle/Executing from Toolbox) is: Traceback (most recent call last): File "C:\Projects\PythonScripts\Script34.py", line 13, in <module> gp.workspace = "C:/Test" AttributeError: Object: Environment <workspace> not found The python script is simple: import arcgisscripting gp = arcgisscripting.create(9.3) gp.workspace = "C:/Test" Things I've tried: - Various formats of the path based on ESRI doc - Checking the versions of Pthon/PythonWin/Numby (and reinstalling several times) - Running in safe mode - Looking at event viewer for error - Using procmon to see if something shows up there - Setting the license level (per others in the forum with same issue) - Creating the geoprocessor various ways from ESRI doc I'm really stuck ... any thoughts as to why this would happen would be MUCH appreciated. Most other properties and methods on the gp seem to work. Windows 7 ArcGIS Editor Single Use 9.3.1 SP2 Jess

Hello, We are just working to better understand this method. We have an application where a user clicks on a map and we find the closest polyline and obtain the measure value from that *location*. All the samples / doc I found that obtained measure values from a user specified area used the IRouteLocator2::Identify; however, what's happening behind the scenes? It takes an envelope and returns an enumeration of route location results. It seems like only there is only one result per mpolyline returned in the enumeration. How is this *location* determined? The envelope will cross the mpolyline twice .... so don't know where it's getting the measure from. Thanks in advance, Jess

Hello, I need to project a user digitized polygon (GPolygon) before executing a QueryTask. I *think* this is an issue because the ESRI/Google API returns an ESRI geometry type after projecting a google geometry (GPolygon). The ESRI/Google API only takes Google geometry and thus the quandry. Why: I think it's a bug ... our data is in NAD27 and we've had limited success getting it to align with Google as a dynamic map service. Per an ESRI knowledge doc we have VBA code in the map document serving up the data. This aligns the data with google visually; however, when we perform a querytask the results we get back indicate the querytask is performed against the native projection (NAD27). So I was thinking I'd take the polygon the user digitizes and re-project back to NAD27 prior to performing the query. The only thing I can think of is switching to the ESRI/JavaScript API for the QueryTask. It looks like it's query task does take the ESRI geometry type. I'm not really stoked on referencing both the Google/ESRI and JavaScript/ESRI libraries so wanted to see if anybody had thoughts on a different approach? Thanks in advance! Jess

Hello, We tried to find the info to address this in help; however, no luck so far: - We are replicating a dataset from SDE to a FGDB. - We add the entire dataset to ArcMap and go through the create replica wizard - We choose 'simple' data since the 'advanced' option specifies that versioning is required for the child replica (which a FGDB doesn't support). - We do select to bring all related data; however, when the replica is created all the annotation layers are skipped. Does replication support feature linked annotation? If yes, does it require the child replica to be an SDE gdb? Thanks in advance, Jess
