Hello everyone, The issue described in this post has been reported and is being dealt with as a bug in the program. ESRI is apparently working on it so it will be available again in a new release. In the mean time I'll see if I can perform the same task in a 3d modelling program. As soon as I here more about it I'll post it here. Thanks for the replies! Victor

Hi everyone, Perhaps this has been noted before, but I can't get extruded features to have transparency in Arcscene 10.2.2, although this was possible in previous versions. Does anyone have an idea of why this is not possible any more? And perhaps anyone here also noted the X-ray vision! issue, also dealing with transparency...? cheers, Victor

Hi everyone, I have been in touch with ESRI NL people and they have not been able to find a solution either. Two issues were suggested: one is the use of a custom coordinate system and the other is that the TINs are too 'complex'. I can hardly think of a less complex TIN shape but here we are. This is starting to become a pressing problem as I need this for my research. All help is welcome. I have added a mappackage for anyone interested in having a look at it. I have set everything in WGS 1984 Web Mercator now. (also the tins in this example are made up of a few more points) Thanks! Victor

Some guys here at ESRI Netherlands are on it now, it seems there might be a problem with the coordinate system we're using. I'll post again when we have a solution or if the problem persists, would be a bit much to have people all over the globe working on a solution... Thanks a lot though! Victor

just in case you aren't sure how to proceed (previous posts were rather desperate): download the data i sent to new folder rename the excel file and the excel sheet so that it doesn't contain spaces or other weird symbols. just use letters, numbers and "_" open arcmap button add data - select shapefile 'colorado counties' button add data - select 'local crime...' excel file - the first sheet you should see the colorado counties as polygons. right click in table of content, - open table in left upper corner button - menu - add field, name it X and type = float again add field, name it Y and type= float again add field, name it "name_short" or similar in table view, right click X - calculate geometry - x centroid in table view, right click Y - calculate geometry - Y centroid in table view, right click "name-short" field, - calculate field: vb script fill in: Left( [Name], (Len( [Name] )-7 )) - this will result in a field with only "pueblo" as name rather than pueblo county in arcmap tabel of content: rightclick your excel table - join - use colorado counties name short and excele sheet name field to join. right click tabl in table of content - display x y data, using x and y fields which you can select. voila: one point for every county every year with data appended. you could also choose to append the table data to the shapefile of county polygons - prettier pictures remember though there is one polygon per county and there is a large number of county/year records.

Hi Abdalla, I have had a look at you table, I have rearranged it a little, have a look at the attachment. simple table, no white spots, no spaces in column names, extra field county. if you add all other records you have to this table you can import it as table in arcmap. then either link it to a shapefile or add x y info of every county. I have added the new xls and a shapefile (derived from Colorado.gov: The Official State Web Portal) - polygon - there are tools to convert it to points. Hope this works Victor

Hi Abdalla, What is available in your table - only county names? if that is the case, see if you can find the coordinates for the counties and add them to the table (one column x one column y). perhaps give an example of your data?

Hi Christopher, Do you have separate line segments of which you need slope information? You could use "calculate field" for this in the table view of your feature class. Calculate Length, and elevation difference (Min Z / Max Z) of each segment and then calculate slope by dividing elevation difference by length. Hope this helps. Victor

Thanks for you reply Khalid, I tried the process again but now with a buffered polygon but it unfortunately yielded the same results. Any other ideas? I'll see if I can contact ESRI directly as well, if there's a solution there I'll post it here. Victor

Yes, I have on another occasion used these tins for an extrusion with a top and bottom tin, this was simply an example of the shape of the four-point-tins. For the extrusion that failed recently I have used similarly shaped tins on the same location but one as top and one as bottom tin. The problem is that the extruded feature does not take on the shape of the tins but becomes a simplified squarish shape. I have attached an image, made up of three screenshots. The top is a view of the two tins on top of each other. the second is the tins with the wrongly extruded multipatch (pale orange), the lowest one is also the two tins with multipatch but now seen from a different angle. Notice how the multipatch is constructed with holes in it... Cheers, Victor

Creation of tins is done using a Delauny triangulation, using four points this results in two triangles (think of a piece of paper slightly folded along one diagonal). in the attachment there are three tins, each made from four points, left seen from the top, right birds eye view.

Hi all, I don't know what I'm doing wrong here but a seemingly simple operation has resulted in wrong outcome. I am trying to create an extruded feature between two tins. I have a Tin constructed with four points for the top and a tin with four points for the bottom. simple. then I constructed the tin domain and used tha in the extrude between tool. the resulting multipatch is an extrude square with flat top and bottom; set at the minimum distance between the tins. ie the feature is extruded between the highest elevation of the lower tin and the lowest elevation of the top tin. I must have tried everything by now (triangulated domain, using the break lines of the tins as polygons) but nothing works. There must be something simple I am missing here. Anyone know what it is? Thanks a bunch Victor

So I have been looking around a bit more and it seems there was a transparency set for the features which were suddenly translucent. These are extruded polygons and show no transparency in regular view, but, when viewed through a different transparent feature, the extruded polygons are completely transparent. So the issue is narrowed down a little but still not fixed. Anyone other ideas?
