I have a particular way I like to set up my panes, but sometimes I will get into a project that opens panes I rarely use or for some reason my panes just get messed up. Then I spend time putting all my panes back the way I like. In the View tab there is a tool called Reset Panes with a choice of three configurations, and clicking one will reset all the panes (and close all the ones not in the configuration). But that's usually a pretty minimal setup and never has the specific panes I want. What if there were an option on that menu to save my own pane configuration and have it appear on the menu. Then at any time I can restore a custom pane layout that I have developed. A format for a pane configuration file must already exist because there are three on this menu. They can just add the capability to save new ones - and probably a manager interface like Bookmarks has so that you can overwrite or delete them. This also solves some of the other Idea suggestions of being able to close unwanted panes when you are through with a session. Just save your pane layout when you start, do your magic, and reset to your custom configuration when you are done.

So my next thing to try was to create a new, empty map in the same project and copy / paste all of the layers over to it and see what happens. It edits fine in the new map - Map Topology works and everything. I switched immediately back to the original map in this project - NO GO - SAME 'LOCKED' ERROR. Back to the new map, edits just fine. This tells me that the original map I had set up for editing has become corrupted with respect to the map topology and there's no way I can fix it. I now get to re-write all the Tasks for that map using the new map and I'll delete the corrupted map. I've wasted a day on this ... so far ... with more time to come. If there were such a program as an APRX Doctor, put "rebuild / reset the map topology" on the list of things it should do. This is one of those quirky things that you can never replicate and the cause may never be known. But I guarantee it has happened and is a PITA.

There are things within the Project file that apparently can become unsettled and cause issues, and these aren't always things the user controls. I'm experiencing this issue right now: I have a project for editing utility data, and I've been working on water lines since Jan 2020. Everything has been working fine, and I have used the Map Topology extensively for things like moving water valves and fire hydrants and having the line features automatically alter to stay connected - or moving a water line segment and having the valves move with it. HOWEVER, the project has started acting strangely. Starting last week, if I do any operation (such as move or rotate) that would require the Map Topology to change connected features, I get an error " Move Failed. This data is currently locked by another user can cannot be saved". If I turn off the Map Topology, then I can edit anything I want with no errors. Of course then I have to manually repair any connectivity. There are no user defined parameters for Map Topology - this is just automatically set up by the project. So perhaps an APRX Doctor type program could check these things that are automatically set up and repair if needed. Also, I'm the only one here so there can't be another user locking the data.

It would also help to make the Locator options available from the Geocode Addresses and Rematch Addresses georocessing tools. Currently the only access is through the interactive Locate tool.

Same issue - but I'm trying to export the Cartographic Representation geometry override. Can't do that in Catalog. And even though it used to do this, it apparently doesn't any more. I have my water system with hydrant locations. The symbolized location isn't always exactly on top of the true location because of readability. But I have a representation override that has a new symbol that has been placed exactly over every hydrant. I need to export the representation location but that no longer works.

In the expo hall, Esri will set up a LARGE area with specialist booths on every aspect of their software. The Esri employees there are very anxious to meet and talk with you. Even if you don't know what a product is or does, stop and ask. You'll discover new things. And especially if you are having issues back home with a product, this is the place to get answers. The people who wrote the code and developed the product you are asking about are probably standing right there and will be really excited to hear from users how their products are being used! I once had an issue with Data Driven Pages, asked around a bit at the expo, and wound up sitting with the guy that wrote Data Driven Pages getting insider info on how to get it to do all kinds of things. This is truly a hidden gem.

This is a nice workaround but isn't how the tools are supposed to work. The Cap Type and Join Type should do this using the Miter or Bevel settings. But I can't get this to work. Are there any secrets here? I'm also finding that you can only control the drawing order of layers in the Symbol Layers pane by placing each layer in it's own group. I have 8 classes of streets, so the number of groups gets pretty large.

I had students facing this same problem. We had a file called BigBend in geographic coordinate system GCS_WGS_1984. Note that the units are in Degrees. Take the unprojected elevation raster and use the Raster Calculator to create a Raster Attribute Table. int(BigBend_dem.tif) ... new output something like BigBend_INT The reproject the new file into UTM. Project Raster - give it a new output file name (BigBend_Proj), set the resample technique to Cubic (NOT nearest) THEN set the output to Projected Coordinate System > UTN > North America > Nad1983 HARN UTM Zone XX (whatever your UTM zone is). Now try running the slope tool and let me know if that works.

EXCELLENT TIP! I'm glad I found this in my research into installing rather than after I'm knee deep in it!!

I've downloaded the Map Series app to host locally and I need to customize the address locator. Here's the app: http://gis.eulesstx.gov/ewebapps/MainPage/index.html I went into the app folder and edited commonConfig.js to look like this. define([], function() { var config = { bingMapsKey:"", helperServices: { geometry:{ url: location.protocol + "//utility.arcgisonline.com/ArcGIS/rest/services/Geometry/GeometryServer" }, geocode: [{ url: "http://gis.eulesstx.gov/wahost/rest/services/Euless_Composite_Locator/GeocodeServer", suggest: false }] } }; commonConfig = config; return config; } ); I'm using the REST link to the geocode service. Is that right? Because it isn't working. You mention that there's a trick to this ... I also wasn't able to modify this in the application in AGOL. I opened the application, switched to edit mode, but I don't get any sort of drop-down configuration for the search tool like the picture at the top of this topic shows.

Yes - close the widget after the map has panned to the bookmark. As an example, I might have a list of bookmarks that are the city parks. The user can choose a park where they might want to run the trails. After they click the bookmark, it zooms the map to the bookmarked location and the widget closes. If they want to see another park, they could activate the bookmark widget again.
