A basic principal of bar/column charts is that the y-axis should generally show zero. ArcGIS Dashboard allows a minimum value to be set. In theory, you can set the minimum value of the y-axis (value axis) and and adhere to this principle. That works well if all of the values are positive or all the values are negative. But when charts are generated dynamically and there is a mix of positive and negative values then this option does not work. The next three chart show the current limitation. Here is data for a county where there are a mix of positive and negative integers. This looks fantastic. Note that in this example, the y-axis (value axis) minimum value of zero is not set. Here is another county where all the values are positive. Unfortunately now the zero on the y-axis is no longer shown. That's a violates the rule of equal area in bar charts that we should adhere to. To fix this problem, I can set the minimum value of the y-axis (value axis) to zero to solve this problem. If I set the minimum value to zero, that will fix the second visualization. But what happens to the first county? With the minimum value set to zero, the y-axis is now truncated at zero (maybe as expected/designed) and no data is shown for the first year in the series. Note is should be -28 as is shown above. I submit we need an option to "show both positive/negative values" when the minimum value on the y-axis is zero. This option should be placed on the Value axis configurations tab near the "minimum value" setting. This solution would permit a configuration that is currently mutually excluded. Enable a series with all positive or negative values to show zero on the y-axis; and Prevent a series with a mix of positive and negative values from being truncated. Some would probably argue for the using a line chart to get around this problem but I think the bar/column charts are easier for the casual viewer to interpret, especially when there are values above and below zero. To me, this is borderline a "bug" and not a feature enhancement. Either way, to adhere to good principles of data visualization, we need an option to "show both positive/negative values" if the minimum series value is set to zero. Live link for this dashboard is here: https://tiny.utk.edu/co_est_202x_dash. Examples shown are from Cannon and Cheatham County. Thanks, Tim Note: Edited to change the name of the idea from "Always show zero" to "show both positive/negative values" when the minimum value on the y-axis is set to zero

The changes worked for me and I'm getting the desktop view as expected and no longer getting the mobile view when the desktop scale is set to 150%. Thanks for addressing this so quickly! Tim

Hi @ArielLow2146 , @Sabra-FRC , @KenBouchard I was experiencing something similar on my laptop (getting mobile views when my screen resolution was way over 600px tall as @DavidNyenhuis1 mentioned). When I would screen shot the viewable area of the browser/dashboard it would show the resolution was viewable area (with bookmark bar etc.) was 1915x857. Perplexed... So in Windows 11 on my trusty Dell, I changed the scale from 150% recommended setting) to the 125% (see below). The setting is found under System -> Display -> Scale & Layout. For me, this solved the problem and I began receiving the desktop version of the dashboard as soon as I reloaded it in the browser. If others find this to be the problem, hopefully the user's scale selection is something which the Esri wizardry could detect and perhaps account for when determining which interface to serve. But for end user support, the parameterized solution (#view=desktop) or changing display scale may help. I was also thinking about putting the link in the dashboard bookmarks for others encountering this. Something like "Force desktop view" with a link to the parameterized URL that @JohannesLindner mentioned. Hope this helps, Tim

I propose that we need a way to select an item in the list by default when a dashboard opens. To be clear, proposing that a default SELECTION of the top/first item in a list element. The functionality would be similar to the choices offered in filters where the first/last/none can be chosen. When a list selection is made, I often times use this to filter numerous other items in the dashboard such as indicators or gauges. In some cases, its not appropriate to show a sum or count of these features until a selection from the list is made. By having a default selection, these other elements could be properly filtered and display correct values by default and without an initial user interaction. As an example, the gauge below needs to show the number of states where new unemployment claims fell in a given week. Without a selection from the list of weeks from the list on the left, I get the incorrect value. I do have the option to filter until there is a selection (which is awesome) and can show a tip instructing the user to select a week. Ideally we could choose to select the first/top item in a list as a default selection so I can get this to display for the current week by default when the dashboard opens and no user interaction is required. @DerekLaw @DavidNyenhuis1

Charts sometimes need to be displayed using one value axis and two categories. An example would be values such as "Employment" and categories such as a month and a state. The chart is built normally using the categories from the "Grouped Values" A list (of states) can is then added to the dashboard and an action tied to the serial chart to enable a filtered display of data from the second category in addition to the time series. Importantly, with the "Grouped Values" option selected, the sum of the values axis is displayed when there is no selection in the list. In other words, if not state is selected, the sum for all the states in the serial chart data source for each month is displayed. However, If two-series need to be displayed on a serial chart, then the "Categories from Features" option is used. As is visible in the image above, when the "Categories from Features" is used, the chart displays values for all the categories (states) simultaneously. Ideally, the serial chart would display the sum of the values axis for the Month category, not the value for each state. When a state is selected in the list, thereby filtering the values to just a single state, the chart renders as desired. Two separate but similar proposals which could fix the behavior) Provide the option to use more than one series on a chart configured with "Grouped Values" When using the Categories from features, provide an option to display either one of these two mutually exclusive configurations - the sum of features values or each category (the current default behavior) Derek Law
