There can be two reasons. When the map was published from ArcMap or ArcGIS Pro to ArcGIS Online, you can select options to be able to delete, edit, create, etc the published feature layer. Then once in ArcGIS Online you can change the feature layer settings as well, but not if for instance you chose to not be able to delete in the publishing step.

We have recently been testing the top end Samsung Ultra. Hard to get better. 1.4m GPS accuracy and big battery that lasts a full day of mapping, with some to spare.

Hi Mondi_GIS In the Australian Capital Territory government we have had no sync issues with Field Maps app. Your issue is puzzling. It sounds like it is trying to sync your large reference layer. Maybe create a tiled map with the reference data instead. That should fix the issue.

All good in the Australian Capital Territory. We have 120 users on the same invasive plants map, and no issues reported on Apple devices. One thing that has transformed Field Maps app use for us is having a dedicated GIS Officer ensuring all the correct steps are followed when publishing maps and they also deal directly with Esri to sort out problems.

Good question. A good way to test how accurate a smartphone actually is is to use the GPS test app by GitHub. We run the top end series Samsungs and pro version of iPhones. The Field Maps app often has the GPS accuracy at 3.2 to 4.2m. But if you run the GPS test app, they are actually often running at 1.8m accuracy. As good as a purpose built GPS. More than adequate for mapping our project sites. To improve to below 2 metres you can buy a Bluetooth surveyor quality GPS. That will give cm accuracy, but they are expensive.

Best to report bugs through your esri contact directly, or report as an issue from within the app - in the app go to your profile then select about Field Maps, select send feedback. We do both when a bug arises and usually one these avenues gets a response.

Hi @Linde_Carmack we have found to get urgent issues or bugs addressed you need to raise them directly with an esri app developer. Two ways to do that: report the bug through your esri help desk, or report the bug within the app, via the the send feedback option.

Issues with the new map viewer for ArcGIS On-line (thank goodness the classic map viewer is still available) Here is one of the issues with the new map viewer. We have a date field in our feature layer because the day of the field work is often different to the creation date. You can use configure fields to change the date format and remove the time stamp. However, the edit/create a feature function fails to take into account those edits. In addition the date field in edit/create a feature does not have a pop-up calendar. Hopefully one of the ArcGIS on-line developers has noticed these problems? @DerekLaw @GFernando

Make a formal bug complaint with esri. We did last week. The more people report it the better.

We had something similar happen and it relates to the bug where Field Maps app intermittently logs you out. If this log out has happened after you start mapping off-line, then when you try syncing, when back in mobile data/WiFi range, you will get a sync error. Easily fixed. Flick out the app - or restart device. It will then ask you to log into the app. Then you can happily sync your edits. I wish esri developers would spend more time testing the app in real word conditions- eg. working offline, and test it on-line multiple times daily, to see when the intermittent log out bug occurs.

Anyone with ideas how to stop Field Maps app intermittently logging out users between sessions - occurs on all Android devices. It is disruptive to work flows, particularly for remote staff - when they discover the app has logged them out in the field. Same bug occurs on Collector for ArcGIS on Android. Does not occur on Apple devices - a hint to the developers for debugging.

Understand, thanks @JohnathanHasthorpe - for the quick response. We will just tell staff to use Field Maps if they want to append an image. Was just making sure I had not made a mistake.
