More than two and a half years later... Tom, I'm sorry to have to say this, but in my opinion this is absolutely ridiculous . Please allow some irony, I understand, this is no AI, 3D, AR and all other buzz words ESRI (and whole world) like to brag around on conferences and in paper articles... how far technology came... but this, this is just putting tables into layouts... how endless boring... Nobody cares. Sad. Cheers

@EricAnderson_DHS Sorry for this delay... Well, my requirement for Excel formatting in layout is quite modest, still not possible in ArcGIS Pro. I make a lot of maps with Excel table embedded and that looks like this Mostly, I have to show coordinates of some polygons, but I make the head of the map (right lower corner) with help of Excel table too. In fact, I have to be able to format cell borders, resize cells (rows and columns) and give some underlying color, change the color of the font, move table around. That's quite all. No big deal. But, it is next to impossible in ArcGIS Pro, handling that joke of table is so quirky and awkward. I truly wonder how come, not many people cry out for this in ArcGIS Pro, at least I haven't noticed it. How do other cope with this? No idea... I cannot imagine, nobody needs tables in their maps. On the other side, I am absolutely perplex, ESRI doesn't even bother much to provide this simply functionality, it declared embedding technology for legacy and obsolete and end of the story, bye bye quick and easy. Cheers

Thank you EricA for your answer! Yes, as I wrote (I didn't know how to properly name that step- "...to add it as a table into TOC...", hahaha), I could do that, but it is far less than what I would need to do (format, general handling). I cannot bring such table anywhere near what I would need that my table in layout should look like. It is very weak possibility and not really useful for my workflow. Cheers!

Hi there, after many years of struggling, I can say that I can do almost all of my daily workflows in ArcGIS Pro. One of the biggest things left is the ability to embed an Excel table into layout, which ArcGIS Pro cannot (and happily won't). I can remember I read somewhere on ESRI site, that this is not supported, because it is regarded as legacy technology or something similar. All right, but unfortunately, that doesn't mean for me, I need not to embed Excel table in my layouts. On the contrary, I need it in ALL my layouts and they are a lot. Now, I was some time not active in this forum and although I tried to find anything on this topic through search, I haven't found much. My simple, yet quite desperate question would be, please how could I embed or how ever it is called now (integrate, import...?), my Excel table into layout in ArcGIS Pro? It is extremely clumsy and quite boring way of doing that, when I first have to add it as a table into TOC and then place it in layout. But, I could live with it, when I had all those possibilities of format and handling of it, like it was in ArcMap, but I haven't got it. The frame is impossible to adjust, column width too, bolding borders is a pain to set and merging of cells is mission impossible too. If anybody has ever solved this, please, please show me how. I would gladly do it in ArcGIS Pro, but as for now, I have to hop here and there between ArcMap and ArcGIS Pro every time I do layout. Cheers Vladimir

Thank you very much Kory Kramer for your detailed and quick answer! Indeed, I was not aware of some things (e.g. Zoom to selected rows) and some things I simply did not know (e.g. how to set showing attribute when scrolling). I will come back later to all issues and answer in more detail. For now, thank you and the team behind again for very helpful explanations!

First I thought, I would quick write a couple of notices on what is now better in ArcGIS Pro when it advanced to version 2.5. However, it got out of control and became almost a kind of blog. I have been writing it since 7. of February (which is the date when I updated to actual version), always when I got a small time window to do it beside my regular daily work. I sincere wanted to write about what got better, but now I realize there are more things on wish list for next versions of program then what got better. I am not happy about it but I cannot help it. Always better in ArcGIS Pro Work with raster data has been always much easier and faster in ArcGIS Pro. Various transformations is easier to do here, than in ArcMap, especially with raster data. Lucky you, who work mostly with raster data! Much faster saving edits. In ArcMap it lasts eternal and then you still have to end the edit session. Sometimes you save edits, getting back no error message but then when you will close edit session, program asks do you want to save your edits… very confusing and unreliable. ArcGIS Pro solves that much better. Never better in ArcGIS Pro Calculate field works instantly in ArcMap, in ArcGIS Pro it is a pain. It lasts much longer. NOW GOOD (v2.5) In general, the app is much more stable. I have not experienced crash since I updated to 2.5 version. Work with attribute table: Copy/ Paste with mouse direct into the cell is now much better, means much faster and without those odd flickering of the whole table. It does not jump around when one row is deleted and does not change the column width. STILL NOT GOOD (v2.5) Work with attribute table: Still not possible to zoom to ALL selected rows. Unbelievable. Really. There is an icon right bellow ( ), indicating whether table is sorted or not. This is quite unnecessary for me, because you cannot do anything with it. It just signals, something is sorted, but that you can see in the table header anyway, so no added value for me. It would be better, when tool tip would show (except the info “yes it is sorted” or “it is not sorted”) by which attribute (column) it is sorted. Of course, furthermore, it would be a hit if you could unsort by click on that icon. But that is probably too much asked. Generally, it seems there are a couple of very odd effects related to work with new search field (ctrl- F). The thing is, they are not so good reproducible, often almost hidden. First off, it is not always obvious which column is being searched. The text “Find in: <name of column>” is not always visible. In addition, there is possibility of different behavior depending on whether is any row in table selected or not. Not quite sure about this one. Since I am a great fan of work with keyboard, after many tries I came up with following workflow, which turned out to have minimum odd behavior and other errors. First click on column header (it determines which column is the search by and AFAIK the only way is by mouse) Then click in the field to give criteria (string to be searched for) Click enter button. Now happens following: Sometimes is all fine, first row with found text jumps in front of your eyes Otherwise, sometime a row is found, but it doesn’t jump to be visible. In this case I click enter button once again and voila, lazy table jumps to first row with wanted text. The odd part is, in second case, when it finds something, but doesn’t jump to that row, you haven’t got possibility to “kick it” to jump. Nice would be for example, to empower the arrows for jumping through the list of found rows ( ) to do exactly that- jump to that only row found. These arrows are disabled when just one row is found (which seems to be logical, since there is only one row found and there is no need for scrolling through results). I am not sure I described it clear enough though. Yes, there is a workaround, first click on Select Matches, then run below to Show Selected Records, but that is super spectacular lame. I refuse to do it. One thing more. It appears that ctrl-F jumps on result only when the result is in the same screen, means you do not have to scroll to the result. Simply put, if the result row is here somewhere on the screen, it will be highlighted. If not, system doesn’t jump forward or backward on it. Then, when you klick again on search button, then it does jump to result. This appears to be reproducible, it repeats every time again. Very confusing, I know, but I don’t know how could I better describe this permanent fight with crtl-F… . There is though a way to improve this unfortunate ctrl-F tool. Not sure how costly for programmer would it be. Instead of always having to click on column header to set attribute you are searching by, there should be a drop- down menu with all attributes from table direct beside other buttons of ctrl-F, on the right side. So, when you choose one attribute, it stays chosen. Now, every time you do anything in the table (and you DO it of course, that is the nature of your business in the attribute table), this chosen attribute changes. If there were such drop- down menu, no matter where in the table you click, the attribute in the drop-down menu would stay the same and you could work much more fluidly. Without it, you have to click on that stupid column header every time you want to search for something. I miss those arrows from ArcMap to navigate through table . Especially when I want to jump to the end of table (or begin for that matter). Yes, I could use combination Ctrl- Arrow, but it is not always convenient. Load all is very, very annoying, to say the least. It appears as developers opinion, a table with 2000 or more entries is too much for modern computers memory to handle. Come on! Two thousand rows? And they put in that annoying Load All button and no matter if you click it and table loads all rows, after first operation in table it jumps back again to Load All state and shows only the first two thousand rows. I would like it, when I say Load All, then it loads all and stick with it. Don’t jump back to Load All! Why wouldn’t we have a possibility to change it ourselves? I would say, it should be in settings, where you could set the number at how many rows in table it goes in mode Load All. Furthermore, here should be a check box “Do not switch to Load All ever” and so my ArcGIS Pro would ALWAYS load ALL rows in the table. It would be my responsibility to assess if my system is enough performant or not. Or for example, I could set it to switch to Load All mode only when there are more than 50000 rows in the table, how about that? Scrolling through the table is very laborious. You do not get to see rows scrolling in front of your eyes (except appearently when there are less then 2000 rows). Instead, you rather see just a useless counter of rows and when you stop scrolling (and don’t let loose the mouse button) you can see value of some field in the table. For me, this is useless as it gets, I do not need no row counter and I do not need some irrelevant field value. I understand, this value is the first field most above in the screen of some attribute. But, what I need is to see all rows and not this funny game with disappearing of rows and displaying row counter. Except that, I have no slightest idea, how is determined of which attribute is showed the value and if I can change it or not. It seems, for different tables it is different attribute. And then, this Go to row number navigation. How in the world should I know the number of any row? I mean, the first ten I could counter down, but further? Wandering where can I read the row number. No clue. I will post this now, before it gets even lengthier. I am not quite sure should I post this at all. Perhaps people who feel the same and have the same problems as me can find some use of it. If nothing else, then the certainty they are not alone. I will not post it for voting, because I don’t think voting is the right way to do it quick and clean. Except one like playing around and waiting eight years for implementation. Cheers.

Tom, thank you for your time, you try it really hard to give any possible help here, I appreciate it very much. I have my hard time (should I say years?...) with ESRI platform and that funny transition to ArcGIS Pro and I may be sounding kind of embittered from time to time, but I do understand that this is a problem because ESRI is such a slow moving, narcissistic, big system with lot of departments and rooms and corridors and it is all so hard to coordinate and get moving faster... still, I know there are at ESRI many people who want to help and most probably they understand themselves that it is not everything quite perfect at ESRI, but they cannot do much to change it. I am quite sure about that. So, now back to your answers. I don't think I should report this bug, you said ESRI is already aware of it, so what would be the point of it? I would just make a mess in ticketing system with the same issue. I assume, when ESRI knows about a bug, they do work on it and I expect some solution soon. You showed really big legend, my friend! I have just a small one, with three items and don't need no search to find out which is the top most. But, still, I don't have the possibility to change status of it (as you said, this legend item controls the Group layer visibility of others), this item also has just inactive check box! I have got no way to change that status anywhere, at least I haven't found it yet... So, all I can do is to wait for ESRI to solve this issue. Means, we are talking about six to eight years, judging on how long ESRI needed to implement Search and Replace in attribute table... Hopefully they didn't organise voting on this... For example, I wonder what happened to legend styles we all know from ArcMap. It is easy there, you choose one style that suits you and voila, everything is fine, you can choose from styles with description, labels, group names, what ever. That was simple, I had no problems with it. Now I have to figure it out first how to do it and then I have got that bug. I keep asking myself, why on earth did ESRI THAT to legends? Oh yes, I haven't got "big picture" of ESRI visionars. Admittedly, I really haven't got it. You know, in old good ArcMap legends are also dynamic and as I add some layer, they appear in legend dinamically, so what is the difference in ArcGIS Pro? And in ArcMap legend also gets bigger as it gets items added. So why the heck I would need this unintuitive, unusefull, ununderstandable, unnecessery grip frame around legend? I don't get it. All these questions, all these efforts of you, me and all of us could be avoided, if ESRI had some usable, practically and good accessible help (online or not), where all this new points of view, changes, differences and approaches would be clear and thoroughly explained! Why are they not? Why is online help so unusable? Why they don't explain this new concept of grip frame of legend there, where they write about legends anyway? No, I have to write tens of geonet posts, google around, ask everybody like an crazy, waste your time, waste my time, try myself to find out what the heck is new with legends. Is that really good concept ESRI? Do I see it not correct? That is so annoying. Last but not least, it would be so nice when this editor had a spell checker... For me as not native english speaker it is hard to write without spell checker, I am sometime not sure about correct word spelling. And I would like to write correct english as far as it is possible to me. Unfortunately, I got again in my frustrated mode... sorry for that, I didn't want to bother you with it. Thank you again Tom for your time! Cheers.

Well, this is the first time I wrote about it. But it happened many, many times before, over the months and years back, I lost the count after all. And out of some reason, I cannot get over it after I hit enter again. Of course I tried that first, that is the first reaction one does anyway, I would say. That is one of the reasons why I stopped to use online help. OK, I could think of "too broad search"... perhaps. But 113 results doesn't appear to me as too much and then, if it really is like that, to say "try again later" is the worst response I could think of in that case.

Many thanks Tom that you made such effort and thoroughly explained the bug with Group layer name toggle. Unfortunately, I am still not able to do it right, even in the way you described. I was fighting with this stupid bug for some time now and only by accident I found out that I am not alone. Just frustrating, indeed. This bug is just one case more which keeps me from using ArcGIS Pro in many workflow cases and it does not get much better with increased version number. Such a bitter and unfortunate situation. When we are speaking of legends, please, could anybody shed a light in the matter of size of legend? Why on earth when I resize legend, the frame with grips gets at some point off the legend? For what purpose could that be good? How could one control that? I am completely stunned. And than, to say the very last frustrating point in the whole story today, please does anybode has a clue why I get no result after search in ArcGIS Pro online Help? For example, I go to the first page of online help and enter my search word "legend". This word should be in that help text by any means, isn't it? I hit search button and get as follows I should try again later??? Very, very fine stuff, thank you ESRI for the help. Thank you for any input. Cheers.

Yes Zach Anderson, you speak out of my heart. How many times I looked over to PRO online help, only to see there are no screenshots and clear steps, ending with python and other developer reference hints about coding I don't understand and don't need at all and still with no clue whatsoever about what I was looking for. And then I would try to search online help, mostly getting only peculiar results I don't need, nothing at all or some error message.

Come on Mark, don't dispair. It just takes ESRI years to react on this, that is all. Don't lose your heart, that's just the way it is. Oh yes, I've gone through all that anger long time aago. At the end, I gave up, I use ArcMap. They just don't have got ears for this trifle. They think big, AI, drones, 3D... not Find and Replace. That is boring.

Tracey, there is no such thing like "...if you want users to...". They don't tick like that. We all will have to abandon ArcMap sooner or later (rather sooner). No choice left whatsoever. That is the fact. And yes, ESRI doesn't have to do anything, history learns us. They let us vote, play around, that is, bread and games. Again, you hardly have got a choice without major and painfull changes in your organisation, if you come to the cheerfull idea to switch GIS platform to anything else than ESRI. It's not that I would recommend that. Cheers!

Tyler, you talk out of my heart. Every single word you say is true. Now, they want me to be more constructive in my complaints. I understand that. But, the matter of fact is, even if I want it (which I do), I don't have got that time. Simply as that. In my work, I am heavily involved in software development and I can say, that is a lot of time and many mails to get things right and done. I cannot see how could I do that for ESRI. And for what? Yes, to participate in their work free of charge, still paying a lot of money for a working software. Like in good sense of ESRI community. No problem, I can do that- one day when I get some time, when I am not in work and when I am in the mood (not resting exhausted of my own work). Except for, when I see how much they care year after year about what all of us users write, I get progressivly out of that mood. And that could be a problem. Cheers!
