@KoryKramer I'm wondering if there is a way to do this for all of the features in a layer in one shot. Like if you have 40 polygons and want the fill and outline to be the same color for each feature, but where you want the fill to be transparent and the outline to be opaque. Sure you could do that where you change the transparency of the fill for each feature, but that is not efficient if you have a lot of features. You can also apply a color ramp to both the fill and outline in the symbology pane, duplicate the layer, remove the fill for all symbols in the topmost layer, and then tweak the layer transparency for each of the two layers accordingly. You end up something like the screen grab below (which needs tweaking), where the internal division colors match the general polygon color so you can see they are subsets of the broader area. For example, showing state house of rep boundaries within larger senate districts. This is a solid workaround, but it'd be cool to be able to do this with the layer symbology in one shot, where you can control the fill and outline transparencies independently of each other for all features at once. Hope that makes sense!

This may seem like a silly question, but which of these is correct: 'StoryMap' or 'Story Map'? I see it written both ways, even on Esri's website. I've even seen it spelled both ways within a single Esri blog post! As an example to illustrate my question: should it be written out in a title as 'Marine Debris Cleanup StoryMap', or 'Marine Debris Cleanup Story Map'? Thanks for any guidance here! And if you happen to see this post Esri, maybe you could tell us your preference?

D_AnneHammond-- It didn't start working for me until I updated to 3.0.3, and so far so good. Hopefully updating Pro will work for you too!

After years of needing to use ArcCatalog alongside Pro to index and search for spatial data on my machine, indexing is now working for me in v3.0.3. Yay! Hopefully updating to 3.0.3 was the ticket and indexing starts working for for others as well.

With each new software update I hold out hope that esri will resolve this issue, but alas I still get the old 'Indexing is in progress' message whenever I search catalog in Pro. I've tried everything I can think of, and esri support has not offered a solution yet either. Ugh.

Thanks for posting your solution, Jeff, but alas it did not work for me. I'm pretty sure I've tried every combination of turning things on and off, restarting, deleting old indexes (which are always 0 to a couple of KB in size), and esri support even had me do a clean install of Pro. Nothing has worked so far. Until there is a solution, I guess I'll need to install the old Desktop Catalog for searching for data that live in geodatabases. Although its not optimal, I can always search for shapefiles via Windows File Explorer.

Argh! Search in Pro has been working for a while after one of the recent updates, but I'm back to the same "indexing is in progress" messages with searches now with 3.0.0. I can use windows explorer to search for shapefiles by name, but not for data buried in geodatabases. And I don't have the patience to call support and have them walk me through rebuilding the index or even doing a clean install, as that has done nothing to fix the problem in the past. And I am just using Pro now, so I can't go back to Desktop Catalog for searches. Sorry for the rant, but this is so frustrating!

I had the same issue, where labels would not show up in a scene if the symbology for the fill and outline were set to 'no color', even if the labels for the exact same layer layer were visible in a 2D map. Changing either the fill or outline to having color in the scene, even if set to 100% transparent, fixed the labeling problem. Strange behavior, but it works. Thanks for the tip, Jeanette!

Hey all-- is there some setting I am missing in Pro legends that would make patch sizes match the chosen symbol in the TOC in terms of proportions? For example, if you choose a hexagon symbol for a feature in the TOC, the hexagon appears totally stretched in the legend. I can manually change the patch size for any given layer, but where you would think the width and height should be the same to make it square (like 12x12), you actually have to play with the numbers to get it to look even on all sides. The screen grab below illustrates what I am talking about, with patch sizing shown for each feature in the legend. Thanks for any insights or tips!

Having experienced incredibly slow exports of layouts with all versions of Pro (now on 2.8.3), even with all data being local, I decided to see how a python export script performed. In this particular case, it was just taking a few minutes to export via the GUI and not twenty (although I've had it take even longer with complex layouts!), but still painfully slow. I did a bunch of tests, and here are the average export times for this particular layout: Export time via the Pro GUI: 2 minutes 55 seconds Export time via the Python window: 22 seconds So Python was 8x faster! And when I experimented with some exports of maps with raster data (heat maps), the difference was even more pronounced-- almost 3 minutes vs 12 seconds. I guess I'll be digging in to python export options for a bit, at least until the Pro GUI can handle exporting my layouts in a more timely fashion. Here is the code I used: aprx = arcpy.mp.ArcGISProject("CURRENT") for lyt in aprx.listLayouts("TestLayout"): lyt.exportToJPEG("C:\...\Maps\PythonExport_HeatMap", 200)

Being able to set transparency for logos and other layout graphic features will be a welcome addition-- glad to see this is in the product plan! As a workaround I created multiple png versions of our logo in illustrator, each with different levels of opacity for the actual logo/text, and I set the background transparent. I can then place the version with the appropriate level of transparency in any given layout. It's a bit of a pain and takes some trial and error, but it works! @AubriKinghorn @KoryKramer @KevinStandage

I just figured out that the NEW map viewer allows you to display photos uploaded via Survey123 directly in popups, so problem solved! Now I just need figure out the code needed to exclude the filename of the images, as that's a bit of a distraction. But that's a different topic...

This storymap example shows the results from a Survey123 survey, and the attached photos are nicely displayed in the popup for each data point. Click on the embedded "Explore our oceans map" in that link to see what I'm talking about. The 123survey form itself is located directly below the webmap in the storymap, and if you happen to submit a new entry, the entry with your photo shows up on the map instantly. If that is what you are trying to do, Jessica, then I'm with you-- I want to do the same thing! It seems like a simple thing, but all I can do in the popups from my survey123 layer is show the links to any attached photos, not the photos themselves. If you or anyone else reading this have found a solution, please let me know. Thanks!

Another new version of ArcGIS (2.8.1), and still the dreaded "indexing is in progress. Please wait or search again later." I've been waiting for a couple years now! Back to Desktop ArcCatalog we go...
