Hi-

Why does dividing an integer raster by an integer raster (either in the Raster Calculator or the Divide tool) produce an output integer raster, instead of a floating-point raster?

It is referred to as integer division and is common in most programming languages, also, it is described in the help files.

OK, thanks.  I'm not a programmer, so I expected a "normal" math result.  Other tools involving division (Cell Statistics (mean), for example) produce floating point output, so I assumed that division would too.

I suspect that cell statistics (mean) enforces floating point division to avoid what you have observed
