Utility Network Analyst: Custom valve isolation

please, see the attache image that shows my question

i wanted to know whether the ArcGIS 10 includes the very urgent command "Custom valve isolation" as built in tool.

This command SELECT the nearest valve that to be closed in case any ruptures occurs at any point in the pipe net work, and thus this valve must be closed to prevent the follow of water at that point!

do we still to add this command in the VBA?

thank you in advance,

regards

Jamal

Jamal,
The tool is included in the Infrastructure Editing Template.  The template include an add in that contains this functionality as well as a secondary trace, a sewer profile graph trace and much much more.

You can find the released version here
http://www.arcgis.com/home/item.html?id=14bdfb26bc2f4e0388a633fbd0ccca02

And the most recent beta version here

Hi miller,

I tried to use the command to find the nearest valve to close in case we have a rupture at the indicated point but sounds to be difficult to perform this command!

How can i "Click a location to start the trace"?

please, see the attached screenshot that shows my question

how can i use the tools available in the "Infrastructure editing toolbar" and "Infrastructure reporting toolbar"?

Do these toolbars can entirely replace the "Utility Network Analyst" toolbar?

Is there a more detailed manual that explains thoroughly how to use these two bars?

thank you

regards

Hi Michael,

sorry for the frequent posts.

I couldn't even know how to select the point at which I've a rupture to find the nearest valve to close.

Watching the video suggests that we have two icons under the "Valve Isolation Trace". In the installed toolbar,  these icons are not existing. Screenshots are taken for the installed toolbar and the toolbars from the video".

Why the two icons under the "Valve Isolation Trace" are missing in my toolbar and existing in the toolbar shown in the video?!

It would be highly appreciated how can i use the  "Infrastructure editing toolbar" and the "Infrastructure reporting toolbar" in order to close the nearest valve of a rupture point.

By the way, can we use these two toolbars if we have our own data which is built using the geometric network (screenshot is provided)?

Thank you,

regards

Jamal,
The toolbar in the video is an order version and it has changed since the filming.  The tool allows you to click a location on the main and preform the trace.  So select the Tool and just click on the main.  If you want to return all the features as a selection set, hold the control key down when you click on the main.  Where you able to get the tools to work on the sample data?  Did you get an error about a source not being defined?  If so, you need to connect a water source to the network(wNetworkStructure).  Find one of these features and connect it to a water main with a new water main.  There was a problem with the sample data that is going to be fixed in the release this week.

You need to update the configuration file to allow the tool to work on your own data.  If you download the most recent version from the Beta thread, there is a tool to open the configuration file you.  You will need to update the Trace Isolation tags, these tags let you define the Sources of water and the Valves, as well as their fields and values that define if they are operable or non operable.  I would review the overview pdfs that are also available on the beta thread.

Many thank Michael.

- At all! the "The Valve Isolation Trace" is not working. for example, i wanted to find the nearest valve to close for the location indicated in the the attached screenshots, i clicked the "The Valve Isolation Trace" then went to select the Main but nothing happen! furthermore, the icon of the "The Valve Isolation Trace" becomes inactive)!!

What might be the problem?? how to use this tool?

- Where is the link to "download the most recent version of the configuration file" so that i can "define the Sources of water and the Valves, as well as their fields and values that define if they are operable or non operable"?

appreciated,

regards

Thank you Michael.

Sounds that the tool "The Valve Isolation Trace" is working now!

BUT my question is still not answered: "Finding the closed valve to close"!

In the attached screenshot, i wanted to find the nearest valve to close in case of rupture at the indicated point, how can i use this tool to achieve this purpose? All what i get is a long message saying that "No water network structures......"

Please, how to achieve this purpose?

I'm using the data from the "Infrastructure Editing Template for ArcGIS 10"
http://www.arcgis.com/home/item.html?id=14bdfb26bc2f4e0388a633fbd0ccca02

Appreciated,

regards

Jamal,
That is a problem with the sample data.  A wNetworkStructure feature in the sample data is not properly connected.  The new release of the data and tools(release just now) has this fixed.  You can download the new version with the updated data or find a structure in your dataset and connect it to your network.
