I lost the link to this as well. But go into ArcGIS Administrator -> Advanced -> Manage Portal Connections Make sure the portal and agol entries are there. Test the connections. If that still fails Goto Control Panel -> Internet Options ->Advanced - Security Uncheck Check for publisher's server revocation Check for server certificate revocation

Is the data source registered with ArcGIS Server? Does the data source contain a unique key field that can double as a ObjectId key? Consider using the the Make Query Table tool in your model/python script before calling the Add Join tool

Good to know I am not the only one struggling to do this. All I need to be able to hook up with database tables and publish them without needing to first register with ArcSDE and the Geodatabase. Always worked Cool at ArcGIS 10.0 and ArcGIS 10.1 flavours.

That all depends on the cleanup time specified for ArcGIS Server to handle the results management. By default, the MaximumFileAge is 360 minutes (6 hours), but can be edited depending the the frequency and requirements of the Geoprocessing Service.. ArcGIS Help 10.1 Susan

I think it has locked the file because it didn't get cast as the result.

Hi Dorothy Geoprocessing Services have changed a bit since the ArcGIS Server 10.1 release. Your code works fine at the Desktop Tool level but when applied to ArcGIS Server is does not know where to find the output result datasets it has generated. The code will need to be modified to use the ScratchFolder, ScratchGDB and the ScratchWorkspace arcpy variable. ArcGIS Server goes through and validates the code when the tool is published as a service. A new task is created each time the GP Service is called and a new (temporary) sets of Scratch Workspaces are created. Did you get any warning messages when you published the tool? It will normally tell you it couldn't figure out the path to the data because it is not know to ArcGIS Server. http://resources.arcgis.com/en/help/main/10.1/index.html#//001w00000047000000 Susan

Have you deleted all the objects that have been created in the script behind the GP Service? ArcGIS Desktop takes care of this (mostly and usually) behind the scenes. But all objects in memory need explicit removal after use. For example, #create mxd in memory mxd = arcpy.mapping.MapDocument(r'some fmxd') #todo remove mxd del mxd If sounds like it is still hanging around in memory and that why it's status is lock. Susan

What version of ArcGIS Desktop are you running - version 10.1 or higher? arcpy has included AcceptConnections, DisconnectUser and ListUsers. I have not tested out against the ArcSDE 10.0 database, but these have been my preferences these days for managing users during scheduled system maintenance tasks.

Howzit Christopher That's correct. Reason I suggested opening the mxd in memory is to establish if the issue is with the heavy, ArcMap Desktop application, or whether it is due to the complexity in the mxd. ArcGIS Desktop (ArcMap) is heavily dependant on it's host graphics card when opening the Map Document. Opening the Map Document in memory is not as dependant. Susan

At the moment this process is comparing apples and oranges and it will give incorrect results. This said, the process needed is to build in a reproject function to take the coordinates from Geographic Coordinates (decimal degrees) into Map units (meters). #Todo Get distance between 2 point Step 1: Build up representation of 1st point in memory as PointGeometry Object Step 2; Reproject point in map units Step 3: Build up representation of 2nd point in memory as PointGeometryObject Step 4: Reproject this into Map Units Step 5: Compare the 2 points using Pythagoras Formula. Attached is a function to perform the Reproject using the arcpy module #projectSR def projectSR (pt, sr): #sr = spatial reference, pt is geometry in memory #constantts gcs = arcpy.SpatialReference(2193) #2193 = factory code for NZ Transverse Mercator gt = 'NZGD_2000_To_WGS_1984_1' #geographic transformation, if application coords = [] ptgeom = arcpy.PointGeometry(pt, nztm).projectAs(gcs, gt) coords.insert(0,(ptgeom.centroid.X)) coords.insert(1,(ptgeom.centroid.Y)) del ptgeom return coords Call projectSR to get the coordinates in map units meters and then you'll be able to use the Pythagoras theorem. Either the graphics card is well below spec and ArcGIS Server is taking a while to render, or the mxd is significant which also takes a while. Does the mxd open up in memory using the arcpy functions? e.g. #todo: import Modules import arcpy, string, os, datetime, sys, shutil #set map document mxdDoc = r'full path of your mxd' mxd = arcpy.mapping.MapDocument(mxdDoc) #todo: print Something print 'document Opened #todo; remove traces of the mxd del mxd (Remember to delete the mxd at the end.) You will need to register your new ArcSDE Enterprise Geodatabase with ArcGIS Server (the middleware that manages all ESRI Services, data sources etc). Currently, ArcGIS Server does not know about your new Enterprise Geodatabase.
