My understanding is that manually removing the WAL files is a temporary workaround. Ideally, you should schedule the webgisdr utility for full backups, sent somewhere with decent storage space. That resolved the issue over here. Once the webgisdr utility is run once, this becomes a necessary step. A good question is: "is there a way to undo whatever parameter is set by running the webgisdr utility the first time?"

JQuinn-esristaff, So we are already running the WebGISDR tool for incremental backups every week, and a full backup every month. Would you suggest increasing the frequency of incremental backups, then?

Every 60 seconds, our portal is delivering a warning that: "Wal files size exceeded the maximux size." (not "Maximum"). Code: 218018Process: 5676 From our initial search, "Wal" might mean "Write Ahead Logging", which indicates that this could be a mis-configuration with the datastore? But we didn't find any unusually large files there. We took a look at our hosting server, and it is delivering an error: Error deleting WAL backup. Write to configuration store failed.. Extended error message: An I/O error occurred while sending to the backend. We are running ArcGIS Enterprise 10.5.1 on Windows 2008 R2. Ideas on what to look for?

Just to clarify the steps (sorry, my IIS skills are lackluster): Generate a favicon .ico file Drop that icon into the wwwroot folder ("C:\inetpub\wwwroot" in our case) Clear the browser cache, restart the browser, and the icon should appear on the next load? I followed those steps, but still not seeing the icon.

I'm attempting to change the favicon for our Portal site (10.5.1). Upon loading, the favicon does not show up--not even the Esri default one.We followed the steps here: How To: Add a custom favicon to Portal for ArcGIS, but with no success. This included adding the favicon.ico image to the wwwroot folder and the webadaptor folder, then clearing the browser's cache. Is there an updated procedure?

I am using the ArcGIS API for Python to clone users, groups, and content from one portal to another (both on-premise, Portal for ArcGIS). When running the script below, I am only given public groups, rather than all groups in the source portal. I figured that administrative privileges would allow me to see every single group, but I can't. Am I missing a parameter to clone private groups? # filter out system created groups source_groups = source.groups.search("!owner:esri_* & !Basemaps") source_groups This step is outlined here: clone_portal_users_groups_and_content | ArcGIS for Developers

Similar to the question: How can I help a google search find my story map?, what is the best practice to improve the searchability of an AGOL-based story map using search engines like Google? Does detailed metadata help with this? Does submitting a site map to Google help/ is that even possible for ArcGIS Online?

Accessing that folder through `REGEDIT` in command prompt, I see that I can add permissions for myself to write to that folder. Should I be giving permissions to the arcgis system account to write to HKLM?

We are attempting to install Portal for ArcGIS, and we encountered: Error 1406. Could not write value Installer to key \Software\ESRI\Portal for ArcGIS. Verify that you have sufficient Access to that key, or contact your support personnel. I found an old posting from Esri about this issue related to installing an old version of ArcCatalog, and it suggests that it can be resolved by disabling our antivirus software during the installation--and we would rather not attempt that. Has anyone else encountered this error? And what is the solution. I'm not entirely sure what folder I need access to. We are using Chef, but the same error comes up when manually installing, as well.

Just to clarify, are you suggesting we could go down to one account that manages the servers AND acts as an administrative account? Or are you saying we can go down to one service account AND one administrative account?

We have a distributed deployment consisting of 5 machines: Portal with WA Hosting Server with WA and Data Store GIS Server 1 GIS Server 2 GIS Server 3 One method would be to create domain accounts for the Portal for ArcGIS Account, and then a seperate ArcGIS Server account for each of the four server machines. This would result in 5 domain accounts that act to maintain the machines. If I create one domain account that can access all of these elements, would there be any consequence (i.e. DOMAIN\arcgis)? Ultimately, the Servers get federated with the portal, if that makes any difference. Likewise, can I do something similar with the site administrator accounts, ultimately leaving us with two accounts to maintain (one for server/portal accounts, one for initial administration).

So I'm not sure if this was the Web Context URL or simply the name of the web adaptor being incorrect, but the solution was to go to the portaladmin page on portal, navigate to the web adaptor properties, add "/edit" to the end of the URL, and update the name of the web adaptor from the server name to the domain name used by portal. That resolved all of the issues! Thank you! Your comments put me on the right track.

It looks like just changing the web_context_url didn't trick portal (or there some deeper process going on in Chef that makes a Web Adaptor a requirement for proper federation). So I'm installing a Web Adaptor as part of the run list, and I'll let you know how that goes. randall_williams-esristaff, I take that back. I forgot to specify the port. That worked! Thanks!
