Hi Olivia, Thanks for looking into it. If you've deauthorized/ reauthorized and there's no option to repair your license, it's not sounding like a corrupt license issue, but we can absolutely investigate and find out how far along in the launch process ArcMap is making it by grabbing a log file: Launch Command Prompt as an administrator Go to Start and type CMD into the search CMD should be the first result in the list-- right-click > Run as administrator Change directory to ArcGIS for Desktop install location Default install location for 64bit machines is C:\Program Files (x86)\ArcGIS\Desktop10.3\bin Type: cd\Program Files (x86)\ArcGIS\Desktop10.3\bin Press enter Run ArcMap log command Type arcmap.exe /log Press enter Launch ArcMap Grab the log Go to C:\Program Files (x86)\ArcGIS\Desktop10.3\bin\ArcMap.log Attach the log to your reply and I'll take a look at it, to see if we can't pin down why the crash is happening. Thanks again! Kirsten

Thanks for this info Olivia. In ArcGIS Administrator, if you click the Desktop folder, do you see an "Authorize Now" button or a "Repair" button? If you see the Repair option is available, clicking this button will launch the software repair wizard--Select the option to "repair over the internet." Attempt to launch ArcMap. Let me know if you have any trouble, or if the Repair option is not available. Thanks!

Hi Olivia, Thanks for your post. I have a few questions for you: I looked into your Support case and I can see you mention that you've been running Windows 10 for about a month-- 1. Have you always received this serious application error since upgrading Windows? Or were you able to open ArcMap on your Windows 10 machine at some point? 2. Are you attempting to launch a specific MXD and receiving this error? Or does the error occur when attempting to launch any MXD (including blank MXDs)? The crash still occurs after deauthorizing/ reauthorizing your license, is this correct? Thanks! Kirsten

Hi Matthew. Thanks for your question. It is not possible to import your map anno groups from ArcMap into Pro. However, as Sona mentions the import log generated when you import an MXD, should include a warning or error message that explains this. I've since logged the following bug to include the appropriate warning messages in this log going forward, to tell users that map anno is not supported: BUG-000089961 - Importing an MXD containing map annotation, does not produce the expected error message in the ArcGIS Pro import results notification. Since it is possible to display geodatabase annotation in Pro, you can Convert graphics to features in ArcMap and add the resulting annotation feature classes to your map in Pro as a workaround. I hope this is helpful!

Thanks for the screen shot Sona. Happy to help. So, I tested with the import workflow to see if I could reproduce the issue with an existing Layout, but I don't have any trouble seeing updates in the legend when I change transparency for layer symbols in my map. If you turn your legend on and off in the Contents Pane, do you see any change? Also, are any of the Beats symbols updating in the Legend when you apply transparency?

Hi Sona, Thanks for your post. No such option exists in Pro, because once transparency is applied to a layer's symbology in a map, this should be automatically reflected in the legend. Here is an example. Is the map that you're updating, the same as the map frame in your Layout? There are a couple way's to check this: In Layout view, right-click the map frame and go to Properties. On the Element pane under Options > General look to see that the Name is the map name + Map Frame: Or, if you right-click the map frame in Layout view and choose Activate to activate the map, go to the Contents pane and right-click your layer symbol > Color Properties, and change the transparency. Once transparency is applied, click the Layout tab > close activation. Observe the Legend-- does it reflect this change in transparency? If so, its likely that the map you were updating originally is not the same as the map in your Layout. I hope this is helpful. If you continue to see issues with the updating of legends, let us know and we'll continue to investigate. Thanks, Kirsten

Hi Lotte, You were definitely on the right track! From Fields View, uncheck the fields that you don't want to be visible from the attribute table. While still in Fields View, if you've made any changes, you'll notice that the Save button on the Fields tab in the ribbon will be enabled. Click Save and then open the attribute table of your layer to see the changes take effect. I hope this helps! Best, Kirsten

Hi Michelle, I'm happy to help. One of the major differences between the drive time and straight line distance measurements (that I can think would cause this behavior) is that one (drive time) requires that you're logged in and have the appropriate privileges while the other (straight line) does not. Since I'm able to run the tool for drive time at 1.1 and produce the expected output, it doesn't appear to be an issue with the update (at least not with my data and configuration). However, this doesn't mean we can't investigate further to rule out data, environment and/ or org specific variables as the cause of this issue on your end. I'm going to suggest that we get a Support ticket created for you. Feel free to inbox me (kpinkston@esri.com) your contact information, and I'll have a Support analyst contact you directly so we can take a closer look. Thanks! Kirsten

Hi Michelle, Thanks for this info. I should have clarified that the Network Analyst (NA) extension and the ArcGIS Online Network Analysis privileges are not one and the same-- The NA extension license unlocks additional NA functionality for Pro on your machine. The Summarize Nearby tool is included with the core software and does not require the NA extension to run, however, certain ArcGIS Online privileges are required to run it. Based on the privileges that your AGOL administrator has granted to you, you may or may not have access to all of the capabilities of your organization (for example, your admin can decide that you're not allowed to run analysis). Your administrator will need to consider the type of role you have been assigned to ensure that you have the necessary privileges to run analysis: If you have been assigned a User role, then you will not have the ability to run analysis, or if a custom role has been created and assigned to you and this role does not include the ability to perform network analysis, then your admin will need to either make you a Publisher, an Admin, or create a custom role that allows you to perform network analysis. The Configure Roles help topic goes into detail for creating roles. Let me know if you have any questions. Thanks! Kirsten

Hi Michelle. Thanks for posting. I ran a quick test in ArcGIS Pro 1.1 based on your steps, and I was able to successfully produce an output which was added to my map and the geodatabase I designated. However, I considered that drive-time analysis requires that I'm logged in with my ArcGIS Online organizational account and that I need Network Analysis privileges to run this tool, so I also ran the following tests: 1. While logged out of ArcGIS Online, the tool does not complete and I receive the following error as expected, "this tool requires you to be logged into ArcGIS Online". 2. However, if I run this tool while logged in, but without Network Analysis privileges (I gave myself a viewer role in ArcGIS Online), the tool completes exactly as you describe, and no output is produced in the map or the geodatabase. I suspect that this might be the cause of the issue you're experiencing. Please confirm with your ArcGIS Online administrator, that the user's attempting to run Summarize Nearby are granted roles with the Perform Analysis privilege (for custom roles, specifically 'perform network analysis tasks such as create drive-time areas') and I believe this should resolve the issue. I've confirmed that attempting to run this tool without Network Analysis privileges should produce an error, thus I've submitted a bug and its being considered for the 1.2 release later this year. I hope this is helpful! Please let me know if adding the Network Analysis privilege resolves the issue. If not, we'll get a ticket logged with Support. Thanks! Kirsten

Thanks for this question, Dave. There are some great answers above-- also informing your boss and colleagues that the ArcMap and ArcGIS Pro applications can run on the same machine at the same time, might be helpful. If you're already running 64bit machines, it's easy to get started with Pro, learn about what it has to offer and incorporate it where it fits best for your workflows overtime. A lot of great functionality is planned for future releases of Pro, so suggesting that your colleagues install it and take advantage of the in-app automatic update notifications, will also give them immediate access to the latest functionality as it comes. Of course, identifying the functionality that might benefit your current workflows and needs is likely what your boss is looking for (i.e. maybe it's the ability to view multiple maps and layouts in one application for example, the ability to publish webmaps to ArcGIS Online and/ or Portal, or maybe the use of Tasks to capture best practice workflows and improve efficiency, etc.). What are your primary uses of ArcGIS for Desktop (ArcMap) currently?

Hello Kelvin, I'm glad to help. It appears that you maybe logged into ArcGIS Online with a public account (your personal Esri account or an account you created). See below: You will need to log into your organizational account to gain access to your ArcGIS Pro licenses. I can see in our system that you are the admin for an organizational account that is activated and that your Pro licenses have been provisioned to the org. I have sent you a personal message with your username associated with this org. Once logged into your org, you will see a home page with the "My Organization" option: If you click this option, the Manage Licenses option should be available. If you are still having trouble logging in and seeing these options with the organizational username, I would recommend that you Contact Tech Support at your distributor. I hope this helps! Thanks, Kirsten

Hello Kelvin, Thank you for your inquiry. It looks like you have an ArcGIS Online organization activated from what I can see in our system. Are you an administrator of the org, or do you know who the administrator of your org is? If not, please feel free to Contact Tech Support and we'll be able to help you find that information. If you're an administrator of your org, log into ArcGIS.com and look for a Manage Licenses option: If you don't see this option, you will need to reach out to customer service at your distributor, to gain access to your Pro licenses. Then once the licenses are available to you, the Manage Licenses option will be available and you will be able to assign yourself and other named users in your org, Pro licenses. I've included a link to the help topic that describes managing ArcGIS Pro licenses via ArcGIS Online for your reference. I hope this is helpful! Please let us know if you have any further questions. Thanks! Kirsten
