Yes, as Justin Roberts has explained above, there is a known issue at 1.3 that requires installing Microsoft patch KB2533623 to resolve crashes on startup. We've added an announcement to the ArcGIS Pro space and additional details about this crash can also be found on the Esri Support website here. Please install this patch and let us know if you continue to experience the crash. Thanks!

Hi Joshua! Thanks for your questions. I can elaborate more on our plans for updating and releasing ArcGIS Pro, now and moving forward. As mentioned above, there are two ways to update ArcGIS Pro and both are benefits of staying current on maintenance: All users with a current Named User AGOL account have access to the in-app update notification mechanism Downloads for major releases, minor and patch updates can all be accessed by folks with permissions to My Esri We're aware that there might be cases where an organization opts to control updates, preventing end users from downloading and installing updates from the in-app notification-- at which point those with access to My Esri can download the update and push it out to the rest of their users. Downloading updates from My Esri is also the intended workflow for those with concurrent use licensing. There are no plans to make ArcGIS Pro updates available on the Support website at this time. I hope this helps to clarify our plans. Thanks again! Best, Kirsten

A new patch update of ArcGIS Pro 1.3 is now available for download from My Esri. For those running earlier versions of ArcGIS Pro, you can also update your existing ArcGIS Pro software from the in-app update notification. For details about the in-app update notification, check out the following blog: How to Apply ArcGIS Pro Software Updates. ArcGIS Pro 1.3.1 is a targeted patch release that fixes the following issues: Certain large multipatch feature classes cause the Create Scene Layer Package tool to crash, or complete with missing textures (BUG-000097551). ArcGIS Pro 1.3 crashes on Windows 7 machines when running the Calculate Field tool on a feature service (BUG-000097870). ArcGIS Pro may crash when closing a map if its rotated after performing certain edits (BUG-000098376). When aggregating data, Optimized Hot Spot Analysis only honors the number of unique input point locations rather than the actual count of points (BUG-000098380).

Hi Tom, Checking in to see if this issue was resolved or if you still need assistance. Typically speaking the error message that you're experiencing indicates that Technical Support will need to perform a license reset for you. If your license was checked offline, an ArcGIS Online administrator will not be able to revoke the license in this state. I hope this helps! Thanks! Best, Kirsten

ArcGIS Pro is designed to integrate seamlessly with your Web GIS, whether your portal is ArcGIS Online or Portal for ArcGIS. ArcGIS Pro uses your active portal’s settings when possible for a consistent experience in ArcGIS Pro and your portal. This means that your experience in ArcGIS Pro, from your basemap gallery to your utility services are determined by your portal. For many users, strict security requirements mean users have no access to the internet which includes the services available through ArcGIS Online. If you are working in an environment that is disconnected from the internet, additional considerations should be taken into account when installing ArcGIS Pro and setting up Portal for ArcGIS. By ensuring the following settings are set correctly you will avoid degraded performance and have the full suite of capabilities available in ArcGIS Pro at your fingertips. NOTE: Making changes to a portal’s settings requires administrative access. Disable Automatic updates By default, ArcGIS Pro automatically checks for updates on startup. To prevent these checks from occuring, you can either turn this setting off during installation or through ArcGIS Pro after installation. Disabling automatic updates during installation You can either install ArcGIS Pro silently, setting the command line parameter CHECKFORUPDATESATSTARTUP to 0 or after installation by setting the registry key HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Esri\ArcGISPro\Settings to 0. For step-by-step instructions, see Install ArcGIS Pro silently using command line parameters. Disabling automatic updates within ArcGIS Pro If have not opened a project, click About ArcGIS Pro. If you have opened a project, click the Project tab. Click About. Uncheck Check for updates on startup. Help System By default, ArcGIS Pro launches the online help system. When working in a disconnected environment access help available offline by doing the following: Install the Offline Help from My Esri. If have not opened a project, click About ArcGIS Pro. If you have opened a project, click the Project tab. Click Options. Click General in the Application section. Click Offline help from your computer (requires local help installation) in the Help system section. Basemaps By default, ArcGIS Pro loads the default basemap specified by the active portal when a new map is opened. The default basemap configuration in Portal for ArcGIS uses basemaps hosted on ArcGIS Online which are not available in a disconnected environment. You optionally change the basemap settings at an organizational level in your portal or at the Project level in ArcGIS Pro. Change the default basemap for an organization To ensure that all users in your organization have the same mapping experience, create a custom basemap gallery in your portal. All users that sign into your portal through ArcGIS Pro will have the same basemap options available as the portal map viewer. Create a public group to use for the basemap gallery. Create and share basemaps to the group. Set the basemap gallery and default basemap. For step-by-step instructions, see Customize Basemaps. Change the default basemap option in a specific Project ArcGIS Pro allows you to change the default basemap of new maps and scenes within a project. Use this option if you do not have administrative access in your portal. If have not opened a project, click About ArcGIS Pro. If you have opened a project, click the Project tab. Click Options. Click Map and Scene in the Application section. Choose either Custom basemap or None for the Basemap option. Click OK. Figure 1: Setting the Basemap option in ArcGIS Pro. Elevation service Elevation surfaces represent height values at every point across their extent and are used to determine the height of layers in a scene. In ArcGIS Pro, the elevation service used by new scenes is the default elevation service set in the active portal. Any image service that uses a Limited Error Raster Compression (LERC) can be set as the default elevation service in a portal. For step-by-step instructions, see Configure default elevation service. Utility services There are a number of additional utility services that can be set for your portal; geocoding, routing, network utility, and GeoEnrichment in particular can be used in ArcGIS Pro. By defining these services in your portal, you can ensure consistent results across your organization. If these are not set, local datasets can be used instead. For step-by-step instructions, see Configure utility services. By modifying a few settings in ArcGIS Pro and in your portal, you are able to maintain a streamlined experience between your Web GIS and ArcGIS Pro. For a detailed guide to configuring a disconnected deployment of Portal for ArcGIS, see Configure a disconnected deployment.

Hi Ricardo. Thanks for your post! We received a recent call into Tech Support regarding this error\ behavior and determined that specific anti-virus settings were preventing existing projects from opening. As a test, can you disable your anti-virus software and attempt to open the projects in question? Thanks!

Hi Paul. Thank you for sharing your experience. Customer feedback is the primary driver of ArcGIS Pro software development for the Desktop team. If you’re interested in speaking about your thoughts and sharing your crash dumps with me, I’d be happy to setup a call to help investigate. As other folks on the thread have explained, ArcGIS Pro was designed to address long-standing customer feedback regarding the need for a 64-bit Desktop application, multiple layouts in a single project, and 2D/ 3D integration, among many other requests. The interface design is different from that of ArcMap, with the intent to make your maps and layouts the focus of the project. There will be an additional option to change the theme of the interface in a coming release of the software that might address your feedback, so definitely keep an eye out and let us know what you think. I’ve found that the most effective way to get started with Pro, is to import your existing MXDs and attempt your workflows with the use of the contextual, ribbon-based interface. Many customers have expressed that the experience is different from ArcMap, but after spending some time in the ArcGIS Pro application with their own maps and data, the benefits (many as mentioned throughout this thread) and ease-of-use becomes more and more obvious. There are also some great online resources available that can help you to become familiarized with the interface and to migrate your existing GIS work. Some suggested Help Topics: Migrate content ArcGIS Pro quick-start tutorials For ArcMap users Terminology and user interface reference guide Supported data types and items Free online Web Course: Getting Started with ArcGIS Pro Learn ArcGIS Tutorial: Get Started with ArcGIS Pro Please continue to provide your feedback here and in the ArcGIS Ideas space. If you have any questions please feel free to personal message me. Thanks!

![]() Much like the old ArcGIS Ideas site, the new home page will feature the most recent and top ideas that have been submitted and more. The GeoNet platform also offers new and exciting features. Here are the top three to look forward to in the ArcGIS Ideas Space:Updated Categories – Ideas will be organized based on our current products and capabilities, to make submitting and browsing easier.Revamped Statuses – New statuses will be implemented to improve the visibility of the life cycle of an idea. They will describe the varying stages of an idea's life from the time it's submitted to the time it's reviewed, considered, and potentially implemented, etc.Collaboration Tools – It will be possible to @mention people, places and content across the Esri Community to directly link an idea or comment to another entity in Geonet. Including additional authors on your idea will also be possible to foster collaboration with your peers. Keep an eye out for additional blogs and content to get better acquainted with this exciting new space. On May 25th, all existing content on the current ArcGIS Ideas site will be read-only. Following this date, you will be redirected to the Esri Community when accessing http://ideas.arcgis.com. Please continue to share your ideas and feedback with us. We want to hear from you and we’re thrilled about this opportunity to introduce ArcGIS Ideas to the Esri Community! Kirsten P. - ArcGIS Desktop Advocacy Lead |
