I have been able to successfully work with the one of the collector template found here; http://www.arcgis.com/home/group.html?owner=esri_collector&title=Collector%20Templates I published as a hosted feature layer and utilized in the Collector for ArcGIS app and then downloaded the records collector into a fgdb in AGOL. I have access to ArcGIS Server locally but I have not been able to successfully publish the service definition as a map service in this environment. 2 questions 1) How do I edit a service definition file? For example, add or remove fields from the service. 2) How can I move the source of the service to an enterprise data and out of the hosted web layer environment. For example, I want to use an existing collector template but I wanted the source data to be located locally (enterprise database) rather than in the hosted AGOL environment. Basically I want to take an existing Collector template and modify and customize it. Thanks for your help, Susan

How do I get rid of the 'No valid area' and the ${SHAPE.AREA} text that appears in my 'Collect New Feature' pop out? This occurs for my line and polygons features. Source is a feature service hosted by ArcGIS Server 10.2.2. Thanks, Susan

Good to know. If we go the AGOL hosted route for publishing feature services, what would be the best way to import the information collected back to the enterprise database? Thanks very much for your help.

Hi Jake, Are you saying in order to view the records collected in the Collector app back in the source enterprise geodatabase, I cannot use my organization's ArcGIS Online Hosted Service to publish as a feature service, but rather I need to publish to ArcGIS server directly? If you can clarify that would be great. Thanks for your help!

Thanks Jake. This is very helpful. You mention "With a Hosted Service, a copy of the data is uploaded to ArcGIS Online, so it is independent of the data you have locally" So if a user adds new data from the Collector app, how do I view this information in the underlying source enterprise geodatabase? I noticed when I sync, the records that were collected in the field do not appear in my enterprise geodatabase (they appear in AGOL web map). How can I view the records generated using the Collector app in our enterprise geodatabase?

Can you stop and start rest services published to ArcGIS online? i know this is possible when ArcGIS Server is installed locally. I am just wondering, when you publish map services to your AGOL subscription account, how can you stop and start a map service? Thanks, Susan

I was wondering...how can I display particular records in a related table published as a feature service? For example, I have a polygon that is related to many species. How can I just show the related records for species "X" when a user selects the polygon? Is this possible? I have tried applying a definition query to the related tables in ArcMap before publishing as a feature service, but this does not seem to affect the records available for display within the feature service Any thoughts on how I can go about achieving this? Thanks!

I would prefer not have an underscore displayed in the map layer name (source of the underscore would be the map service name). Can I rename my map layer names in Web AppBuilder? I know I can do this in AGOL. Thanks, Sussan
