Thanks for the wish lists 🙂 About the pan and zoom in/out, I'm still curious to why an application would need buttons for those specific actions. Users can navigate the map by dragging the map (pan) and using the zoom in and out buttons of the navigation slider, as well as double-clicking to zoom in, or using the mouse wheel to zoom in/out. Consumer mapping sites like Bing Maps, Google Maps, and MapQuest all seem to work fine without specific navigation "states". I'm wondering why some developers want them and others don't. Is it because of legacy issues? Are your clients asking for it because their old sites had it, and/or they are used to it from other applications like ArcMap? just curious 🙂

When you talk about "navigation controls" - what do you really mean? 🙂 Is it "just" the Next/Previous functionality, like Josh mentions? What about initial extent? Or full (some sort of max) extent? Which of them are most important (and thus what do you think should be our priority)? Are you asking for Robert's buttons a la http://gis.calhouncounty.org/flexviewer2.0 ? 🙂

Matt, the CSS requires compilation into SWF. There are two different downloads for Flex Viewer: the ready-to-use, pre-compiled version, and the "source code" (which requires the code to be compiled). The CSS files are only included in latter because they need to be compiled into SWF files. On http://help.arcgis.com/en/webapps/flexviewer/index.html the box on the right side has download links for both. So to summarize, in order to change the CSS you need the "source code" as well as a way to compile that source code. The easiest way is to use Flash Builder. If you're not a developer or "techie" this might be a bit challenging, but still possible 🙂 Hope this helps, Bjorn

Matt, the CSS files used are very different between the Sample Flex Viewer and the 2.0 beta of the ArcGIS Viewer for Flex. You will be much better of using the appropriate CSS files than taking 1.x SFV CSS files and trying to "fix" them for the 2.0 beta.

The initial extent coordinates are in the same projection as the basemaps. If you're using the current base maps from ArcGIS Online, then those coordinates need to be in Web Mercator. To help you figure out these numbers, we've added an extent helper: http://help.arcgis.com/en/webapps/flexviewer/help/extenthelper/flexviewer_extenthelper.html Note that this will only help if you are using Web Mercator base maps. Hope this helps, and thanks for letting us know where the documentation needs to be clearer 🙂

Generally speaking both 1.x and 2.x API works great with any REST-enabled ArcGIS Server, i.e. 9.3 and later. However, certain functionality is only in certain version of the server. For example, you need ArcGIS Server 10 for editing. The Bing Maps changes are a bit special. For the Bing Maps, Microsoft have changed the authentication scheme, so in the 2.0 API (and AGS 10) we updated the API to support the new Bing Maps key-based Authentication. The only "dependency" for Bing on AGS 9.3.1 is how you get your token/key thru ArcGIS Manager - http://help.arcgis.com/en/webapi/flex/help/index.html#ve_gettingstarted.htm

To submit bugs or enhancements, the best way is to report it to ESRI Support - http://support.esri.com/en/. This also allows you to keep track of it's progress, as well as someone from ESRI to follow-up with you in case of questions related to your bug/enhancement/suggestion. A second option is to submit it at http://ideas.arcgis.com. This allows other users to "vote" for it as well. A third option is to post in the forum and hope that someone on the development team see's it.

You do not need ArcGIS Server 10 to use the Feature Layer. A feature layer can come from either a MapServer layer (9.3 or 10) or a FeatureService layer (only 10). For a 9.3 service the symbols from the server will not be available. This is a "10" feature and what that doc page is trying to explain.

Yes, I think the one for API would be both for "API only users" as well as for "API use based on viewer code".

Why is it called a "Code Gallery" if there isn't actual code available? Is there going to be something equivalent to the old code gallery where you could sort, rate, comment, and download actual code? Joshua, some entries have code available (for example the source code for the Flex Viewer). It is up to each developer if they want to include the source code (or not), or if they want to provide a working link to it (or not). It is similar to the old code gallery in that you can sort, rate, comment and download actual code (if it was uploaded). Click on the "Details" below the thumbnail and you should be able rate, comment, and download the code (if available). We decided to keep the name as "Code Gallery" because "Code and Application Gallery" seemed a bit long 🙂
