FYI: For the beta it is correct that you need to download the source code for the viewer, then use Flash Builder to compile the CSS into SWF. However, in version 2.1 of the ArcGIS Viewer for Flex (once it is released) you will be able to set the main colors in the main configuration file.

Ruth, another way of finding the "troublemaker" is to look at the service directory page for each map service. At the bottom of the page is a list of "Supported Operations". In the examples below, the first one does not support Identify, but the second does support Identify. Example #1 http://server.arcgisonline.com/ArcGIS/rest/services/World_Terrain_Base/MapServer lists: Supported Operations: Export Map Generate KML Example #2 http://server.arcgisonline.com/ArcGIS/rest/services/World_Topo_Map/MapServer lists: Supported Operations: Export Map Identify Find Generate KML

If you upgrade to 2.x of the API, you could take advantage of the different modes of the FeatureLayer to either get all features (too slow in your case) or to only get the ones that are in the current extent ("on demand"). If using 1.3, the following sample might be useful since it's doing a basic version of the "on demand" functionality: http://resources.esri.com/help/9.3/arcgisserver/apis/flex/samples/index.html?sample=ShowPointsWithinMapExtent

How can i control the size (width and Height) of the htmlpopup, when i have lot of text? In the beta this is not configurable. We're planning to improve this for version 2.1 of the ArcGIS Viewer for Flex. Why I can not use Firefox to post on this forum? (thats one of the reason i use flex and not JS).. I use Firefox 3 without any problems on this forum. If it doesn't work for you, please report it at http://forums.arcgis.com/forums/81-Resource-Center-Site-Feedback

You have to specify the map extent in the same spatial reference as your Map. If you are using a map that is in Web Mercator, then your extent also need to be in that coordinate system.

FYI, you don't need ArcGIS 10 or Flash Builder 4 to start testing the 2.0 Flex API. What you would need is to use the 2.0 SWC and compile your apps with the Flex 4 SDK (which can be done in Flex Builder 3).

FYI: the API Reference for FeatureLayer and FeatureCollection has been updated today to better explain feature collections. Hopefully the new information will be helpful: http://help.arcgis.com/en/webapi/flex/apiref/com/esri/ags/layers/FeatureLayer.html http://help.arcgis.com/en/webapi/flex/apiref/com/esri/ags/layers/supportClasses/FeatureCollection.html

Tom, support for htmlPopup is NOT likely in the next release of the ArcGIS Viewer for Flex, but it is something that might be in a subsequent release.

Would you mind sharing the URL to your (problem) bookmark xml file, or attaching it here? The number of bookmarks in it shouldn't matter...

Hi Alison, there should be some difference between the successful requests and the failing one. Does fiddler show the all as Result:200 or is there any 500 errors (usually shows in red to indicate failure). Either the http response code (200/500 etc) or the actual response should show some difference between good and bad times 🙂 Note that different browsers will have slightly different request/response, so for best comparison use the same browser.

The first thing would be to find what response you are getting from the server. You could use httpfox, fiddler, charles etc to look at the http response for the crossdomain request. It is possible that there is a general web traffic problem, or an intermittent error on the ESRI server, or maybe something else along the route from the server to your browser. Do you get an error when going straight to the crossdomain file? Or only when it's asked for by the application? Is your web connection stable?

Yes, as long as you compile against Flex 4 SDK, you can use whatever IDE you want. "it is possible to still use Flex Builder 3 if you add Flex 4 SDK support" http://help.arcgis.com/en/webapi/flex/help/index.html#migrating.htm

Do you know of a way to convert this ??on-the-fly?? The Flex API doesn't directly convert features on-the-fly. However, there are two ways of converting from one projection to another. 1) If it's between geographic and web mercator, use the WebMercatorUtil class http://help.arcgis.com/en/webapi/flex/apiref/index.html?com/esri/ags/utils/WebMercatorUtil.html&com/esri/ags/utils/class-list.html to project the geometries. This is all done client-side. 2) Use the GeometryService project method to project geometries between any coordinate system. This will send the request to the server which will project it. Note if using the 1.x API, the GeometryService took graphics, in 2.x it takes geometries instead.
