I've discovered the problem with blank fields appearing when you edit and resend a survey or copy existing data to a new survey from your sent box is due to using the pulldata function in the calculation columns of those fields in your XLS. Work-Around: This is not ideal and creates extra steps and confusion, but this will solve the problem of data collectors seeing blank attribute fields when trying to edit existing surveys. Create a new survey in connect using your existing survey XLS. Name it differently such as "ForEditingOnly" or something that will warn field crews this should only be used with existing data and not to collect new features. Now go through and delete all of your formulas and pulldata functions from the calculations column. Delete any rows that are calculation field types. Delete any relevant statements on fields or groups that are based on those calculations. Now go to the settings page in the XLS and enter in the form id, instance name, and submission url from your original published survey. This will bind matching fields to the database results collected in your original survey. Publish your new survey (no new feature service is created) and load it onto your field devices. Users should continue to collect and submit data through the original survey. Now if they need to edit, they can go into this new survey and refresh their inbox. The same records should appear. Open up a record to edit. All of that missing data is now back (does not fix issue with repeats).

I have not used Crowdsource but I wouldn't be the one making changes. We want to make this easy for field crews to only use 1 app. The survey in question does not have multiple repeats (only 1 for pictures), and the questions that appear blank when making a copy are not within repeats.

Thanks Andrew, Questions are within groups but not repeats. There is a repeat within the survey for pictures that is also contained within its own closed group. This also pertains to the Sent box and not the inbox, though now that you mentioned it I went back and brought up the same surveys from the Inbox and have the same results - blank fields.

From the Sent box Copy the sent data to a new survey: I want to replicate surveys but when I create a copy from my completed survey many of the questions do not carry over the attributes. My new copy has blank fields that should be attributed. Edit and resend survey: I need to go back later and make changes to previously submitted surveys. Same problem as above where many fields that were previously attributed are now blank again. Where did my data go? I checked the database the survey writes to and it looks like the data is there for submitted surveys, but to field crews filling out surveys, it looks like the data is lost and they now have to go back and redo all of those fields. What might be causing these issues?

I'm in a similar situation using Survey for data collection to go into an asset management system. That is a loaded question though and probably no easy answer - but I like the idea. We pulled existing data out of our asset management system to csv format and use pulldata functions for identifying existing assets and updating incomplete attribute information while also collecting new features. As far as I am aware, you cannot dynamically read in that data from an ERP system into an existing published Survey. I don't know if it is possible to automate the process of pushing survey results out and back into an ERP system, though I am curious if anyone is doing this as it would save us a lot of time on the back end.

Carlos, Can you back up a bit and explain what your issue was and what clearing Chromes browsing history did for Survey? Are you saying that fixed an issue with not being able to start a new survey or preview completed surveys? Are these surveys you collected on your machine using a already published and hosted Survey in AGOL? It sounds like a different issue then the schema not appearing in Survey Connect before a survey gets published. I'm trying to understand the issue and what the connection to chrome history is.

Is there any way to tell Survey to ignore those commas or to use a different file format or calculation to pulldata from? I have data formatted to work with other systems that Id rather not have to change now and put back together later. Why have a calculation field requiring the column heading name if its going to ignore that and allow a delimiter to take precedence? This not only adds incorrect values for that question, all future questions referencing the same file are now thrown off as well. From that point on, column names used in pulldata functions on future questions are also ignored, and instead Survey continues to break down the previous delimited field.

Thanks Brandon for taking a look. Since I sent that I have remade the survey and made changes to the CSV file so it would be hard to go back and retrace my steps if it had something to do with the csv file. When Survey was trying to pulldata or draw from a select_one list it appeared it was referencing incorrect cells, thus making my "relevant" statements on other questions to not function properly. I don't think cell number would matter since its searching for a value, but I did first notice this issue after I had deleted rows in the survey and choices worksheets. I've seen this with 2 surveys now. I often move rows around within the Survey sheet and make changes to the csv files without issue. Since noticing this problem I no longer delete rows in the Choices worksheet of a survey (I delete values within the rows instead) and I have not experienced the problem since.

I came across this post looking for answers to the same problem. I'm using survey connect 2.5.44. My survey loads, but Schema Preview window is empty. The excel sheet works ok and no errors in connect when saving, but the survey stops functioning properly (for example relevant statements stop working). The update/refresh icon in survey does not fix it, nor does creating a new survey from the existing template. It seems it might have something to do with re-ordering rows (cut/insert cut cells) or adding or deleting rows/columns in the survey or choices worksheet (not required/default columns). Hard to pinpoint, I've done all those things before without issues.

If I try to pull data to fill in select one questions for features that I have partial data for, I can not apply a pull data calculation to a select one question type. If I select a choice in question 1 (any choice selected in question 1 has the same result), it breaks the rest of the survey. I can not continue past question 1 unless I remove the pull data calculation from question 2. select one question 1 = A select one question 2, Calculation: pull data from table A

Thank you I will look into these other methods. How about setting default values to select one questions where most answers are 1 type, but a list of options is still needed? Or using pull data functions with select one? In my case, I need to collect new features, but I also have an incomplete dataset of existing features Id like to auto-populate known attributes for into my survey (many questions are select one). I heard earlier this year these types of functionality were being discussed, just wondering if they are still being looked at as possible future survey enhancements?

I've tried this option but get a converting XLS Form ERROR "There should be choices for this question". I am using a choice filter on this select_one to trigger drop-down lists based on a previously answered question where those answers have defined choice lists. Some answers do not have a list, and in those cases the or_other would be a great solution to having to add an additional "other" field and set relevant conditions on both fields. When I remove my choice filter the or_other works, but is it possible to use or_other in conjunction with select questions that use cascading selects?

Thanks James, Great to see Survey has this functionality, that will be very useful. One follow-up, if only half of my assets have lists I can pull from, can I manually enter text into the same field for those other assets that do not?

I have a large list of assets that have the same field schema but different attributes values. I don't want to create duplicate fields (one for each asset type that asks the same question) to collect data if 1 field works for all assets. Is it possible to use a single select one field that would change the select one options based on an answer to a previous question? Or, add a relevant statement to each value in a list_name? Some way to model what subtypes reading from a selected domain value in arcmap would do. If answer to question 1 = A, question 2 (my select_one question) shows only options from list_name A If answer to question 1 = B, the same question 2 shows only options from list_name B. And so on...
