Hi Brittany Sorry about the issue. This is the expected behavior however because for security reasons in mid 2018 we introduced HTML sanitization into the Story Map apps to bring them into line with the ArcGIS Online support HTML (we do whitelist a small number of other tags in addition to what is in that list to support specific functionality in certain apps, like the hr, source and iframe in Shortlist). These rules kick in for stories created after our mid 2018 release but for backwards compatibility, don't apply to stories created before then. Instead of using h1 could you try using other tags to get a similar formatting look? Rupert

Thanks Adam, once that support ticket comes into the internal bug tracking system, we'll take a look and see what's going on with that. Rupert

Hi Benjamin, the &embed parameter isn't supported for Story Map Journals. Via the Settings dialog in the Map Journal Builder you can turn off the content that appears in the header to make it less conspicuous, such as the 'A Story Map' text, the logo, and the sharing buttons. But you can't turn off the header in a Journal using the &embed like you can in Story Map Tour, Story Map Series, Story Map Shortlist, Story Map Swipe/Spyglass and Story Map Basic. This is because once you proceed beyond the home section of a Journal, the header is automatically used to display the title of the Journal. We do have an enhancement logged to allow the &embed parameter to hide the header in the home section. If that would be useful, or if you would rather &embed let you hide the header in all the sections of a Journal, let us know. Feel free too if you'd like to submit an ArcGIS Idea detailing how you'd prefer it worked. Rupert

One more thing to try is to turn off the default behavior in Shortlist in which the places shown in the tabs are filtering to only show the places in the current map extent. If you turn that behavior off in the Settings dialog all the places will be shown in the tabs at all times, but it may fix the slow speed we are seeing. For example here's a Shortlist featuring 766 places in its single tab. The images are stored in Flickr. The speed is pretty good. They have turned off the default filtering, so the tab shows all the places irrespective of the current map extent. Hi Issac Very sorry about the issue. This is something we have not been able to address easily in the code for Story Map Tour, which is now the oldest one of the Story Map app codebases. This can happen in the Story Map Tour Builder if you move between the places in your tour quite rapidly, especially if you have a large tour and you click on the > button rapidly to get to the point you want to edit. It is fairly easy to tell when it has happened because the Save indicator illuminates to show you that a saveable change has been made, even though you were just moving between your points. If you notice that Save becomes illuminated when you were only browsing through your places in the Builder. we recommend you close that browser tab without saving. The workaround is to not click too rapidly on the < or > buttons in the Builder. Sorry we don't have a better solution to this currently. Rupert

Hi Shawn, thanks for sharing your Shortlist. The initial load speed isn't bad but like you say once you start using it, it can get bogged down. We think this is mainly because of the large number of places in your tabs, especially the middle one. The issue we are seeing is not because of the overall number of places: it occurs when a tab has a large number of places. Shortlist doesn't scale well to that many places in a single tab. Approximately 100 or so places per tab would be a good maximum to aim for. Sorry that the app performance isn't supporting what you'd like to show. Would it be possible to spread your places over more tabs, or perhaps make a separate Shortlist, each containing multiple tabs, for each of your themes. For large datasets, another approach would be to use a Story Map app like Map Series with one tab for each of your themes, each of which shows a web map that contains the places for that theme. Readers would interact with the places by clicking on them and opening popups. This wouldn't give you the Shortlist look and feel but it is very scalable because would just be using the standard web map point/popup functionality. Rupert

Sorry about the issue. If this is shared publicly, could you post the URL of your story? Does the map draw more quickly if you view it directly in ArcGIS Online by opening it up from My Content? (If it is slow to draw in the ArcGIS Online Map Viewer it could be related to other content in the map). Your Shortlist has quite a large number of points per tab, and that can affect app performance. To optimize a Shortlist with a lot of points, we'd recommend unchecking the box in the Settings > General Options that controls whether the places shown in the tabs are filtered to the current extent shown in the map. I'd also make sure that your thumbnail files are small. It sounds like you have already, but thumbnail size can affect load time too, because the tabs show all the thumbnails. Rupert

You may have noticed that the Story Maps Developers' Corner has not been accessible for a couple of weeks. We're sorry about the outage, which was an issue related to an expired security certificate. Anyway, we are back now . Special thanks to those of you who first reported this outage to us. You may notice that the site has a new URL. If you have bookmarked specific posts or linked to them in Geonet posts, etc, those links will get automatically redirected to new URL pattern. About the Story Maps Developers' Corner The Story Maps Developers’ Corner is a great place for developers of all experience levels to learn how to customize and enhance Esri’s open-source Story Map app templates. The Story Maps team has shared many tips and tricks on the Dev Corner since we announced it back in Nov 2015, and we’ve also had contributions from several guest authors. Looking for on-developer info, help and tips on authoring Story Maps? Don't miss the Story Maps section of the ArcGIS Blog. Hi Amanda We've not been able to reproduce what you described on iOS devices. It doesn't mean there's not an issue but we have not seen anything unexpected. We will definitely keep an eye out in case this gets reported by others too. Rupert

Also, can you see your stories in ArcGIS Online My Content or by searching ArcGIS Online? It would be good to establish if they are no longer accessible in general or whether they are somehow not being shown just in My Stories. Rupert

This might be a good one to contact Technical Support about. I'm not aware of any software issues that could cause that. It is possible that they were deleted by someone who had access to them (like your ArcGIS Online Organization Admin or someone else with admin privileges. Rupert

Hi Steve, Could you let us know where you are looking for your Story Maps? So are you in My Stories on the Story Maps website, My Content in ArcGIS Online, or searching for the story in ArcGIS Online? Are the Story Maps themselves actually no longer accessible, or can you access them but not see them in My Stories or My Content? Some things to check: - make sure you are using the same account as before (just in case you have multiple ArcGIS Online accounts) - in My Content in ArcGIS Online, perhaps they are in a folder you've looked at yet. - In My Stories, you won't see self-hosted story maps or entries you may have added manually to ArcGIS Online that point to Story Maps (for example you might have added an item into ArcGIS Online that points at another user's Story Map so that you can include that story in a Gallery. - If you were in My Stories and you got a Page Not Found error, you've not lost any work. Please see: Esri Story Maps - FAQ We'd recommend contacting Esri Tech Support if you can't find your story maps and they could walk you through and look into what happened. Rupert

Hi Catherine, It is possible to configure Story Map Series and Story Map Journal so that the popups in web maps have a 'Zoom To' icon that readers can click to zoom in on the feature, the same as the Zoom To link you see when you view a web map directly. You can do this by adding a CSS style tag into your story: <style>
.esriPopup .actionsPane {
display: block !important;
}
</style> To do this in Map Journal, in the builder, go to the home section, and click the Edit button to start editing that section. In the side panel text editor's toolbar, click the Source icon (second button from the right in the top row of the toolbar). Paste the code above in at the top. Save and then view the story. To do this in Map Series, in the builder, go to the first tab. In the description panel editor's toolbar click the Source icon (second button from the right in the top row of the toolbar). Save and then view the story. This will apply to all the web maps in your Map Journal or Map Series, so you don't need to add that code to every section. The section you add the code to doesn't have to contain a web map. After using the zoom to button in a popup, your readers would have to just click the Home button in the web map to go back to full extent. So it is the same behavior as a viewing a web map outside of a Story Map. Hope that helps. Rupert
