Tobias Fimpel I think the best way to get an answer to this behavior or understand why this is happening, would be to contact Esri Tech Support. Others can give you a logical explanation as to "how it should work", however this may need testing to understand whats going on behind the scenes.

The SQL Server Native Client bit level doesn't depend on the Application, but rather the OS bit level. So, that may not be the issue here. What kind of Authentication are you using to register the database (Windows Authentication or Database Authentication)? Try using a Database Authenticated login and check if you still face this issue.

In very simple terms: Table: Tables created from database end SDE Table: Table created using ArcGIS Desktop Feature Class: These are spatial views. No, the Basic should not be an issue. Create a new copy of that File geodatabase from ArcCatalog and then try.

What kind of geodatabase are you working with -- File gdb, SDE gdb...? The Feature Class whose schema you are trying to modify, is that being used by anyone else when you are trying this? Make sure that nobody else is accessing that Feature class and then try again.

Torbjørn Dalløkken I just received an update. It appears to be a glitch with the System Requirements webpage. SQL Server 2014 is still very much supported with ArcGIS 10.2.1 and 10.2.2.

Torbjørn Dalløkken That link was again modified on 3/11/2015, which is after my post and SQL Server 2014 was removed from the list. I don't have a reason as to why it was removed as of now. However, will surely post back here when I have an update.
