I contacted ESRI and figured out the problem. All I needed to do was turn off "Use Hierarchy" which generalized the polygons, as well as changing the polygon generation to "Detailed" instead of the default "Generalized".

It looks like the polygon barrier does affect the service area, but not completely. Some of the service area still bleeds over into the polygon barrier. I've attached a screenshot to show this.

Does anyone know if it possible to generate polygon barrier for a service area using Network Analyst? I've created a polygon barrier that works when creating a new route using Network Analyst, but the service area polygon that is generated is not affected by the barrier. I have the barrier has a restriction so shouldn't the barrier keep the service area polygon from entering into it? Any help is greatly appreciated!

Hello GeoNet community, I am working with model builder and have a question in regards to automatically populating fields based on input data. For example, when running the Kernel Density tool, when you input points it automatically generates and shows you the output cell size for the raster it is creating. It says that when the environment is not set, the cell size is the shorter of the width or height of the output extent in the output spatial reference, divided by 250. In the model that I made, it also uses the kernel density tool, but when I enter points the value for the output cell size does not automatically show up. Does anyone know how to calculate and show up automatically in my model when the input points are chosen. I understand it is running a calculation to auto-populate that field, but how do I set that up in my model? Thank you everyone for your help!

Thank you for the response Ian. I tried checking the box that says match tied records but it is still returning some records though with a score well over 78. I've attached another image.

Hello! I am using ArcMap 10.2 and I am trying to geocode a table of addresses and many of them are not matching even though they have scores much higher than the "Minimum match score". For example, one of my addresses has a match score of 95.46 and my minimum match score is a 78. Still this address is returning unmatched, and choosing Rematch Automatically doesn't fix it either. I even saw a few addresses that had scores of 100, but still come back unmatched. Does anybody know why these addresses are coming back unmatched, even though they meet the minimum match score? I would appreciate any help! Thank you!

There are a lot of online resources for GIS. A basic overview of GIS is found on ESRI's website at What is GIS If you have access to ArcGIS, there are several universities/organizations that have free tutorials on how to do basic functions online. One example is the Learning ArcGIS tutorials on the Pennsylvania Geospatial Data Clearinghouse: Tutorial - ArcGIS This tutorial is using a little older of a version of ArcGIS, but the general concepts and tools should be the same. Hope these help!

When enabling time on a layer and displaying the data with the time slider, is there any option to display the data simply based on time and not necessarily the date? When I look at the Field Format, it looks like all options involve year and day. I want the time to step through each hour of the day and show events regardless of the date they occured (all 7a.m. events during a year, all 8a.m. events during a year, etc). I also want to display dynamic text that shows just the time and not the date. Any help is greatly appreciated. Thanks!

Are you simply using "Add Data" in ArcMap or are you bringing it in through a tool? You might want to try using the "Excel to table" tool in the ArcToolbox and see if that works. I know we have had issues with X/Y data and using the tool has worked. Just an idea.

Layer files don't contain data so these file types cannot be exported. It contains a reference to the data and the symbology to draw it, but not the actual data. I believe to export the data it would need to be a layer package. A layer package contains the layer file as well as the shapefile it references. A lot of agencies will make .lyr files available, that way the user cannot edit the data but only view it. Hope this helps!

Hi David, So for historic traffic data, you need to get StreetMap Premium Advanced? I only have StreetMap (just the basic one) and I thought it used historic traffic data based on the fact when using Network Analyst the option to choose a time was enabled, but when I tested it I received the same results for service areas for different times. I am not able to his historic traffic data and therefore use Network Analyst based on different times right? I believe we are looking at getting HERE data from NOKIA soon so hopefully that will have historic traffic data with it (and network datasets already made too!) Thanks

I just started using Network Analyst and am fairly new to networks. I have been able to use the StreetMap network data that comes with the ArcGIS install disks to use the Network Analyst extension. I noticed however that the drive-times it was generating in Illinois were a little high compared to Google Maps. I looked at the associated street file and noticed that Illinois speed limits are listed as 65mph. This just changed in 2014 to 70mph and the data is from 2013. What is the best way (is there any way) to change the speed limit field (I believe it is the MPH_GRP field in the SDC Edge Source 3 file in the StreetMap data). If not, is there anyway to compensate in the network for the changed speed limit. Like I said, I am fairly new to network datasets and am only using the one that is already created from StreetMap data. I haven't "successfully" created my own yet. I appreciate any help. Thanks!

Great! Thanks for the help. I also found out you can do it by creating routes and then bringing in the table of crashes and displaying by route. I found out how to do it that way from this thread: http://forums.arcgis.com/threads/75209-Roads-and-Mileposts-Geocoding

I have a table with crashes by interstate route, direction, and mileposts for a state. I also have a shapefile that has just the individual mile markers for the state's interstates. I was wondering if there is any way I can geocode these crashes based on these fields. Any help is greatly appreciated!
