I have the same issue....ESRI has been working on a fix for over a day. I may try what you did. Were there any unexpected consequences? Amazingly the reason for the error is deleted living atlas content. Who knew

It doesn't directly apply but that is what professional services attributed my issues to. If you would like to help I would love to have it.

The webgisdr team is aware of the bug and are working on it. BUG-000121969 The files getting left over are the unzipped backups. I am not sure why they aren't getting deleted automatically.

As of 10.7 it still sticks. Does no good to script because you have to babysit the process. Also for some reason it stores all of the backups in the C:/arcgisportal/temp folder. If you are trying to do a nightly back up and restore it really fills up fast.

This is an upgrade from 10.7 so not even a major release. Permissions should be set. Anyway just frustrated. Means for a verrrrry long day for me. I am even doing a silent install through Chef Server. The process from Chef timed out twice already.

Right...It is ridiculous. Come on ESRI build some efficiency into your installers. I have 14 servers in my Enterprise environment. It is a monumental task when Portal installs and seems like just sits there for hours....HOURS. The processors are barely being used. Then when you think you are close the ConfiguationUtilityCL.exe just churns away at I don't know what.

Now that only works if you have used web app builder developer or have downloaded your application. I have not figured out a way to paste code in for ArcGIS Enterprise hosted applications.

When portal came out I was very excited because for years had to deal with the Arcgis Server security where you could assign permissions to folders or services. Unfortunately this only applied to users. If you were a publisher or admin all security went out the window. Here is my suggestion: Now that we have Federated Arcgis Servers that use Portal security I think the servers security model should actually mimic portal security instead of the following: “If a custom role is created with any administrative privileges, ArcGIS Server will grant members within that role full administrative access. This includes rights to publish any service type directly to ArcGIS Server and the ability to view and access all services. Consider the security risks before creating a custom role for any member that includes administrative privileges.” This limits the assignment of any Admin rights, even minor ones, in our environment where there is sensitive data. Those added checkboxes in custom roles just sit there and taunt me.

Jacob, I already have talked with the folks at ESRI. I had asked my account rep if he knew of any other large Portal deployments and he recommended I post here. This is the currently planned architecture. We already have a Testing environment up and running. Have ran into issues with the Azure AD bug not recognizing groups. Been told that will be fixed in 10.7. I am fairly confident in the configurations and architecture but I would love to talk shop with someone at the same level and size.

I am looking for fellow GIS system architects who may be dabbling or even deploying a large highly available portal solution. I currently am in testing with a Chef deployed 7 server environment. I would share my challenges and solutions if you would. ESRI recommended that I ask in this forum for other large early adopters. We currently have 2500 level 1 users and 50 level 2.
