Read only mode would be so much better in my opinion if Feature Service edits could be submitted.
I am not talking about Hosted feature services but Feature services with it's source data in an Enterprise Geodatabase. That way no items within the ArcGIS Enterprise environment would be changed while allowing end user work to be done. At minimum have a option to allow within the read only mode toggle.
Please consider this change.
