Thank you for your reply and support. The problem also existed in ArcCatalog. Another user on the same computer did not have the problem. Registering the system toolbox through ArcCatalog's Search Options worked. Thank you very much for the fix. Brian

Hi, I'm running 10.2.2 on Windows 7 and the search for tools is no longer working. It worked last week. The search results are 0 (zero) for tools while I do get results for data. The attached shows the results for Append but I get the same result no matter what tool I'm looking for. Deleting the normal.mxt did not help. Any suggestions?

Now I'm on a different computer at work with a different graphics card and the same issue with the Character Markers not showing up is happening. I deleted the normal.mxt and that did not solve it. The solution for me on this NVIDIA QUADRO 4000 was to install the latest device driver (version 341.05

There must surely be a way to change the URL to a ArcGIS Online Content item that is a Document Link. If you go to My Content, I have several items that are of Type-- Document Link. We changed the virtual location of some of these and I can not find a way to change the URL. My only solution is to remove the item and add back with the new URL which includes redoing the summary, tags and the icon. When I go to edit the content item, I see the ArcGIS Web API Rest Connection URL but I don't see anyway to change it. Please let me know if you do know how to change it? Thanks Brian

Hi, I setup a time animation with the legend. The legend doesn't honor the Time Slider Option/Time Window Option. There are three options: 1) Display data for the entire time window, 2) Exclude data at the start of the time window, and 3) Exclude data at the end of the time window. Neither of these are used by the Legend. For example, when a month is the specified time window and there is a row of data that has a July 1, 2013 date, the legend will include it in the June 1, 2013 to July 1, 2013 window and the July 1, 2013 to August 1, 2013 window. One workaround is to setup a dummy date that is the mid-month. Or if using weekly data to set up a dummy mid week date. However, I'm using a time the Option where there is a start and end time because the animated weeks are from Wed to Thurs. So how could I set up a dummy mid week and start the week on a Wed? Is there something I can change or any workarounds? Thanks Brian

I found the problem. ArcScan cleanup tools will only work with 8-bit tiff files. So when you complete your georectification, be sure to change the No Data option by either turning it off or specifying a value at 255 or below. For example, values range from 0-255 in an 8-bit raster. If a nodata value is introduced, the bit depth must increased to 16-bit to store the nodata value, which would be the 257th value. The pixel depth, or bit depth, determines the range of values that a particular raster file can store, which is based on the formula 2^n where n is the pixel depth. For example, an 8-bit raster can have 256 unique values, which range from 0 to 255...(http://support.esri.com/en/knowledgebase/techarticles/detail/28470) Another option I explored was converting the 16-bit georectified raster to 8-bit raster by using the copy raster command which provides the ability to convert to a different pixel depth. I tried this and when I specified 8-bit output, I got 16-bits. Am I stupid or is this a bug!!!! Thanks Brian

I'm still trying to solve this problem. What I learned today though is troubling. I used photoshop to open the PDF, adjusted the image to black and white and saved it as a tif as a single band. When I bring the TIF into ArcGIS and symbolize it as two classes, all the ArcScan tools edit the image properly. If I take the TIF and export it to another TIF, the new TIF has the same problem as noted in my previous message. This is disturbing because after I georectify the image using ArcGIS and create a new georectified image, it cannot be "cleaned" with all the ArcScan tools. So, what is happening that ArcGIS is rendering a TIF it cannot function properly with???

I'm using 10.1 and I'm having the same problem. I started out with a pdf which I saved as a tiff. I georeferenced the 3 band tiff and rectified it to a TIFF I added one of the 3 bands to ArcMap and exported it so I only have one band to edit. The magic erase tool was working but seemed to stop and the eraser tool never worked on this tif. It erases but it pops back. Any body found what the problem is? Thanks Brian

Enterprise geodatabases, which run in many different flavors of RDBMS software, require an ArcGIS for Server Enterprise license. Desktop (formerly known as "Personal") and Workgroup multiuser geodatabases (which only run in SQL-Server Express, and are subject to restrictions in user count, storage, RAM, and CPU cores) are available at different licensing levels. The Multiuser Geodatabase page breaks down the options. - V Thank you. I found that the ArcGIS desktop menu included the ArcSDE install and the ability to take an existing SQL Server Express database and convert it to a geodatabase. Brian.

Brian, there is no "personal ArcSDE", there is just the ArcSDE DLL's that incorporate all the functionality to allow a Direct Connect connection on your local personal PC to a (remote) enterprise geodatabase, but that isn't a product called "personal ArcSDE". Additionally, if you want to create an enterprise geodatabase (so no file geodatabase), you will need an ArcGIS for Server commercial licence, as ArcSDE / ArcGIS for Server is a sale / non-free product of ESRI, and using an enterprise geodatabase requires this licence, even if you only start using it for testing purposes. That is why you are being asked for an authorization code. You may be able to get a temporary trial licence for free for testing purposes, IDK, but as soon as you start deploying it, you will surely need a true paid licence. For that, there are two possible licencing levels: "ArcGIS for Server Enterprise" and "ArcGIS for Server Workgroup", see this page: http://www.esri.com/software/arcgis/arcgisserver/features/enterprise-workgroup Hi Marco, Thank you for your reply. I must have used the wrong terminology. The install for ArcGIS Desktop includes an option to enable geodatabase storage on SQL Server Express. Isn't this not an enterprise geodatabase?

HI All, Please help me understand this for the personal ArcSDE. For the previous item... No, you do not need to install an ArcSDE 10.1 application server to get full geodatabase functionality, including multi user/versioning/history. So can I still use a personal ArcSDE with Desktop without ArcGIS Server, say on a laptop? If so, do I need to through through the same procedure for creating or enabling a enterprise geodatabase? If, so how. The create geodatabase requires an authorization code for ArcGIS Server. Thanks Brian Kaplan

Hi, I have this popup that uses a data driven hyperlink. The code is below. WHen I select the hyperlink in the popup I get the message as shown in the attached. If I refresh the browser, the error goes away. I enter the URL outside of the Flexviewer, I don't get this issue. Here's one of the links http://www.inciweb.org/incident/2863/. Any idea why this is happening? Can I send a browers refresh in the hyperlink?
