@ClaireThurlowNZ With ArcGIS Dashboards Beta, lists have added an Arcade capability that will allow you to do this (see this blog to get you started).

@TiffanySelvidge1 ArcGIS Dashboards has evolved quite a bit since this idea was submitted. We have adopted a card-style browsing experience that behaves the way you describe above, and is inline with how many of the other apps in the ArcGIS platform do.

@JulieScott-Ashe4 Saving pre-canned queries is not really in line with our plans, and this idea has failed to gain a lot of support in the community. One workaround you could consider is creating feature layer views, and then setting a view definition. These can then be leveraged in as many dashboards as you'd like.

This is something we could consider as part of a future release. In the meantime, please note that dashboard elements have (optional) title and description areas that can be used to provide info/help). If more in depth explanations are needed, these areas support HTML, and an <a> tag can be included to link to a separate document.

@JulieScott-Ashe4 The product has evolved quite a bit since this post was submitted. The indicator element has replaced what used to be called the summary widget and includes the ability to configure reference values and display one or more of a pre-defined set calculations between the summary and reference values (incl. percentage).

@PhuNguyen Since this post was submitted, ArcGIS Dashboards has come a long way. As @AnninaHirschi_Wyss1 suggests, what you're looking for can be done with a serial chart.

@ChrisPolley Popups in ArcGIS Dashboards have greatly improved since this post was created. If configured to do so (in the Map Viewer), popups in dashboards will show attachments and links. Clicking the attachment or link will open in new tab.

@Reynaldde_Castro Changing the map's selection color is available via dashboard general settings. @Nicole_Ueberschär We'd have to treat controlling width as a separate (albeit related) idea. If you'd like to pursue this as something for people to weigh in on and for us to consider, could you please create a new post?

@LaurenLee The ability to filter a dashboard's elements in response to a map extent change is included in ArcGIS Dashboards as part of the actions framework. If your intention is to share such a dashboard with the public, kindly note the best practices regarding this functionality.

@Anonymous User The gauge element in ArcGIS Dashboards supports the setting of more than one threshold. Being able to calculate those thresholds via a calculated statistic is a separate/different idea that has been submitted by others. I will try to merge your ideas with theirs so that everything can be tracked in one place.

@RogerBannister I believe the scenarios you have outlined are possible via ArcGIS Dashboards actions. @ChristalHigdon_USFS Might you have able to provide us with a mockup of your data model that shows the relationships you need to navigate in your data (photo of hand drawn model would be fine). Currently, dashboards will only show attachments in a map's popup or via a Details element.
