Bob, Thanks for the links. I added the WMS connection per the instructions in the first link and it worked right away.using 10.2.2 (on home machine) I wanted to make sure it worked for me. I'll see if I can install a 10.3.1 on another machine and try again. (been meaning to upgrade to test things out anyway).

Robert, do you know if the WMS services are public, and can you share the connection information so others can try to connect?

Hi Attai, you might want to Moving Content you question to a move appropriate space like Analysis or even New to GIS (currently in user conference) and maybe give it a title like "need help calculating areas". These to things will really speed up the responses you get. It would help to know if your data is a raster or polygon layer, and the spatial reference (for example, if it is directly from esri ArcGIS Online services it will be WMA . There are other users that will be much faster than me in answering this question, once they see it.

Paul, for what it's worth, I was able to get my hosted data from your first link (had to re-sign into AGOL), The second link just brought up text.. If your accounts are different for GeoNet and AGOL (and the dev login), IE has issues when trying to switch between the two....depending on the order you log in. If already logging into GeoNet, it sometimes tries to use that automatically when switching to AGOL or Dev, which can give an error. I use Firefox which handles my two logins a bit bette and was able to get into both.r. I don't use Chrome enough to know the normal behavior. By he way, this is what I saw, after logging in, and then trying your second link...

Max, make sure to mark one of the responses as answering the question so this discussion can be closed and others may find it. ....Dan's was the first in so... Edit: btw, although you say basic, but I have long time users that forget this (had one the other day in fact).

Is the extension turned on? In desktop, under the Customize Toolbar, Select Extensions and make sure it us checked. ArcMap and ArcCatalog act independently, so you will need to check it in which ever software you are using at the time. Since all the extensions come with home use, if it was me, I would just check them all on.

Frank, I just want to mention that the links Tim Witt is pointing you to are for the "developers" version of the Web App Builder (WAB), not the ArcGIS Online (AGOL) version. I only point that out because of the location you posted the question (ArcGIS online). WIth that said, what Tim mentioned is correct, no ArcGIS Server is required. An account on ArcGIS Online, or a local Portal (basically the local equivalent to AGOL, which does come with some versions of ArcGIS Server) is required to register the WAB. You can then pull everything you want, service wise, from AGOL. This may be a little different from downloading what you've customized using a template on AGOL and then downloaded, so keep that in mind (If that is what you where specifically asking about). The WAB-dev developers' community is very active, however, so check out Web AppBuilder Developer Edition – Customization Resource List specifically to see a list of the many custom widgets users have already created. also, just fyi, updates and new features (from esri) typically are released first to AGOL, a bit later to the WAB-dev, then to Portal. So what you see as a widget on AGOL today, might not be available quite yet with out-of-the-box WAB-dev..

The beta site WILL be the place that scripts and addins can be posted, and in my opinion, I think that will be good. But I can also see the GeoNet forums as being a place to anounce, discuss and add a link to the ArcScripts 2.0 (beta) place for the scripts. This is similar to how some have created posts for custom widgets and have links to github. Doesn't hunt to announce scripts and let others know they are there.

If you want to create a set of your own basemaps and if you have access the the source data, you can create tiled/cached services with ArcGIS Server. Users can use these as background in their maps, although not technically as basemaps. If you want so that everyone that uses these as basemaps, in AGOL, or Portal possibly in your case, you can create a group for your base maps and choose that to be the default basemaps gallery. (I was trying to show a snapshot of the AGOL admin page, but my iPad isn't cooperating this morning) if creating web pages, for example using Portal or a custom JavaScript app using Web AppBuilder for ArcGIS and custom widgets Web AppBuilder Developer Edition – Customization Resource List you can use your custom basemap (the cached services) by using the Enhanced Basemap Gallery Beta 1.1 As far as your specific programs QlikView and Klikmaps, I'm not familiar with those at all, so can't be of much help.

Gareth, I'll be working on converting my customized 7.x ArcPad app to 10.x this year. I still use shape files in the 7.x version and will probably want to convert to using FGDB....maybe?? Unfortunately I have another commitment Weds pm. Will you be available during the day, or should I make an actual tech support appointment (no specific questions yet).
