Hi Brian, I don't know the reason why this path was chosen as the default path, but there's not presently an option to customize it, the way you can reset the default project path. I understand that it's a planned enhancement but don't have a time frame. Martin Minkowski might be able to add some context.

Esri Training also has in-depth, free web course called Getting Started with ArcGIS Pro (similar name but different tutorial).

Hi Nicholas, You need a license for the Spatial Analyst extension to complete this tutorial. If you are using ArcGIS Trial software, you will have a license for this extension (and others). In general, ArcGIS Pro product and extension licenses are assigned and managed through your ArcGIS Online organization. Contact your administrator to assign you a license, if one is available. If you aren't using an ArcGIS trial and if your organization doesn't have Spatial Analyst licenses, it will be a difficulty. See the ArcGIS Pro quick-start tutorials for a series of introductory ArcGIS Pro tutorials that don't require extension licenses. Tim

Just to throw another resource into the mix, have a look at the ArcGIS Desktop page on Applied Analysis. Maybe not so much a starting place as a where to go next place--useful if the various starting materials begin to overlap and get repetitive. (And free, by the way.) Some of the applied analysis cases are more complex than others. Most have workflows for multiple applications (ArcGIS Pro, ArcMap, and ArcGIS Online)--but not all, so you have to check to be sure there's an ArcGIS Pro workflow.

Hi Pedro, They are customizations of ArcGIS Pro with special scripts and data. You also need the Spatial Analyst and 3D Analyst extension products. See Calculate solar radiation and Shadow Impact Analysis for more information.

As Dan suggests, the right tools and approach to take depends on the information you need to gather (what kind of parcel data?) and how it's stored in your data tables. Some common tools for problems like this are Select by Attributes, Select by Location, Buffer, and Summarize Within. If you have a few hours to spare for ramping up, there are some tutorials that will help you understand how these tools work together in spatial analysis. The tutorials won't be specific to your problem but they should help you get a sense of the right approach. In the ArcGIS Pro quick-start tutorials, try Explore your data and Use geoprocessing tools. In the Analytics case studies, try Proximity to schools and Mixed-use development. Note that the Analytics case studies typically have solutions for ArcGIS Online, ArcMap, and ArcGIS Pro. You want the ArcGIS Pro workflow, I think. Also, the Analytics case studies are less scripted than the Pro quick-start tutorials, so I would suggest trying the Pro tutorials first. Another good site is Learn ArcGIS. They have several scripted case-study tutorials--some for Pro, some for ArcMap, some for other ArcGIS apps. If you go to their Gallery page and filter by category = spatial analysis and product = ArcGIS Pro, you may find some useful stuff.

If your map has a projection applied that excludes New Zealand, the Locate Provider won't zoom to the location because it can't. The tutorial you mention takes for granted that you're in a World Mercator projection but you may not be. For instance, your ArcGIS Online organization may be configured to open maps in a local projection (like UTM Zone 11N) where New Zealand lies outside the projection limits. In that case, you will still see the locate provider settings enabled (as in Thomas's image) and you will get search results (as in Dan's image) but nothing will happen when you press Enter. Just another possibility. It would be nice to figure it out, but in the meantime, a workaround is suggested in a note in the tutorial: pan the map to New Zealand. Of course, if the map projection is the problem, you won't be able to do that either until you change the coordinate system (right-click the map in the Contents pane, click Properties, and click the Coordinate Systems tab on the dialog box).

Thanks Dan -- of course you're right. Run Excel to Table, then you can add the field. I'll still ask about the behavior when the tools are run directly on the Excel sheet. It may be that they aren't expected to work, but it seems like the user experience should be better.

Kathy, really sorry about these problems. I just tried adding a field to a standalone excel table with a Basic license in Pro 2.1 and have the same experience as you. I see what you originally described (command is grayed out and says you have unsaved edits). When I run the Add Field tool, it doesn't crash the software but the tool fails. I'll follow up with the development team tomorrow. Meanwhile, I encourage you to open a case with tech support. Tim

Kathy, this is an outside chance, but if you're trying to add a new field to a shapefile and if your Pro license is a Basic level license, there's a known issue. The workaround is to use the Add Field geoprocessing tool.

In Pro, you can share all the layers in the Contents pane as part of a single web layer, so the node > subnode structure makes sense. It seems kind of odd when there's only a single layer, though. Like why would you look for a layer underneath your layer? But there it is...

Hi Kathy, I think you're one node too high in your layer. Expand your New York_Census Tracts_2010 layer--which is really a group layer name--and you should see a layer below it, like in this picture. If you right-click the sublayer, you should be able to open the attribute table.

You probably don't want a field in the table for each parking value. You just need one field. Call it TYPE, for example. Then your different parking values go into that field. So your table would look more like this picture.

I think you're close. Try the following steps while you are in an edit session: In the Create Features window, right-click each entry and click Delete. Now your feature template will be gone. You'll see the message "There are no templates to show" in the Create Features window. In the Table of Contents, where you have the symbology you want, right-click the Parking Spots layer. On the context menu, point to Edit Features and click Organize Feature Templates. In the Organize Feature Templates dialog box, click New Template at the top. In the Create New Templates Wizard, the Parking Spots layer should appear with a check mark. Click Next. On the next panel of the wizard, you should see your layer symbols (the ones you want). Click Finish. Close the Organize Feature Templates dialog box. Now in the Create Features window, I think the correct symbols will appear. You should be able to choose them and start adding points. There may be a problem with the <all other values> symbol because I don't think that entry can be part of a feature template. In your layer symbology, you may have to define a categorical value called Other so that it can be added to the feature template. But the rest should be okay, I think. Give it a try.
