I searched for your string and then opened the map that it found... Hi Mike, not sure exactly what method you're describing. The guys I asked to try it were going to arcgis.com & typing keyword "los angeles river" to get a list of search results. 1) From Search Results page: a) clicking the thumbnail graphic opens the map NOT in presentation mode b) clicking the Open link opens the map NOT in presentation mode c) clicking the More Options dropdown arrow gives Open Presentation as the first choice 2) From Item Details page: a) clicking the thumbnail graphic opens the map NOT in presentation mode b) clicking the Open button gives Open Presentation as the first choice. Could be I don't understand the intended behavior, but it seems like this is a lot of ways for the map not to open in presentation mode! re your question: this morning, from around 9 a.m. I have edited the map details like checking the box on and off.

In the Map Details, I've checked the Behavior box to "start in presentation mode when opened by others" (see attached graphic) but it seems not to be working. I've had a couple of people test it and the map opens for them in the ordinary Mapping mode. Am I doing something wrong? The map is public and is called Los Angeles River Park Suitability 2 if anyone else wants to try it. Thanks, Tim

Thanks - I just tried it again & now it's working fine for me, too. The map service wasn't updated as far as I know, but something positivo happened.

Hi Mike, here's the URL to the description of the sublayer in question: http://ugis.esri.com/ArcGIS/rest/services/UnderstandingGIS/MapServer/1 it's a feature layer, not a raster. It looks like query is a supported operation on the layer. Tim

I have a map service with three sublayers. Pop-ups can be configured for two of the three sublayers, but not for the other one and I don't understand why. See attached image.

Sometimes I have polygon features in a map service that are too small to show up well at a lot of online map scales. As a workaround, I've added map notes to surround these polys and draw attention to them. Now, in Explorer Online at least, you can also make a feature service from them and symbolize them with thick outlines, which is kind of okay. But I would like an option that lets you render polygons with point or line symbols.

When you configure a pop-up window for a map service using the "Description from one field" choice, the name of the field is suppressed. All you see is the value. It would be better to see the field name (or alias) in front of it. The value needs some context to be meaningful. Am I not seeing how to do this? It shouldn't be necessary to use the "Custom attribute display" choice to achieve this simple objective.

Hi, when I do a query the result features are highlighted in blue, but one of them -- whichever one is pointed at in the query box -- is highlighted in red. See attachment. Is there some way to give all the features equal status (all blue)? My issue is I want to take a screen capture of the map showing query results but I don't want to draw attention to one particular feature. Can't figure out how to do this. Another problem, same context, is that if you close the query window you lose the query. I want to close or minimize the query window to get it out of the way so I can make a screen capture of a fairly zoomed in view of a large geographic area (the US) with the query results showing but not the query window. If I add a layer (map service) to a map, then show the map contents, then click the layer and open its description, the description opens in the same browser tab as the map (Firefox 4). It should open in a new tab or window because you can't go back to where you were. When you click the Go Back button in the browser, you lose any changes you had made to the map, such as having zoomed in to a location. And there's no warning -- nothing that says "save the map before you look at the description." (Which you shouldn't have to do in my opinion.) Thanks, Tim

thanks you guys & please see again my post on this from 5/6 -- if you have not got rid of the "run in full screen mode" dialog & click NO on the prompt rather than YES the presentation will not start at all. so the problem really has two aspects. I haven't tested what happens if you click NO on the prompt & then remember that answer -- but that needs to be tested.

When the presentation starts in FireFox 4, the screen seems to go pitch black. yes, that seems to be the result if you click Yes on the Silverlight prompt to stay in full-screen mode. If you click No on the prompt, the presentation doesn't seem to launch at all.

I installed Firefox 4 a couple of days ago. It seems like presentations don't run in it. When I click the Start Presentation button, nothing happens. I can click through the slides on the bottom, but not play presentations.
