Is there another way to detect the ActiveView for the map without using IHookHelper? IHookHelper is available for ArcEngine so you can use it with Arc Desktop development if you have ArcEngine SDK installed and the ESRI.ArcGIS.Controls dll is available. This was my case with 9.3 but now that I've migrated to ArcGIS 10 I only have Arc Desktop SDK available. Thanks

I have a geoprocessing task that has an optional parameter of type FeatureSet. Only problem is if I leave that featureset parameter out or set it to null, the task fails with an error "Error Submitting Job". If I Instantiate the featureset parameter but leave the geometry inside it to null I get "Invalid value for parameter '<i>Geom</i>'. This parameter is set as optional and I verified that at the rest endpoint for the geoprocessing service. Any ideas on how to pass (or not pass) an optional featureset parameter? thanks

I recently incorporated the identify widget into my 2.1 viewer app. This question may be best directed towards Robert S. but if anyone else has hit this and had luck resolving it please let me know. When I open the widget and activate the identify tool, I click on the map and the results are shown and the tool is now inactive. I can repeat this by clicking on the point button to activate the tool but if I dont click on the map and close the widget, the next time I open the widget and activate the tool, it stays as a persistent tool meaning I no longer have to activate it. I click the map, get results, click the map again and get more results and so on. kind of weird behavior and I would be fine with it either way but I need it to be consistent. Any ideas?

Is it possible to update layerdefinitions at runtime? Im inclined to say no and I would have to run a query task in conjunction with a graphics layer to show the features I want filtered. For what I need to do, it would be nice to just update the layerdefinition for the layer directly but i'm not sure. Thanks, Gary

Gary, Hope this answers some things for you. Robert, Thanks for the info. I know it can get annoying when people ask for too much help or info so I appreciate the info. Im fairly new to Flex and what you've done with the report is pretty cool. Thanks, Gary

The code gallery contains a lot of sample web app configurations but I dont see much if any actual developer contributed "code" samples. Im new to the arcgis for flex 2.x stuff but the 1.3 code gallery had a large amount of "code" to work off of. Is this release just that new that there isnt much available yet? Is there someplace else to go to for developer contributed code samples? Im mainly looking to work within the flexviewer architecture and things like a streetview widget would be nice to have. thanks, Gary

Robert, This report interests me as well. I've done flex apps (with your help) using the 1.3 API and not within the scope of the sample flexviewer. Now i'm using the 2.1 API and trying to rebuild some stuff within the scope of their new flexviewer app. A few aspects that interest me are how you popup a box for the report, from the button on the widget. Previously I would've defined a canvas within the main mxml file but now thats all very rigid and just defining the mapmanager, uimanager, etc... Also, the formatting of the report is pretty sweet, is that strictly mxml code? Or is that some type of internal, non-flex frame content? And lastly, the speed is pretty fast retrieving the data, could you embellish a little on the asp.NET web service? Is it a geoprocessing task or some other type of spatial database query? Thanks, Gary

would like to try the streetview widget out. Any idea where I can get it? The code gallery seems very slim. I'm new to the flex 2.x stuff as of today and i've never worked within the sample viewer before so it seems difficult to get started with custom stuff.

ok, chalk it up to me not understanding how the identify is supposed to work. apparently "visble" doesnt mean currently visible but originally visible. I switched it to "All" and it identifies on all currently visible layers...
