Arcpy.mp allows you to open project and layer files.  The GUI allow you to save maps and layouts and layer files.  We need to be able to open map and layer files in arcpy.mp to modify the update connection properties and other properties before loading the in the project.  Having all the possible maps and layouts a users would want to use in a project is not practical if it numbers in the dozens and only a few are used at the time.  This way you can build a library of mapx and pagx files to use in your projects. ... Ok so I am doing something wrong here.  I am trying to change the version of a layer using the python command line. I don't want to use change version from the versioning toolbar because that does all of the layer in all for the maps. Is there a way I can use change version and apply to only one map?  When I do change version from the versioning ribbon tab, it applies to all layers in all maps, not just the currently visible map (except other map's datasource is not updated until you switch the list by in the TOC.) ... So this is the problem I have.  I have analysts cranking out analyses through heads up digitizing on top of satellite imagery.  Analysts will place a piece of text on the map to highlight something unusual that warrants attention to the end users of the product.  Once the analysis is done, it gets cranked through a process to generate several charts with the same extent and data but with different symbology.  Analysts don't interact with the layout at all, it is automated, they might review the final product but that is it.  Currently analysts place the text element in a featureclass annotation in ArcMap, so the text shows up on all the maps in the same place.  With ArcGIS pro, I am looking at keeping a similar workflow where analysts interact with a mapx in an aprx and use arcpy.mp with a different aprx to crank out the pdfs.  Problem is I can only add text to a layout.  I don't want analysts to interact with the layout since they could mess it up.  I want analysts to create data only, text on the map is considered "free form data" and needs to be stored in the database for archival purposes. Annotation gives the flexibility of placing the text on map in and among the features so even if you change the extent or scale of the final product, the text will stay in the same place and the same size relative to the features. ... If I leave ArcGIS Pro open over night, my oracle geodatabase connection time out and are broken the next day.  I don't get an error (arcmap gives you the cannot draw popup.)  The layers don't appear broken but the data is inaccessible.  Trying to change the source doesn't work, the database connection does not open.  Closing pro and reopening was the only fix. ...
